Protector: RESURGENCE coming to the Atari Jaguar!
ovalbugmann replied to Songbird's topic in Atari Jaguar
Warning: wall of text ahead! lol! Just got my Resurgence CGE disc, unfortunately my disc is all scratched to hell and back right around the inner part of the disc where the data is, lol, - haven't tried loading it up yet tho..... One of the four tabs holding the disc in place broke off and has allowed the disc to rub the whole time during shipping. Will post pictures later. I was also disappointed that at this late date, with everything we know about CD-R technology that manufacturers are still using sticker labels on CD-R discs - a nono for anyone that wants archival(long lasting) standards used on their discs. The thin polished aluminum film, that is vital in the proper reflection of the laser during reading is located directly under the label(not in the center of the disc like on DVDs) and over time the glue will dry up trashing this thin reflective layer making the disc unstable and and eventually unreadable, certainly not meant to last. I guess the people waiting for the general release are right in doing so as that disc will likely have a painted on label, not to mention being glass mastered. I'm glad I was able to control my ocd Jaguar hoarderism, lol, and not order two discs like I usually do with a lot of releases, for my rather large, ever growing Jaguar collection. I also feel less stingy in not ordering two discs so that other Jag fans could have the opportunity to order a CGE disc. But you know I think I may be just over thinking the label thing it might be alright in the long haul, idk really. Now regardless of all my pissing, moaning, bitching -I am very glad to have this CGE disc!(sincerely) and I plan to try to rip it to an image and reburn it on a Gold Archival Grade Taiyo Yuden CD-R and that will prolly load up on the Jaguar nicely I believe as long as there are no errors in creating the image. I'm just a little bit of a perfectionist, and all the problems/frustrations of using the Jaguar CD do indeed get to me sometimes - the self proclaimed Jaguar CD player fanatic, with all the JagCD cinepak movie encoding I've done over the years, but haven't been able to share with others due to copyrights of the video content and hearing people bitch about copyrights. Not that anyone really wants to watch a hollywood movie on the JagCD player - they want to play games and rightly so. Finally, I'd like to thank Carl for this awesome looking Jaguar CD release , I'm very glad to have it regardless , and whatever he chooses to do(or doesn't choose to do) regarding fixing the heavy scratches on the CGE disc is fine with me - who could have anticipated the manufacturer using troublesome cases to put a damper on all Carl's much appreciate work on this exciting release. I also look forward to purchasing the general release of Prot:SE Resurgence!! Cheers, oval -
Which do you want links for? the XRGB-Mini Framemiester, or the parts to my Scart to component to LCD TV setup? I'll assume the XRGB-Mini. Yeah the xrgb-mini is being used by a lot of retro gamers in many retro communities for Nintendo, Dreamcast, Sega and others - it looks like a good unit but very premium priced. Check the Solaris Japan link here. It has no input lag/latency or artifacting, fills in scanlines, tons of controls, etc. and you can select scanlines or not. I'm considering it because its hard to find one unit that can do all the things it does. For instance; I bought a $50 scart to component(or HDMI) upscaler for my Jag to use instead of the scart to component(Ambery, no upscale)converter I now use and it cut off the bottom of the picture - I couldn't get it to show the whole picture with just tv controls, there's no controls on this cheap upscaler I tried, so I know it can be tough to find a scaler that will work with retro game systems. This one seems like the answer. The 38,000+ Yen price translates into about $338 USD or halve that for GBP. Be aware of the Scart21 or Japanese only scart won't work so that's why I included the correct scart adaptor in this link list. If I used this item I'd want the RGB connection for it but that requires a rgb to mini-din cable to hook up to the xrgb I think, but that could all be figured out after you get it imported or if you buy on Amazon. So I'm not sure if the higher priced Xrgb with the included DT-mini cable? would be of any use to someone who wants to use the RGB connection for Jag on it, if someone has any comments on that included cable that would be great! Anyways, here's a bunch of links from my research on this item, has reviews in there too: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/228401-those-who-use-xrgb-mini-where-did-you/ http://atariage.com/forums/topic/228038-jag-and-xrgb-mini-awesome/ http://www.telegames.co.uk/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=324_69_70&product_id=8534 http://solarisjapan.com/products/xrgb-mini-framemeister-compact-up-scaler-unit# http://www.amazon.com/DP3913515-Framemeister-Micomsoft-Upscaler-Import/dp/B006H39XJS http://junkerhq.net/xrgb/index.php/XRGB-mini_FRAMEMEISTER http://www.ebay.com/itm/XRGB-Mini-Framemeister-English-Remote-Translation-Overlay-/231052088477 http://retrogaming.hazard-city.de/framemeister.html http://www.retrogamingcables.com/micomsoft-framemeister-xrgb-mini-adapter--euroscart-with-sync-stripper.html http://www.videogameperfection.com/2012/06/28/xrgb-mini-framemeister-a-pal-torture-test/ http://www.gamesx.com/wiki/doku.php?id=av:micomsoft_xrgb-mini_framemeister http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ja&u=http://www.micomsoft.co.jp/xrgb-mini.htm&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dxrgb%2Bmini%2Bframemeister%26start%3D10%26sa%3DN%26rlz%3D1C1PRFC_enUS564US564%26es_sm%3D122%26biw%3D1536%26bih%3D760 http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?44220-FRAMEMEISTER%26%2365288%3B%26%2312501%3B%26%2312524%3B%26%2312540%3B%26%2312512%3B%26%2312510%3B%26%2312452%3B%26%2312473%3B%26%2312479%3B%26%2312540%3B%26%2365289%3BXRGBmini-BRAND-NEW!!-Price-Down-!! http://ebayelectronicsblog.com/the-xrgb-mini-framemeister-the-way-to-play-retro-games-on-modern-tvs/ http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2215895 http://www.avsforum.com/forum/37-video-processors/1380684-xrgb-mini-framemeister-review-up.html http://dcemulation.org/?title=Dreamcast_480p_XRGB-mini_Framemeister_Cable And here's the items from my current setup: http://www.ambery.com/scrgtocovico.html http://www.ebay.com/itm/Professional-Scart-cable-switch-box-Quality-1-4-way-/281323736752?pt=US_Video_Cables_Adapters&hash=item4180338eb0 http://www.ebay.com/itm/SCART-VIDEO-CONTROL-UNIT-3-WAY-SWITCH-BOX-EXTENSION-TV-SKY-DVD-VCR-HiFi-PS2-XBOX-/360444191045?pt=UK_Computing_Sound_Vision_Video_Cables_Adapters&hash=item53ec25e145

