I have a B&C Bypass cart and have wondered how to use the save game chip in it with unencrypted game CDs that need to save some information, such as Jay's extremist packs (Blue lighting Beta - BattleMorph Beta) and other unencrypted games I have. I assume several unencrypted games have coded specific things that can be saved in them, but how do you do it if the CD itself needs a bypass cart to run? I would use a memory track if these games were encrypted. Does anyone know of any unencrypted games that can use B&Cs Bypass Cart? Carl? Frog?
B&C includes no instructions on how to use the 93C86 save game chip.

Whoa Dude, your the best man!
I was going to ask you to write a manual for Arena Football, but I didn't know if you had the game. I'm really glad you made some instructions for this game because I've found it very frustrating because of the switching camera movements and it's always going to a kickoff or conversion kick it seems like. I actually thought my cartridge ROM was damaged or that it was a self running demo only. Thanks a lot for this manual, else, much appreciated.

Very interesting information Gunstar, thanks.

but how about when they were selling millions and ruled the market? it's sad what the company couldn't maintain at their peak.I believe the company that was ruling the market with the 2600 is not the same Atari as the Tramiel Atari who ran it into the ground. Atari owner/managment changed hands after the the 2600 era and the great video game crash around the early '80s.
The worst system is definitely the Jag CD. Nearly every second unit doesn't work anymore, including mine *grr*The JaguarCD is the best part of the Jaguar, if of course it is working correctly. Atari themselves were dissatisfied with the projected life expectency of the JaguarCD unit itself and it's lower than expected quality. Although it was made by compact disc pioneers Phillips.

The Jag is a very powerful, very impressive system. Anyone that thinks it was Atari worst console is only fooling themselves. It might have been the last but it sure wasn't the worst. All of the Atari consoles are great. There is no loser when you got Atari in the mix.

I owned a 2600VCS waaaaay back in the day, (late 70's - early 80's). And I have many great memories of me and my friends playing it, and checking out the new games at the store. It was the centerpiece of entertainment except for "R" rated movies with violence & topless girls
, however the 2600 always left me wanting more, when playing the games you have to picture the details in your mind, I kept saying the next releases are going to have great graphics, and kept looking for them to get better, none of the arcade ports on the 2600 were as good as the arcade version, (i.e. pacman, defender, asteroids) and most all the games are so BLOCKY. Now, I must admit the games are still a lot of fun, but I just desired better graphics. Sure, the Jaguar has better graphics, but some games are hard to get into gameplaywise. So, this really is a question that is relative to your opinion and definition of worst system. I just want more than BLOCKY BLOCKS
dude and 2k-4k games man! More than one color per scanline. But, on the other hand I had such fun with the 2600 as a kid that I want to get a "Heavy Sixer" again because it holds so many memories and nostalgia for me.So, Atari Jaguar = Undeniably has the Best Graphics of all Atari systems, but so so gameplay on several titles.
Atari 2600 VCS = Worst Graphics (sorry but it is true), but has Great Gameplay on many titles.
Now, the most important aspect of any videogame system is: "The games" and are they fun to play??? Correct? Not the system.
This a stupid thread to post in the Jaguar section dude, because your opinion is not my opinion. I find Jaguar games seem to be quite challenging to pick up and master, but that gives me more satisfaction when I do beat the game. Most 2600 games are simplistic and easy to play(some), and very enjoyable. I don't tell other people what games or systems they should like.
The Jaguar in my opinion is awesome! I have a soft spot for the 2600 too, so much so that I want another "heavy sixer", and then who knows what system I would play more. There is just no answering which is a better system because it's all relative. You know what they say: "Opinions are like assholes everyone's got one."

I dont tell people what games they should and should not like

Nice work! a RGB connection for the Jaguar is very nice. Do you know of any devices that can make my computer monitor use the needed 15Khz Hsync so I can use the RGB output on my ICD catbox?

You would think that B&C would put together some type of booklet or at least a paper with the controls listed!
No, there isn´t anything included with the cart.
Yeah, nothing included with the cart, but thanks!
to else's BHH manual & the controls he listed at the top of this thread we have some much needed documentation for this game.
-
B&C is a Top Notch seller, I think these are originals, or to specification reproductions. I should pick some up for all my loose carts I have.
-
Yeah, that would be cool to have a Jaguar Multicart of all the cartridge games. (See ataritimes.com)
But it wouldn't work on a CD because like LS650 said, cart games use different memory address space than CD's run from and would require significant re-writing of the headers and probably some of the code itself. This would have to be done for each cart game, requiring, most likely, the source code for each cart game. There would have to be work done on every game, permission from all authors, source codes secured, menu systems created, custom tools, etc., etc. No way dude.
As far as all CD games on a single CD no way in hell,
there would be "no where near" enough space at all. You would need damn a HDD.

Raven: You should show Albert that you do have permission from the authors of the small number of homebrew games, in your DVD archive, to reprint their artwork for personal use. Just send an email to the few homebrew authors in your collection and ask if it's OK to post the artwork. I'm sure many people here at AA will enjoy your Jag DVD case inserts, like we have at JSII.

