  1. Cool! now you can keep your JaguarCD running indefinitely, as long as the board doesn't burn out, you can just replace the only parts that move, the CD pickup (CDM12.1 transport), since everyone knows moving parts wear out. Kinda nice huh! I've done it too.
  2. Hmmm............How would it benefit us Jag fans more if it had less than the current rating? I hope to see more FMV JaguarCD's of all kinds in the future. So, that in between actual gaming sessions we can relax and watch some different FMV's. It's the 64-Bit Interactive Multimedia System remember, I know as Gorf said it's not actual gaming but turning my JagCD into a VCR would be cool - although I will admit it would be a waste of the unit in strictest gaming terms. Still,..it would be neat to have a little FMV library. JagMod's new update to his Cinepak Quicktime video converter (vers. - 1.5) holds possibilities for me, as Matthias has broke down the Cinepak FMV creation process for me in the thread.
  3. Here's a cool site: The Atari Historical Society: Atari Museum
  4. If you want the most details of the Atari Jaguar thru the years, I would go with AEO/JEO back issues, all things Jaguar are discussed, here: AEO/JEO Archive The Jaguar Faq has a lot of info too: Jaguar FAQ A real good site with timeline information for the Jaguar and especially plenty BattleSphere Timeline events I highly recommend Addies Atari Page - check out all the features on the Jaguar page - here: Addie's Atari page
  5. Hey LS for in game night missions which are available on any level you must press UP, A, B, C, & 7 all simultaneously. And if its dark out already then it will get darker, vision will be reduced it seems (draw distance) and all stars will disappear and flares will be added to your alternate weapons systems (option). You can check for stars and if you have flares added to the option button then press 1, 2 or 3 to test the flares. It will stay in the sky & will light up the whole area. All the rest of the codes are entered at the mission select screen. Let me know if it works for you.
  6. No problem, I have several Gigabytes of all kinds of Jaguar files on my computer that I've saved over the last couple of years Googling different things about the Jaguar I wanted more info on. I pretty much remember if I've saved details on something Jaggy interesting and where to find it on my computer, I remember saving the Jagcovers info, because T-Bird reviewed them. With so many Jaguar files, sometimes I can't find shit and just go back to googling something I can't find that I think I saved. I'm going to move everything to CD-Rs for safety, you never know about HDDs.
  7. I wonder if Walter J-64 bit has heard from him he started the "jagcode" thread here on AA which is halfway down the first page of the Jag section. I will contribute to whatever you do, Do The Math, as I would like to see more Jaguar CD games, Matthais may help us make an encrypted CD image of the winners' BJL or whatever game file as well as putting the other entrants on the disk too! If you decide to go with the coding contest format. There are a lot of people in the community that can help us over obstacles to get this done, make your concerns known as you run into them, someone here may have helpful ideas.
  8. Nice Score! Buddies! I would of been happy with just the unmarked prototype Toilet cover. The one Lee Krueger's wife made is embroidered- very cool!!
  9. Yes, Thunderbird has one and he did a review on it, click the link I've put in here and scroll 3/4 of the way down on the right side of the page and click full review to read it. Original Jaguar Dust Cover Here's a few pics: Jaguar Toilet Seat Cover: Base Unit Only Covers:
  10. He sure did!!!!! Jeff Minter is an excellent coder, and graphical designer and you should see the lightsynths he's doing now!!!! You'll think you took shrooms!!!! He did the VLM 2 for certain Samsung and Toshiba DVD players that was a media processor chip called NUON, he designed it so you could not see any of the pixilation apparent in the Jags' VLM 1. It looks excellent! He also did a VLM 3 which was never released for the Gamecube. Now he will finally realize his 20 year dream of getting a light synthisizer to millions of people with the release of his newest lightsynth, the XBOX 360 's NEON! - a lightsynth which is in it's firmware. He says; I don't have a XBOX 360 but he says of it; it puts the VLM 1; and Please take a look for yourself on his website: NEON! Jeff Minters Best!!!!! And be sure to look at the teaser trailer for the NEON and the awsome NEON still shots
  11. Wow! That is sweet! She should go into production of them, I want one.
  12. It only has the BJL files, Satoteur never put up CD images Matthias created, and hasn't been on JSII in a month. The links to the CD images are in the Jagcode threads here on AA, they are located on Tursi's site & Belboz's site, because Saboteur never "refreshed Jagcode.com with the CD images over the weekend " as he stated he would last month. Update: Saboteur just stopped by JSII today, he is planning another Jagcode 500! & said he refreshed his site with the CD images!
