  1. I gotta find another player and then it will be a lot better and more fun.

I think I heard that Activision Anthology, or one of the newly released classic archive type games has a prototype of a Combat that has computer AI, so that those of us who have no friends ((sniff)) can be entertained while sitting alone. I wonder if it would be possible to extract the binary from the GBA ROM (or whatever system it is for) and get it on VCS cartridge. I would LOVE to play Combat again.

    ummmmmmm, k

  2. Here's a silly idea:

3 young kids rummaging through an attick come across a VCS. Unsure of what it is, they poke it around and come up with different ideas for what it might be.

    1 says,"maybe it's a toaster... except for english muffins."

2 says,"naw, there's too many switches! It's probably the factory mp3 player from your Dad's Mustang!"

He pokes it with a stick, accidentally knocking it to the floor. The cartridge from the top comes loose (revealed is the title : Missile Command).

3 says, "Oh my God! Don't touch it! Do you want to be responsible for a world war?!

1 says, "He's right, this is boring anyways... let's go play the X-BOX"

(Some sort of ending caption here at the end.)

The conversation wouldn't have to go like that - but I think it would be funny to see clueless kids poking around an Atari. Perhaps instead of going to "play the X-Box", they go to play "Enter the Matrix"... the irony being that it has the Atari brand on the game.

    Okay, maybe I'm just weird.

  3. Side note: HOM lets you flip the code so that things are right side up.

I must have an old version, I don't see that option.

If the original sprite is 10 lines tall...you need to make sure that any alterations occur on ONLY those lines.

This is true for many sprites, but sometimes you can edit outside the size of the original and get by. Before you do though, I suggest you back up where you left off and write a new ROM to experiment with the sprite boundaries. Sometimes there is quite a lot of extra room, and sometimes you get one pixel off and you screw the game up. I did with the HangOn hack - one pixel, and the bike was pulled involuntarily to the left of the screen and off the road. Too weird.

  4. I can understand why someone would consider forking over quite a bit of dough on a prototype - especially if it is of a game that was never released, or if they have quite a bit of interest in the different stages of development in the game. 1000 bucks still seems a bit steep, but not nearly as outrageous as paying 1000 smackers for a Quadrun. (Time for some Atari blasphemy) I don't even care for Quadrun.

... runs away to hide, giggling all the way.

  5. A few questions on the latest version of Thrust...

    1) @Albert: Are there any boxed copies left for this? I really want to upgrade to the latest version (the music is awesome!), but if there are no boxes left I'll probably keep my current copy and store both cartridges in there.

    2) What other upgrades (besides music) does the newer version have? (This will help me to decide what priority this game is for ordering in the future. Right now I play an mp3 of the Thrust music while I play.)

    3) Does the latest version of Thrust also support the DC controller? Now that I've been playing it every night with the pedals and DC controller, I can't imagine going back to using a stick. (This game is great to play during long conversations with the family - when I'm barely listening to what they have to say... and need a diversion.)

    Buhbye.

  6. I thought of an old slogan that was used in Recycle ads. Mix it with a custom animation/morph and you have:

The recycle logo shapeshifts into the Atari logo.

Audio is, "Recycle, Resell, Reuse - because Atari matters"

I thought it was a neat idea - but uh... what do I know? Awww! I think I mismatched my socks again this morning - DAMMIT! :x

  7. Wow! I don't think ANY game is worth that much, unless it comes in a pristine condition cabinet with working controls. LOL! I've got college to pay for!!! I'm already pushing it when I go on a binge - buying 2 or 3 games at 8-10 bucks!

But that's only my opinion. Guess I'm not so much a hardcore collector as I am a hardcore gamer. :-)

    kthx

  8. You can see screenshots of all my hacks on my website.

You know... I've been to your page half a dozen times, and never noticed that the menu branches down when you click on a hack title. I'm looking at them now. The Ants games look intriguing! :-) I'd never played Thunderground before, but I gave it a shot because I saw your hack - what a great game. Now I'm not sure if I want the original, or the hack! :-)

    Kbye

  9. I didn't know that this was available to order...? What about the other hacks listed on your page? If the ROMs aren't available, I'd sure be interested in seeing some screenshots of these.

Oh, BTW... I'm not sure if you are interested, but Stan is putting together a list of hacks for an Atariage update... you should get on the list. :-)

    kthx