Protector: RESURGENCE coming to the Atari Jaguar!
ovalbugmann replied to Songbird's topic in Atari Jaguar
Great! I was able to order a CGE edition of The Protector: Resurgence CD. I had subscribed to this thread, had smartphone email updates and PC access, calculated Carls' posted release time for it on his site and at the right time, in my open browser refreshed the songbird url a few times and then,.... success! I saw it! and clicked the plus sign and speeded through paypal, all the while, hoping it wasn't the last one and that someone wasn't simultaneously clicking through the payment process faster than me. lol! -
Elansar & Yopaz IceStar, 2 new games available for Jaguar CD !
ovalbugmann replied to Orion_'s topic in Atari Jaguar
I received both my Yopaz replacement disks recently in the mail, thanks to Orion_ & FABombjoy for taking care of the fixed discs for me. -
Bitching ahead... skip it if you don't want to waste your time...lol ...start rant.... Well, I decided to take the NUON N501 plunge and bid recently on prolly the NUON system you are talking about there skippy, http://www.ebay.com/itm/251606862220?_trksid=p2059210.m2748.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT And if this is the one your talking about, kick yourself no more bro, be glad your forgot about it as I got fucked over by,... it looks like USPS,.. but the stoopid seller didn't even get a damn tracking number for me and it's now "lost" in the mail or this ebay seller "asher 2099/ Memoryofchristy" guy decided to keep it and never mailed it out or shoddily put on the label - maybe it fell off IDK. It's been a few weeks since he said he mailed it out and nothing yet. He already refunded me tho. What sucks is I bought all the games for it I could find (doubles on T3K) as well as two extra new controllers and all the NUON enhanced dvds and a extra N501 remote I found on ebay too lol. Now I got a bunch of Nuon shit I can't use. Now he said he has a Samsung N2000 unit also that he was going to list yesterday and give me a heads up on so I can jump on it, but he never did although the N2000 is generally less desirable: Because it has less VLM2 light show effects(Jeff Minter-programmer), it's non-firmware updateable- to be able to make it do more, doesn't like music cd-rs, and won't play burned homebrew games, etc. according to Nuon-dome. But the N2000 has twice the VLM2 resolution as the N501 but only 100 effects compared to the N501's 150+ effects. So, unfortunately this N501 is """""lost"""" in the mail, why does all the rare - good stuff get lost or prolly stolen in the mail? I needed an original pre-1961 Volkswagen Beetle front hood to go on my 1956 Oval Window VW beetle restoration car I have and I found a beautiful rust/dent free one on the east coast - was too big for UPS or USPS so only alternatives I had was BNSF freight (trains) or Greyhound freight and the seller wanted to use Greyhound so I went with that and he took it down to the Greyhound place near him sent me pictures of it all wrapped up and ready to go in the lobby he sent me a copy of the shipping papers and wuddya know.... - Greyhound lost that as well it cost me like $400+ dollars or something and I had to fight with greyhound for months to get my money back on that one. What does shit just drop off the USPS trucks or Greyhound Buses lol - no it fucking gets stolen lol, and scavenged up by dick resellers. So I ended up having to go with a rusted out dented up correct year hood for my car it's going to need a lot of bondo/welding to get it functional. .....end rant..... :/

