Only 1 drive set to D1: I am running APE with one external drive which is set to D2: (1050 drive). The drive looks like the old '800' drive timeout, but pressing the break key does something to read a few sectors more, then it either: a) reads a few more sectors or b) pauses again, then I press break key or c) continues to work normally and loads the program. If there is a way to O'scope the SIO bus, maybe I could did a little deeper. Rory

I'm looking at the cables with suspicion now...

Hi all, I have a 800xl that will start reading sectors, but will stop abruptly. Pressing the break key allows it to continue a few more sectors or sometimes finishes reading the disk. Drive is known good with other machines. Any ideas on how to remedy this? Thanks in advance, Fuji-Man

Question about creating ST disks on Windows XP
Fuji-Man replied to ndary's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Nir, Have a look at this page. There is floppy patch that may help. I've had good success with the software. http://ppera.07x.net/atari/floimgd.php Fuji-Man -
Looks like it might work, but maybe find a real video cable instead. Never know how they have it wired. Try here: http://www.cables-unlimited-usa.com/rcc/pages/atari100.html or B&C or Best Electronics. Fuji-Man

Empty bank in 520STFM waiting for chips

Decoupling caps are usually .1 µf (microfarad). Note decimal point. Actually they are capacitors (in this case called "decoupling capacitors") -
Very nice. The Big Blue printer is thermal. So finding some thermal paper might be in order.

Hi, Make sure the drive selection switches are set to Drive 1. The computer won't boot a disk if it is not set to Drive 1. I believe the both the black and white switches have to be in the left position. Fuji-Man

I'll take a set too. The ANTICS were great!

Amazing ST haul from Craigslist

Technically no.. If Atari ST BASIC and modem scripting is your bag, then you have some programming stuff here... STE Language Disk - USA ST Language Disk - USA STalker 3 Realistically, there isn't any programming related items here... So partial credit... LOL FujiMan There's no programming related items noted in the list. -
Well, chalk another one up for the 600XL on the plus side... LOL. Anyway, I've performed one of the home brew 64k upgrades on my 600XL. Now when I need to reboot the machine, the machine retention is like 10 seconds off before I can get a proper clean reboot. Any sooner and the machine comes up in a 'locked' state. Any ideas? If I had a schematic and an idea where to look for problems, I'd be working on it now. I'll fire up the O'scope and see if anyone has ideas while its warming up.. Fuji-Man

The Great Atari ST Game Survey
Fuji-Man replied to StickHead's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Hi, Heres my list, no particular order: Captive, Dungeon Master, Ishar, Legends of Valor, Future Basketball (Not a great game, but hundreds of hours gladly wasted) Fuji-Man -
Hi, -12 means 120ns -15 means 150ns Not sure if they will work or not... FujiMan

Match Racer by Gebelli. Spent hours on that one. One of the first games I bought back then... Fuji-man I still enjoy playing Baja Buggies. Not a true racing game per se, but I've always loved Trailblazer. Yes! Baja Buggies. One of the early games I played and enjoyed. Anyone remember "Match Racer?" Simple, but beautiful, smooth vertical scrolling and lots of fun in the early days of Atari. -Larry

Ahhh, a reoccurring and most tiring theme... A new machine using old technology = LOTS of money and work Building a machine using todays technology = lots of work [climbs on soapbox] I love my 8 bit, but I have no love loss for the SIO bus. PBI, great idea, not implemented well commercially, except for the few that can afford a Black Box or MIO. Volumes of grossly inefficient AtariBlack transformers for peripherals that are not going to last forever. Upgrades for video, network or drives that are vaporware or expensive. Real hardware is still available and relatively cheap, but for how long? The majority of 8 bit software is available in virtual form in one way or another. Emulation in software is getting better. With several boards like the Pandora(~$330 US), BeagleBoard ($150) and possibly others doesn't seem like hardware is the issue. These will become available soon. Imagine a portable that isn't a complete hack with hot glue and loose wires, but a polished stable speedy machine? Any machine you wanted as a portable. Especially an Atari. I see hands going up already. We need to pick the lemons before having lemonade. And we definitely need help picking those lemons. Narrowing the choices is step in the right direction. Picking one sets ideas into action. Its time to compare lemons... Who is with me? Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? [/falls off soapbox] ouch... FujiMan

New Atari 1040 STF user with questions...
Fuji-Man replied to Mark Wolfe's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Mark, The Rainbow TOS chips may have more pins than the TOS chip that are currently in the ST. You will probably need to find a adapter PCB for the newer chips. If you do a google search on 'TEC Codehead Atari'. Codeheads used to have a board that you could solder in to accept the newer ROMs. These are rare as hen's teeth. I had one in my ST back in early 90's. There are other alternatives. There is also a mod site http://atari4ever.free.fr/ that will show you how to hack a new ROM set as well as other neat hacks. FWIW, I've not used any of them to verify if they work. Some of them look tempting I would suggest looking at the RAM upgrades. Anything over 2 megabytes will be a good investment. Checking in with the folk at www.atari-forum.com for any upgrades and hints is advised. Make sure you search the extensive forum before posting a question. They are quite helpful. Hope this helps, FujiMan Elburn, IL USA -

Can't change resolution on my Mega STe
Fuji-Man replied to Gunstar's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Hi, Yea, any desktop issues with missing icons or reboots means a corrupt .inf file. Keep a backup in another folder so when/if it happens you can overwrite it. Fuji-Man -
TOP COVER GRAPHIC CONTEST FOR NEW MIO CASE
Fuji-Man replied to MEtalGuy66's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Hi, fwiw. I like this one, except add the 'Rasterline Innovations' logo and remove the Atari logo. The XL/XE model name would imply Atari, so unless you know you wont have any legal issues, why include it? Black label with gray text? Not sure how much multicolor labels will cost. Two color will be much cost effective. Vinyl would be the way to go. My brother works for a company that does motorcycle racing stickers. Fuji-Man -
Larry, Just a suggestion. Dunno if this will work, but worth a try. Maybe set APE to use 1 core. Fuji-Man