Hey, thanks for all the links man!
, very interesting & cool stuff. Now,... I want to do some of these Jaguar mods.
There is some very good information on those webpages. Much Appreciated gvia66! -
The Jaguar cartridges are for the most part self-cleaning. But, I sometimes clean my edge connectors in carts with a cotton towel moisened with water, "slightly" and I clean each side of the connectors with it and you can see the oxidation come off on the towel as black residue, and the edge connectors then look shiny.
It should work now, no need to use chemicals really, on jag carts. Make sure each side is dry, with a dry part of the towel, and blow out any leftover fibers. I clean my Jaguar cartridge sluts,...oops.. their slots, I mean... in the main unit by getting some paper or thin cardboard and and cutting it and folding it to the exact sizes for each section of the cartridge slot and inserting the paper about 50 times, in and out,
you will see black on the paper when done. You should now have no problem with red screens. And the edge connectors will be shiny, as well as the pins in the cartridge slot too.

Aw, club drive wasn't THAT bad... Of course, I had really tried to learn to like Checkered Flag - so Club Drive is great compared to that!
Graphics aren't too great in Club Drive but the control is there and it can be a fun game if you give it a chance, some modes are better than others. Try the ones with the race tracks. It's better than Checkered Flag and is much more playable, that's not saying much but there are worse games out there. The plain graphics turn a lot of people off.

I don't know about Data Storm but Protector and Protector SE are really great!! If you like DEFENDER/STARGATE type games Protector is a real treat, it is fierce, it's very competitive, has great graphics, control is dead-on and it's really fun and challenging. Pick it up if possible.

GORF rerelease!

-
I think I remember that NHL walk/lock out for that season. I've heard it mentioned previously, some time ago.
-
And GORF!!!! add that to your list, sciarpo, if you don't already have it. It's pretty fun. Will probably be released again in a few weeks, hopefully.

I am having a problem accessing JSII, sometimes it works - sometimes not, I will remove all cookies from my confuser.

Gorf
in Atari Jaguar
Just as I said over at JSII, I'm very sorry to hear your friend lost his life to CF
, kinda makes you rethink things I'm sure and I will definitely support a rerelease of the very cool Gorf! with a purchase.God Bless, and All the best to you and his family, man.

MadBodies should be out soon, and 3 Jagware games down the road. Do you have Double Feature #1 and Lost Treasures? EerieVale is still being worked on, but I think BIWN is not going to finished because the source code was thrown away by Atari.
There are other things in the pipeline too.

Thank You very much!!
, else, I bought a BHH cart from B&C a while ago with no documentation, at all, not even like the one sheet of instructions some people (not me though) got from B&C with Space War 2000. I will be able to enjoy SW2000 and BHH more now because I believe having some info on a computer program makes the game more enjoyable since you know something about it and understand what's happening. Thank You for writing these manuals, they are very well researched and put together.

I thought Trever McFur was a good, fun, challenging game with nice background graphics.

-
^^ Well, you maybe never HEARD of it happening because I bet no one identifies blowing into the cart as the cause. Just like static electricity. It probably destroys more equipment than people know.

The Atari Times, nice website man.
Also the 2-disc Atari CD set I bought from you is really cool! Thanks. Yes, static electricity damage would be hard to detect, things just won't work and you probably would never know something was shorted out by it. However, simply blowing the dust out of the edge connectors area of a Jaguar cartridge seems like it can do no harm, as long as you don't hock a lougie in there the humidity in your breath if it did stick to the contacts would very quickly be dried up, at least here in the Sonoran Desert of Phoenix, Arizona. Electronics last a long time here, like in Silicon Valley California, as long as you don't leave 'em out in the summer heat. Now, Edge connectors for the Jag are made of what looks to be a copper alloy, or gold alloy for BattleSphere. According to well known Atari Mega-dealer Best-Electronics' article they no longer use aluminum for any edge connectors and now use copper which does not rust. It may build up an green oxidation like the Statue of Liberty did. Since Jaguar cartridge edge connectors are self cleaning with the inserting into the cartridge slot, I've found what LS650 said to be very accurate:
I suspect that over time a slight layer of dust or even oxidation causes a poor contact. The old blow trick seems to work, though it may just be the act of plugging/unpluggin the cart scrapes away that bit of dust/oxidation.So how does blowing into a Jaguar cart cause damage? Please explain.

BattleSphere

I may have missed a possible BS-CD but I'm pretty sure BattleSphere isn't on a CD - cart only. They couldn't get the networking to work from a CD and there were other problems I believe something to do with FPS, memory problems? maybe and some other things that could only be done on cartridge.
BattleSphere protos (betas) for the electronics shows were all on carts of some kind (flash, eeprom) and some people in the Jag community have these rare betas.
If your talking Demo CD then, that could probably be copied.
As far as I know a Battlesphere dump put on a CD would take some substantial work to run from CD memory space rather than cart memory space, depending on what format the dump is in: .rom, .jag, bjl, .bin, a plain binary, etc.
So the header would have to be stripped or put on and some code re-written depending....
It must have been some time ago because I haven't seen it on any torrent sites either, it must be on the pay torrent sites.
Unless of course, your boasting about something you want us to believe but haven't really found, because you want to make people that don't have Battlesphere jealous, piss off T-Bird & Oppressor, and try to make yourself look cool by finding something no one else has found. I know you've had bad words with T-Bird before, (on JSII) and it makes me wonder if your not talking smack, sturring the pot, because there is no way you can devulge the location of this supposed illegal BS dump. (Because ScatoLOGIC will personally go there and rip and smash the server) So why say that you've found an illegal ROM if you can't possibly tell the would be pirates where it is?