Whew! I thought you were serious for just a half a second, or pulling gorf type move, lol! But then I was like, no wait,.. he's a lot smarter than to keep valuable, unbackedup files on a hot laptop hdd. Good one bro! Will be looking forward to this game, Its come a long way since I did a bit of playing on the alpha, waay back when.

Which games would you have pictured on the Jaguar and why?
ovalbugmann replied to Gamer888's topic in Atari Jaguar
I would have liked to see Super Sprint on the Jaguar using a rotary controller, as I had a lot of fun with the four player Super Sprint II arcade game in the 1980's. I think or it looks like the Jaguar could handle it too -everythings on one screen. Driving around with friends, hitting drive thru, going to concerts, cruising back then, scoring weed with my group of friends, smoking and then stopping by the arcade to play this game is a fond memory for me. I need to get a MAME setup. Contra, Virtua Fighter, would have been nice too -
Wow!, that system has some good games on it, including Afterburner I & II.(1989) Which I remember from the arcades. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Sharp_X68000_games
-
Waaaaaaay too damn complete! -spent a small fortune on it, and should have surely put the money elsewhere prolly, lolz.
-
I read this whole thread. Rebooteroids looks great!-and it sounds like it's gonna be a nice release guys. But a lot of work to get to 200 levels. Glad it will have hyperspace too.

Can you save over or erase current data on Iron Soldier?
ovalbugmann replied to Bass Enthusiast's topic in Atari Jaguar
I think several games, to reset the eeprom, require you to on the title or options screen to press "option" + * + # at the same time for a few seconds. -
Yeah, seeing as Pro-controllers are better to use on the Jag, and are so expensive and rare I can understand you wanting to repair it. Have you thought about comparing or using one out of a common regular Jagpad? Or calling Bradley at Best Electronics or Bruce at My Atari to see what they have laying around that might work or fix it? Haven't opened up any Jag controllers in a long time so forgot what the part looks like, you should take a pic and post it here for people to get ideas with too maybe, and also there's a couple of guys making rotarys that are around here - and one guy selling Jag rotarys on ebay right now that posts on nuon-dome forums and on youtube(Nicolas Persijn), their in Jag controllers all the time you could ask them too.

Manufacturing a New Run of Pro-Controllers
ovalbugmann replied to Rick Dangerous's topic in Atari Jaguar
Yes, that was the shop! - They had a good stock of them at one time. However I just checked now direct4games.com and direct4games.co.uk & .net and the website is gone - prolly has been for years. -
Yeah, I don't like The Laird either, he pisses me off everytime I see him around the web. I have done some jagcds, but only for free for the jag community. He is into ripping off other people's work and then trying to sell it on ebay for money such is laird. Like for instance the jeff minter demos in his ebay description(from other post in this thread: http://www.ebay.com/itm/310935003742) he mentions glenn bruner released the source code for jeffs demos but they were memory mapped to the proto jags which is different than our released jags. Then he makes it sound like he is the one who very easily converted the binary to run on everyone's released jaguars, in saying, "Fortunately it wasn't too hard to figure out the necessary changes to source", which Matthias did, not him but didn't even mention Matthias and also taking credit for Matthias's work in putting them on cd once the binaries were running from source, as well. What a jerk. Jeffs Demos are freely available for anyone in CD version in case they can't deal with binaries over at Matthias's site at: mdgames(dot)de Below is the Public Domain Mandlebrot demo too, that he was selling which is freely available on the net by searching and can be put on cd with reboots Jiffi tool, at their site. The latest thing, is that Laird is acting like he is the public relations director with other people's work that's not even finished yet! lol. Talking about the latest work of rush6432(Jeff) & Jag_Slave -the Stormworks Interactive guys, who did the BlackOut! cart game here then left after being "disgracefully hounded out of AA" he says on http://www.3do.cdinteractive.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=3392. So now they are over at: http://www.retrovideogamer.co.uk/index.php -doing the conversion of putting the shareware or freeware version of Doom style "Heretic" on the Jaguar and laird is playtesting it and being all strict in saying: "The Jaguar version will be sold "not for profit" at cost price only, to meet the terms of this agreement. It will only be made in limited numbers and only sold to trusted/regular users of RVG forum." "You can't see the whole forum anyway until you have 50 posts. As for trusted, that would just be down to the Stormworks guys who they trust. There are an awful lot of bad eggs in the Jaguar community unfortunately." and he says the same thing on the Heretic youtube video here: youtube.com/watch?v=kwHHSXWfQdQ "It won't be going on general sale, it will only be available to trusted members of Retro Video Gamer forum." lol. Well anyways he says the stormworks guys will be making the decision as to who gets a copy of Jag Heretic and who doesn't but to me it's a limited release for the select few and I wouldn't be surprised if laird has input recommendations as to if a copy should be sold to which individuals. He just sux, man. Here are some more videos of Rush6432's work on Heretic Jaguar version: He says: "There will be a limited, official, release of the game over at: http://retrovideogamer.co.uk/" http://www.retrovideogamer.co.uk/index.php?topic=2426.0 But don't expect to be able to see the thread unless you have 50 or more posts there. Hi, anybody know how I can post youtube videos as clickable links in my posts(because I want to reference a comment in a video) and have it NOT show up as an embedded video? in the post. I have seen people put the youtube video link as http://youtu.be.com with the dot between the u & b but it doesn't work that way for me tho. Any ideas?
-
Looks good! I always wanted an intellivision and cuttlecart3. I may buy this and then look for and get an original Intellivision unit, which is the preferred inty system I want. Really great work here, the LTO Flash sounds like it will be easy to use. Got my eye on this one and now I can start looking for Inty systems.

