WoW! Thanks Matthias, for all the information on making a Jaguar Cinepak CD , I now have someplace to start and halfway know what I must do for making a Jag cinepak CD run on my JaguarCD unit, much appreciated :!: I will now proceed to gather the necessary materials and begin to work towords making my own cinepak CD!! Once again! Cheers Matthias:-) you have shedded much light on the subject, I think I can do it.

Yes, Thanks Jagmod, for updating this enticing Jaguar Cinepak tool,... however unfortunately there's no instructions (why?) and I don't know enough about using this tool to make myself a Jaguar Cinepak CD, we've talked about this before in the JSII thread "Revitilizing the Jaguar CD" (mar '07) and I had a few questions about using it but you only answered one saying: the Quicktime .mov file must be a Cinepak encoded file on PC windows first to be converted to a Jaguar Cinepak file. I did have another question for you which maybe you could answer now: JagMod: With your Cinepak converter, when the Quicktime .mov file has been converted to the 3 files of .srg, .crg & .aif as you said it would, then how do you go about making it play on the JagCD, just use those files in place of the normal .raw data files during the normal process of making a Jag CD such as described by Matthias tutorial? Also, If there is any way you could put together a set of instructions for using your Jaguar Cinepak encoder, possibly write it up when you have time to put down some helpful thoughts on using it, so people like myself and Broonale can fullly enjoy the encoders' Great possibilities! Of course, you should take your time in making a set of detailed instuctions, when convenient for you to do so. Some questions I have are: How to first convert any video file to Quicktime w/ PC Cinepak encoding - in preperation for drag-n-dropping on your Jaguar Cinepak encoder? Any known tools to do this? What to do with srg, .crg & .aif? Can they be integrated into making a Jaguar CD as described on Matthias's Jaguar CD making tutorials? Maybe where to find; Quicktime w/ PC Cinepak encoded ready made files to try on your encoder? Are you familiar with TXG/MNX's Gone Nutty! - SCRAT: Ice Age/Doom3 Cinepak Video he made?, and is making a Jaguar Cinepak CD a complicated process or only somewhat difficult or relatively easy. Have you yourself made a Cinepak Jaguar CD using your drag-n-drop tool? If so, can you tell us what videos you have successfully ran on a Jaguar? How hard is this to do? Can a layman do it? What other tools are necessary? I understand you are probably very busy, like most people working for a living, so any information you could share, however trivial or simple regarding the use of the Jaguar Cinepak tool would be appreciated. Maybe you could at least refer me to someone who has successfully used your tool, so I could go bug them for info, perhaps - belboz, Gorf, Zerosquare, atarifan49, Orion_, Jay, TB, Omf, GT Turbo, TXG/MNX or others in the Jaguar community? Once Again, Thanks for your Jaguar Cinepak converter update.

Yes, it comes with and uses an overlay, mainly to save your game & use the map. It's Red and black, blood splattered.

Check out Wikipedia.org and type; "Atari Jaguar or Jaguar CD." There's a lot of info on Wiki.

Simple one: No cart inserted = no power up?
ovalbugmann replied to islandfishing's topic in Atari Jaguar
Yeah, interesting, They should of had the base unit just show the logo and spinning Jagcube and a question mark perhaps. They took care of that with the CD drive though, however, I'm sure many people, like islandfishing have mistakenly thought the base unit was kaputz- dead, when it really isn't. One seller on ebay, I've delt with thought their base unit was dead until I clarified the "gotta have a cart" to see anything info for him. It would be nice to find out why they chose to do this, maybe they couldn't fit the command in the boot rom bios or there was some kind of monetary cost involved making it show the logo without a cart. -
Gotta go with that. The Lynx is an outstanding machine with a really top notch library. Jag may be the most powerful Atari system, but it sure as hell ain't the best. Wrongo Remo! Might makes right, and the Jaguar is more powerful than all previous Atari game systems combined! (just kidding, your entitled to your own opinion, of course ) Yeah, the problem is software is a scarce commodity for the King of Central and South American Rainforests (Jaguar) And even though there have been a number of games released since the last official Atari game Fight For Life, we still need games for the system. It's all about software. If the Jaguar had a bigger library, people might very well think the Jag is the best Atari system. I've actually been thinking about getting a 7800 or a Sunnyvale Heavy Sixer and was checking 'em out on eBay, but I really enjoy my Jaguar & sometimes Dreamcast and don't really want to take game time away from the Jaguar, As there are several Jag games I am trying to complete without cheats right now. It is really just one's own preference as to which game system(s) they would like to play, a lot of people are into PS3 & 360 games as they are visually stunning and captivating. It's all up to the individual, but this is the AA Jaguar forum and it's not that other dreaded thread- Jaguar- Atari's worst system, we all know were the starter of that thread stands. Long Live the Atari Jaguar!
-
I'll agree with that, wholeheartedly.
-
I first had an Atari heavy sixer as my first 2600, and I wouldn't choose anything else. Nostolgia I guess.