  13. I'd be willing to donate to something like that too! I don't think Saboteur over at JSII (he sponsored the first Jagcode.com contest) has much time to do anything Jag related lately, since he never put up the CD images of the winners. So you would have to set up a new contest. The entries were for BJL and not everybody has BJL, so to get the games to more people, the developers were asked if their demos could be put on a bootable CD, and Matthias here on AA was kind enough to make the JagCD images for all to download the free demos.
  14. It's a great game I know, as I love Defender and Stargate, Protector as well is very enjoyable and playable. I only mention it last because he was asking about Robert Demming's mods and if they're necessary and I wanted to let him know Prot SE's abilities so he can wait on doing physical mods when he grows out of just having a BJL loader, and desires a true BJL boot rom with it's added features.
  15. Welcome to AtariAge Torx! You will enjoy this site and it will become part of your everyday routine. Consider signing up at Jay Smith's site too! - jaysmith2000.ipbhost.com Now Protector SE is a great cartridge to have and has several cool features; it's a bypass cart for unencrypted CD games, it can load BJL Jaguar files from your computer by holding 4 or 8 upon powerup, and has a great Defender style shooter on it as well. You should get to know the Jaguar, what it can do, and all the standard possibilities before modding your Jag as Robert Demming described, since BJL and Bypass options no longer require physical modifications. So it really isn't necessary right now since your just getting started. There may be advantages to an internal BJL mod, some say it's a little easier to upload and the readout screen is nice. Having different developer bios '93 & '94 stubs enable you to bypass encryption for use with an Alpine Dev kit, or using stubs with a JaguarCD w/dev bios will let you load unencrypted CD's too. I'm not sure about what to do with Jag OS though? Later on when you've really become a Jag fanatic you can do Robert's cool mod but the Protector SE cart will let you do quite a bit. Since the Jaguar's encryption keys have been found, less and less CD games are sold unencrypted. I recommend Matthias Domin's site - mdgames.de for really! interesting mod reading and ataritimes.com has lots of cool info. Hope you enjoy playing videogames on your new Jaguar and JaguarCD!
  16. Hey Greg!, Just wanted to let you know, your website; The Atari Times, is really top notch! I totally enjoy reading your articles you have on there, they're very interesting and of high quality literary composition - they draw you into the articles. Of course, I'm interested in the subject matter and that helps. I've ordered the 2-disc Atari CD set from you in the past and will order the yearly compediums in the future. I enjoyed many of the articles I've read so far such as : "What is a dead system" & "How to clean your Atari" among others. There are several quality Atari websites out there and each has something cool to read on them, however, I consider AtariTimes & AtariAge very high quality fan sites so keep up the good work Greg & Albert
  17. Those last two "LOL", Buddies' used were in response to my talking about Shawn Sr.'s comment of how cool it would be having 16 Jag koisks & BSG's in a room set up for network play, I think that justifies the use of "LOL", Clay. Now I can understand why you don't think that's something to laugh out loud about considering you are unimpressed with the game and have grown up and out of enjoying BS, and your falling out with Doug & Scott, and how much better you said Freespace 2 is as a space game. You can't compare a powerful PC game to the Jag's BS. Calling someone retarded for using LOL?, WTF? Were you ever taught manners; If you don't have something nice to say don't say anything at all.
  18. True that! So many women & game systems so little time for them all. That's probably why I haven't purchased any other classic systems yet because I don't want to take gametime away from the Jag, since I want to finish some Jag games I have been playing sporadically for years. And Gorf: you have made several comments in this thread on the inner workings of the Jaguar with some detailed information about what's involved in programming it, I find this very interesting. Although software makes a system, I think Jaguar hardware facts and info are enjoyable to read. It's cool to know what's going on behind the scenes of the games I play on the Jag:) Thanks for the insights.
  19. Yes, both pictures look like they are the original vinyl Jaguar eyes/logo banner print with the additional "Atari" fuji logo in the upper left hand corner. I would say they are ligit and original. They are 2' by 4' vinyl banners that were part of Atari's in-store advertising promotional campaign for the Jaguar. They are rare, I have been wanting to buy one myself but haven't got around to it yet, I better get one before their gone and are tough to locate.
