If you turn it on with no cart in and the power light blinks then your answer would be no.
Just looked at the website answer is no. It is just a 72 pin connector so if that is all you replaced then no. You have to disable the chip. It is pin 4 of the lockout chip that needs to be clipped and tied to ground(a lot of people just clip them though). If it wasn't in any instructions to do that and all you did was put the connector on then no you didn't disable the lockout.
Question: I assume it does, but does this also work on a PAL NES?By hyperrobin on June 14th, 2016Answer: Yes, this repair part is also an adapter in the sense that once you install it, your Original Nintendo becomes "Region Free". So yes, it will work fine on your PAL Original NES System.Click on "Question?" 4th answer down. Also from their Kickstarter page....*** STRETCH GOALS ***
We know these additions are a little late to the party but we wanted to make sure our homework and due-diligence was done. Our first priority was making sure that anything that comes promised with the stretch goals can be delivered in tandem with the original project. Delaying the delivery date of the Blinking Light Win because of problems on delivering the stretch goals is unacceptable in our book. There aren't many but we felt these goals contributed most to getting people back into 8-bit goodness. And now for the knitty-gritty.
- $30,000 : We're already almost there so lets power through it. This stretch goal adds functionality to the Blinking Light Win itself. We will be integrating a multi-region lockout chip to every Blinking Light Win so that systems will now be effectively region-free as well as make unlicensed titles playable on all systems. NTSC games will now work on PAL systems and vice-versa. And now PAL users are now free to play games from any region in Europe. This however, does not fix any 50/60hz speed issues when playing games from other territories. What this does is allow the games to boot by bypassing the region lockouts.
- $40,00 : This stretch goal puts into production a newly designed famicom to NES adapter. This new adapter will compatible with BLW-enabled systems as well as top loading NES systems. Tall case Famicom games like those made by Koei will not be an issue any more. Production would start at the same time as the Blinking Light Win so they will be available when the first shipment goes out. The design of the adapter is still under development so feel free to make suggestions in the comments. We'll be making progress updates in the comments section so keep your eyes peeled for new developments.

Not a commercial, not a paid ad, just a happy as can be customer. None of my NES carts were working. Took unit appart, cleaned the contacts with all kinds of cleaners suggested on net. Nothing work. Saw BLW, ordered it, and in a few days it arrived. 10 minutes from start to finish, very easy to install. Basically turns your classic NES into a NES top loader. Yes, it is still a front load, but push cart in, it makes contact, and that is it. No more pushing it down like in the past. I thought my NES was toast, as NOTHING would read. Now everything works fine. Allegedly disables lockout chip, but I can not verify this yet. I will have an EverCart, and will report back on results at a later time. Is it more expensive than a replacement NES tray? Yes? By much? No/ Who knoes, maybe next time you need to replace the NES tray again, there will not be any more available on the market. BLW fixes the problem for good. Highly recommended.

Off-topic: I wonder if a reproduction of the World Championship cart is possible? (I'm leaning towards no, due to its unique board and all, but someone out there might know more about it than I do. But methinks no one's going to open theirs up and find out.)
The rom has been dumped. I have it, so I do not see a problem why it should not work. Works fine under Nestopia. I do not have my EverDrive N8 yet, but I do not see why it would not work on there either.

I have a storage locker with about 15-16 of these FILLED to capacity with floppy disks that I MIGHT be getting rid of soon. 3 of the 3 1/2" disks fit PERFECTLY side-by-side in there, and if memory serves it is a little over 100 in each column, making each crate hold 300 or so.
As far as 5 1/4 goes, you guessed it.....2 side-by-side fir perfectly. I have no idea front to back how many it is.
When I get the time I will go through and sort them out and be selling the floppies. Obviously Anything of value will be sold separately. The rest will be sold as blank disks, but will either be Truly blank and never used, Amiga, ST PC, C64 or Atari 8-bit, as I had each mentioned system back in the day. Keep an eye out for the post. This is our busy time of the year at work, so it will not be tomorrow, but hopeful some time during the summer.

That is funny. I was just going to suggest Paul Westphal over at EightBitFix.com. He beat me to it.

OK kids I'm back...but not really. It's been YEEAAARRS since I've made my overlays and I'm honestly flattered that I had some sort of legacy with this community. If anybody wants to know my method, let me know. It's honestly not that difficult...it just takes some time and patience. Obviously if I was able to plug them out as rapidly as I did, you can do it too.
I am interested. I am looking to make them for myself as I have the Sean Kelly cart.