True that! -
Simple one: No cart inserted = no power up?
ovalbugmann replied to islandfishing's topic in Atari Jaguar
Not true, the Jaguar will not power up, at all, without a cartridge inserted because there two power connectors in the cartridge slot that become a completed circuit only when a cart is plugged in. If you have a cart to insert and you then get a red screen upon power up the cart most likely is not fully seated correctly or the contacts may have some oxydation on them. Reinsert it a few times to clean it off. Very few Jag carts are defective. Sometimes cart edge connectors don't line up with the cart slot ideally, I have a Cybermorph cart that when inserted, if you even lightly move it back or forth - totally within it's play margins - it will reset the Jaguar. -
Thanks Guys , So basically a Stubulator allows you to boot a non-encrypted game on the Jaguar?
-
Hey, thanks for the information jaguar_fan, much appreciated. I'm a little unclear as to exactly what Stubulator Jaguar base units do, or are. As far as I know they just have a boot-rom that does not require encryption validation to run a program, and that's why you use it with your Alpine? Is this correct? If so, then Stubulator boot-roms just don't have the encryption requirements and that is the only difference between them and a regular production Jag boot-rom? Could you tell me the differences between Stub'93 & Stub'94? I've just heard that some apps will only run on a Stub'94 like certain Jag flash card upload programs. Any info you have or clarification will be welcome. thanks. Also, I was wondering if the Stubs - '93-'94 have a onscreen visual indicator of some sort, so you can visually tell if your on the Stub setting and the differences between the two versions?

Nope. There's lots of great shooters and Naomi arcade backports, still coming out today. Like Under Defeat, TriggerHeart Exelica, Karous, Radilgy (Radirgy?), and Last Hope which also saw release on the original NeoGeo hardware (AES). I keep my Atari Jaguar & Sega Dreamcast CDs in their original Jewel cases or in the case of JaguarCD, paper tri-fold cases with plastic CD holders. I always put 'em back in their case or leave them safely in the machine when done playing for the night. Only handle them by the edges, because I don't want errors when getting into a game. I keep all my game discs in a few drawers in my bedroom away from light in the cool AC.

Under Defeat, TriggerHeart Exelica, Karous, Radilgy (Radirgy?), and Last Hope - - These games are made by large companies and are in no way shape or form, homebrews. As mentioned they are on the Official Sega GD-ROM of which only Sega can put into production, sure the Dreamcast is no longer supported in retail stores, but can be found all over the Dreamcast scene here in cyberspace. Who knows how these late Official releases are marketed in Japan. I have a few of them and they say: copyright registered tradmarks of Sega, and in no way appear homebrewish but only totally professional. -

Agreed, The Dreamcast releases mentioned TriggerHeart Exelcia, Last Hope and the others are Official Dreamcast releases by Original 3rd party developers who Sega authorized to code for the Dreamcast and on the Official medium of GD-ROM CDs Just because Sega themselves isn't making software for DC anymore, doesn't mean the other companies who supported it, can't continue to do so at their financial descretion, and still be a big company with resources to make a quality Official game for the DC. I believe the most recent release was TriggerHeart Exelcia released only a month or two ago. However, it very well may be the last Official release on Sega GD-ROMs, because Sega is retireing this type of media, Which was designed by them. (Giga Disc - ROM) There is a petition on one of the Dreamcast sites for Sega to not retire the medium, so DC software companies can continue to use the GD-ROM with it's superior features over the CDR or audio/data format. Also, I've heard the GD-ROM uses the CDpickup in the DC more efficiently than CDRs, increasing CDpickup life. -
Robert Demming's five way boot rom modification! That one is the best - to have 'em all in one Jaguar. That's the one I want to do :!: Are all five Bios contained in one Boot-Rom or Two? (Stacked - like Matthias tutorial)

I have used belboz's mod-less BJL downloadable CD image to run some BJL programs on my Jaguar, however, I have heard that the actual console mod for Jaguar BJL offers more control, in BJL use such as specifying start/run address, detailed visual progress of uploads, 4 included demo games, and will still be able to boot regular cart/CD games if you hold down "B." Also, I've heard there is less trouble with uploads using a BJL chip modded Jaguar. Michael Hill (belboz here on AA) is a great guy - very helpful and knowledgeable and I'm sure he could use his chip/eeprom burner to burn whatever type of boot image you want on a Jaguar boot rom chip, If you ask him to and pay for to/from shipping and of course supply a blank chip of correct type. He probably has the BJL image that will be placed on the boot rom. However, it's not really necessary to trouble him for just a BJL boot rom since Rick Deftleson has them pre-burned and ready for sale on his website in a BJL kit mod kit or just the chip itself. Rick's website is here: More Than Games You'll need to order the BJL adaptor he has too, to hook up the Jag to a Windows 95 or 98 computer ME & XP have problems with BJL. The chip goes over the top of the existing boot rom, so you don't have to take out the old one. You'll need to make a BJL cable though, a shielded parallel printer cable - a DB25 male to a DB25 female will probably work. Not totally sure, but I believe Cobracon here on AA made the BJL program set up with the 4 demos on it, while BJL itself was initially made by Bastian Schick. Check out Mike's site too, maybe to give the BJL CD a try: Hill Software Matthais Domin has some BJL information on his site too and is full of cool Jaguar mods/programs: MD Games

When you say, "I tried it on 9 different CD add-ons" you are referring to the I-War cartridge? Is this correct? If so, I am going to have to check out my I-War with the JagCD and see if I have problems.

From Matthias: And check out the author's website: Tursi's website be sure to: Click on the Martian Attack download for more info. As you kill as many (earth) ships as possible the Earth will spin faster as it gets closer also. The Earth must be Destroyed!! Remove it! Die petty Earthlings!

WoW! man your collection is already a good one, since you have several unique items like some of the Speedster II & Skycopter - Kmart, Walmart, & Carousel editions of Mario Purdue's games. Now your going to have several Kiosks that's really going to rock! Are you going to make a Super Jaguar game room?
-
:!: Yeah, I do the same thing - play for extended time periods sometimes. It can be really fun to reach advanced play within a game. Takes away stresses of the real world without mind altering substances, I like to use my Jaguar as a reward for getting other things done.

Here's a picture of a Jaguar Koisk and you can see the whole unit, including the metal platform at the bottom you can stand on. Jay's koisk docs