Manufacturing a New Run of Pro-Controllers
ovalbugmann replied to Rick Dangerous's topic in Atari Jaguar
Nice prototype pro-controller, I like the black dpad but the red dpad looks cool too. There used to be a seller in the UK/France a few years or more ago, that had a decent stock of new boxed procontrollers - I did buy a few, but I cant remember the name of the company, they were prolly $50-$75 usd with the shipping included. If anyone can remember the name or knows about it that would be good, as I would likely recognize the name, otherwise I'll have to comb thru past receipts to try and find the purchase. But their maybe all sold out of 'em now anyways. -
Elansar & Yopaz IceStar, 2 new games available for Jaguar CD !
ovalbugmann replied to Orion_'s topic in Atari Jaguar
Not that I know what's going on with the Elansar cd intro, but yes video will black out/freeze if the bitrate is too high. Dont have any idea if thats whats happening here tho. I haven't done any cinepak cds in years and forgot the details of the proceedure,(was thinking of doing some more for jagfans lol) but I do remember the max aspect ratio & bitrate and it is: 320x240 @ 352.8kbps but I used to keep it to about 320x200 and 310-330kbps. I'd like to start making some videos again, keep them on the new megaupload site for everybody, lol, jagmod updated his converter last year too. I could also re-release the three cinepaks that I did for the now defunct, jaguarsector site too. -
Coolness! I just received my Another World waiting list confirmation from Sebrmv himself , this morning, that's great to know, and since I have and usually carry around both a Samsung Galaxy S3 and S5 fully rooted SuperUser Smartphones (with slimbean (fast) android roms on them) that I am chained to anyways nowadays so I can much more easily check and recheck my email anytime of the day or night and pounce like a South American Amazonian Jaguar on the release of the second run of AW and grip it in my jaws with the most powerful bite of all the big felines in the world. hehe!
-
My collection so far, not very big but I'm happy so far.
ovalbugmann replied to Stephen g's topic in Atari Jaguar
Great start to your collection there. The white Jaguar looks cool, it'd still be cool with a dark gray Jagcd on top - two tone!. lol I do like the white Jagcd combo tho -that's a really good paint job looks like. -
Hey great! -Sounds cool maybe something will come of one of the Bomberman's mentioned, would be a great Jaguar playing/party game and not a shelfie.

Battlesphere. Tell me why it's "so great", or what I "should be doing".
ovalbugmann replied to Austin's topic in Atari Jaguar
I need to play this game some more, it's pretty tough and challenging and I don't think I've gotten my moneys worth out of it yet, at what was it...$600+ usd. lol That's a grip of cash that just sits around most of the time, and in 100 years it may not be worth anything as bit rot and metal ion diffusion is supposed to take place in IC chips after that time, but they really don't know because there aren't any ICs that old. Anyways, they'll prolly play videogames in their minds by year 2100 with the help of alien technology lol, if everything isn't blown up by then. Battlesphere carts will be like a some funky unusable 1880's mechanical machine relic by then.