I am seeing $5 for the console and $70 shipping!!!

I actually got pretty good at the game by playing the Visual PinMame version. There are a couple of versions out there, and some are not that great, but one (I forget which) is done really well. The video part is emulated of course, so it is a great way to practice without spending a fortune.

Does anyone have recommendations for brands and sizes of SD cards to use?
I am using a 16GB, ONLY because that is the smallest size I had readily available. You have to remember, we are talking 8K, 16K up to 128K in size. You could fit the entire library on a 1GB card anbd still have all kinds of room to spare.

No cracked version back in the day? muah ha ha ha.... I bet you paid for long distance calls too he he he he.... ah well.... Thanks for the chuckles.....
OMG.... No.... I was a huge phreak. That is a whole other story for another time. LMAO.... The memories.

But if you go the U1MB route, there are other benefits: first, it's super easy to install - two ribbon cables that plug into existing sockets in XL machines (some later models and the XE machines might require desoldering chips), plus four easy wire jumpers to solder to via points on the board. Second, the U1MB lets you select from four different OS roms for your particular needs, 4 versions of BASIC (or any other 8K rom you might want to use), and optionally 4 XEGS game roms if you use an XEGS OS and set a jumper on the U1MB board.
Which jumper is it?? Also, what is the procedure to get it to boot the XEGS game? Real hardware is to unplug the keyboard. I am sure that is not the case with the U1MB.

BTW... Very nice job on the 3D printed cases MacRorie, These things are AWESOME!!! A must for any serious Atari 8-bit user!!

SD Image is however you want to do it. No right or wrong way, although directories are recommended. Do yourself a favor and convert all your ROM files to CAR files. Not necessary for all (directions are included with cart, but I did all mine to keep it uniform. I created the following directory on my SD Card....
AtariMax (any 1mb and 8mb AtariMax cart images)
Demos (Atari in store demo and others)
Diagnostic (testing software)
DOS (Sparta, Insta Dos and other cart base DOSes)
Education (Self explanatory)
Games (No idea what is in here
)Misc (anything else that does not go in any other folder)
Programming (Basic, Mac65, Pilot, Logo etc....)
Utilities (AtariWriter, Micro Filer etc...)
XEX (any XEX images like Pac-Man arcade and so many others)
Nothing really to set up. Just create your SD card, put it in the cart, put the cart in the Atari, and turn it on. Very simple.

OK... Setup is 800XL with Ultimate 1MB, SIO2PC and as of today, Ultimate Cart. I put all my programming carts (Basic, Basic XL, Basic XE, Mac/65) etc... onto the cart. When I boot, I get the cart menu, and select the language I want. How do I boot a DOS using internal SpartaDos from U1m so I have disk access before the cart kicks in?

Got it today!! Thank you!!! This thing is SWEET!!!!

I remember the game well..... There was no cracked version back in the day, you needed a ha[[y drive to be able to copy it. Sector 20 was not readable, and a happy was the only thing that would touched it. I walked 1 1/2 miles EACH way in a severe blizzard, and freezing cold temps to get this game from a friend who had a happy drive. That is how bad I wanted it. The crazy things we do when we are kids.

This is what my Ultimate 1MB looks like..... (Pic 2) I assume it is written for PAL, and I am NTSC, thus the reason for the crop at top and bottom. Is there a way to switch to NTSC? Also, Pic 1 is my virtual 1MB running in Altira. How do I get that menu on my REAL U1MB instead of the one in Pic 1???

Ah the memories. When I was a kid, I was not exactly a computer science major with a masters degree. I got Leader Board from a copy party when it first came out. Called one of the local warez BBS'es to find out how to get it to work. Said you needed a key in joystick port 2. Thinking it was strange, but said what the hell, I got a house key, put it in port 2, and started my 800. Saw a small spark, and the game did not load. Tried a few more times without success. How I did not destroy my 800 is beyond me, but it still worked, and still works TO THIS DAY!! Anyhow, I called the board back and dug deeper, and found out that the 'key' was a sacrificed joystick cable with the brown, white and orange (or was it black, white and orange??) wires stripped and twisted together. It has been a long time, do not remember. What an idiot I was. LOL