  20. Yeah! That's true! and since Sega is such a quality gaming company, I have been considering a Saturn or 32x, also because like was said before were all not 13 year olds any more and coming up with $50 for a older Sega system and games isn't too difficult. Both is better.
  21. Thanks for the download link, Starcat! It's great to have new stuff to run on my Jag.
  22. That does sound about right, for what Buddies, "Big Jaguar Plans" will be. That will be a sight to behold, like stepping into Jaguar Heaven. UBER - COOLNESS! You will have people from everywhere wanting to go there to be part of the network. The BS creators will probably want to check that out, themselves - first hand! No one else in the world has that kind of setup. Congratulations, BuddyBuddies on one hellva BS setup idea.
  23. LS650 said: Exactly! It's all good man, I mean look at the 2600 it has all kinds of different shapes of carts, Imagic, Mattel, Activision and other companies all have their own unique cart design for their games, there is even a double-ender! cart design I saw for the 2600. I saw the ForceDesign cart design for Madbodies and I think it's great, kind of like a mustaba (step pyramid) shape where the handle would be, and that vivid purple/fucsia colour looks cool! It will be a standout game in people's cart collection. Like Gorf says you just can't please everybody, damned if you do - damned if you don't, he says. I am certainly not going to complain about any new software for the Jaguar, hell if someone wants to sell a new Jag game to me without any cart shell at all, just PCB I would buy it! After all it's the software itself we are after, and it's good to be different. Imagine if the Jag had all the support the 2600 had thru the years, there would be all kinds of cart shapes and sizes (if Atari approved the shape/color or after the Jaguar became an open system to dev for) - as long as it fits in the slot, fuck it! , it will be read by the Jaguar. Just like BSG's clear shell stands out, I think Madbodies's shell design will make it stand out from the rest. I like the cart shell design and color and really hope it gets released! Also B&C sells regular Jag cart shells.
  24. This is from the JSII thread; "Alternative to Gorf for Charity., What do you think?" i will support any release that you do for us also what is the current status of Madbodies, wasnt it all most finished? thanks for your support in the jaguar community, buddybuddies from GORF:
  25. The 68k should boot the Jaguar and then be taken off the bus. The 2d games would be worlds better than they already are if the coders used the RISC's soley. It you think Rayman was nice, it would have been childs play if they only used the RISC's. Every time the 68k acesses the bus, it cuts the bus width 75%!!!! It then does what it does already sucking the very life and power from the GPU and DSP that are now in battle with the 68k to get a friggin cycle or two off the bus. If that is not bad enough, it does that at HALF the clock rate of the rest of the system. They musta been puffin some mad chronic! The best illustration of this is a 64 lane highway that a bunch of cops decide to shut off 48 of those lanes all of a sudden. You were doing a nice smooth 75 MPH. Now you are doing about 10 MPH stop and go. Now the cops open those lanes again. Good right? Well yeah but opening all of those 48 lanes back up dont bring the traffic speeds very quickly back up to that nice smooth 75 MPH. It is really no different in having a halfspeed 1/4 buswidth processor on that 64 bit Jag bus. Every time the 68k hits the bus its like someone cut 48 bit out of the system temporarily. Closing off the other 48 bit of the JAguar. Another RISC core soley for system control would have been deadly. Now you take away the 68k and now you only have the GPU and the DSP at full throttle performing as they were meant to. The Jag should have been the GPU, the DSP and 4 megs of RAM, 2 megs each processor on seperate busses and a small unified cache between them so they can talk to each other. You would have never seen the Sony PS1 (as long as Atari made the right tools that is.) Actually, the trouble with the above is the DSP, though fully able to do 32 bit accesses is crippled as it only is connected to the bus at 16 bits. Another major blunder of the chip design. The DSP's bus with is the same as the host processor. The 68k is to the RISC's as kryptonite is to Superman. Hmmm.... Enlightening view of the M68000, I didn't know it was such a detriment to the Jaguar systems or that it was a bus hog reducing the 64-lane highway to 1/4 of the original lanes everytime it accesses the bus. I didn't know it slows down the DSP & GPU either. Atari really made a mistake using it, they should have probably used the M68030 or something.
