  1. Wow. That is a great find. Spy Hunter! Bump 'n Jump! 2600 Jr.! Lots of other good stuff too.
  2. I think the sticks sound awesome too. They are one of the reasons why I plan get a Flashback 2. Anyway, all I said is that it isn't a replacement for a 2600 (though I forgot that with a mod, it technically is a replacement). I didn't expect any more to be read into that. I didn't say that it isn't a 2600 (which is debatable, but since it uses actual 2600 hardware it technically is a 2600).
  3. In Solaris, it brings up the map screen and in Radar Lock it switches weapons.
  4. Nintendo just announced a game using the Ouendan engine with all new songs named Elite Beat Agents, so it's looking unlikely that Ouendan will reach the US. However, I'm hoping that this new title will at least live up to Ouendan.
  5. I'm more in to playing games into collecting. I plan to get some rarity 5s or 6s like Laser Gates, Beamrider, and HERO and maybe a cart only rarity 7 like Xenophobe, but for my Quadrun or Sabotaur fix, I'll just get a Flashback 2. However, I don't feel Flashback 2 is a replacement for a real 2600. The real 2600 has games like Solaris that have yet to be ported to Flashback, lincensed games like Ms. Pac-Man, Frogger, Q*Bert, Reactor, Popeye, etc. that don't have much chance of getting ported, and a very nice homebrew community with sweet games like Star Fire and Marble Craze.
  6. Double Dragon is Technos, not Taito. Taito only distributed the arcade game in the US. Taito didn't design Double Dragon, nor do they own the rights to it. Double Dragon is owned by a company named Million which is made up of former Technos employees.
  7. I second Ouendan. That game is awesome. It's a music game were buttons appear on screen and you have to press them in tune to the music when the bar appears over the white circle on the buttons. The game throws parts where you have to keep holding down on the button in a line, buttons with more/less beats, buttons on top of other buttons and other things at you too. The music selection is great and the game has a wacky style to it. Goemon DS is great, but it has lots of text and overuses the stylus. It has the same wacky style Goemon goes for and, even without being about to read the text, the wacky humor in it is quite charming. The game uses and isometric perspective and has some Zelda like elements to it. I recommed it, but not without resverations. I also like Mawashite Koron, but I'm not sure if it's worth 45 or 50 dollars. I got it when it was on sale at play-asia for about 15 dollars and it was definatly worth that much. Mawashite Koron is a DS remake of Cameltry. Like Cameltry, you tilt a maze to guide a ball through it. Unlike Cameltry, you can't make the ball jump. Instead, there is a charge up move you use to make the ball break through blocks.
  8. The 4 in 1 cart doesn't do 4mb games that well. The 5 in 1 does. Get that one instead The official name of the cart isn't 5 in 1. The so called "5 in 1" is just the later revision of the 4 in 1. The real name of it is "Action Replay 4m Plus". They can be ordered from Play-Asia. Keep in mind that I don't have a 1m or 4m game to test with it yet, but the Action Replay 4m Plus I have already has the latest firmware, which is a good sign. http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-k8-77-...lay-70-1b2.html
  9. That MSX Saturn collection is awesome, but it doesn't have all of Konami's best for MSX. It only has MSX1 games. It's missing some great MSX1 titles like Q*Bert, Frogger, King's Valley 2, Nightmare 2, and Goonies and doesn't have any MSX2 games. That means no Vampire Killer/Akumajo Dracula, no Metal Gear, no Goemon, no Quarth, and no Space Manbow. Still, the selection in the MSX collection is excellent. The titles you mentioned are great, but don't forget that the collection has the excellent sequel to Antartic Adventure, Penguin Adventure. Other titles worth mentioning are Knightmare, Yie Ar Kung Fu 2, Magical Tree, Super Cobra, Athletic Land, Comic Bakery, Gofer no Yobou Episode 2, and Parodius. Last I checked, www.mcvans.com still has the Saturn MSX collection for 10 dollars + 6 dollars shipping brand new. It's a very good price for the game and I can vouch for mcvans. They shipped fast and the game was well packed.
  10. I'm not sure of the 2.7 from that site is a beta, but it seems to be a bit buggy. It exits out when I try to use pads with it, unlike earlier versions. It gave me an error when I tried to enter the configuration menu too.
  11. cool. Thanks. I like the GBA Namco Museum 50th. I like how it has tate. I do wish it had more games in it, but I like it better than both Namco Museum GBA and Pac-Man Collection. I wish I had the arcade patterns completely memorized, though. It would make it a lot easier than doing guess work on various ports.
  12. I would bet my 2600 PacMan* that the only diffrences in the source are what HAS to be changed for platform-specific issues. In other words, they're all the exact same thing. *Not that it'd be much of a loss... cool. Don't bet your 2600 Alien, Ms. Pac-Man, or Jr. Pac-Man, though.
  13. Not completely. I replied to the post becuase it assumed that someone didn't read a post just becuase the first two Pac-Man Worlds, games not designed by Namco of Japan, used ports and nobody directly replied to it. I heard that the first two Pac-Man Worlds were designed by a US version of Namco and the third one, which has a more innaccurate port, was designed by Blitz Games. I haven't played the port in Pac-Man World 1, but the Pac-Man in Pac-Man World 2 has sounds that are way off. Most of the replies here address the Xbox version, but not the GCN or PS2 ones. Has it been confirmed that the PS2 one doesn't use emulation? What about the GCN one? I heard that they both use emulation elsewhere, but posts here suggest that the PS2 one may not use emulation. There isn't much about the GCN one in this thread at all. Not everything has been addressed. Also, I'm a bit confused about Jess's reply about the GBA version. The ports in the GBA Namco Musuem 50th seemed to be more accurate than the ones in Namco Musuem GBA and Pac-Man Collection.
  14. Hmmm. Could it be that high pitched warbly sound that occurs during the shooting phases in Solar Storm?
  15. Then you obviously didn't read this post. http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?s...56entry924156 I read that post, but that doesn't prove that the Namco Museum 50th collection doesn't use emulation. Digitial Eclipse developed the 50th Anniversary Collections, not Namco. Then again, it doesn't prove that it does use emulation either since Namco usually ports games, but the versions in Namco Museum 50th for GBA (not sure about other versions) have some option settings that have been in MAME for quite awhile, but have never been used in previous Namco collections. However, the GBA versions are ports, not emulation, though.
  16. Colony 7 is in Taito Legends 1 for PS2 and Xbox. I also know for sure that Qix in one of the games in Taito Legends 2, but I'm still waiting for details of a US release. Taito Legends 2 is already available in Europe on PS2, Xbox, and PC.
  17. oops. hit the reply button by mistake.
  18. Umm. Go back and read some of the posts. There was a complaint about the 5200 Pac-Man being too slow. Also, I said nothing to suggest that I didn't know that Ms. Pac-Man for the 5200 starts out slow. I used to have the 5200 one and I still have the 800 one. The Atari 800 XL version is almost exactly the same as the 5200 one, right down to the initial slowness. Here is the post that I was responding to: I don't agree that a poorly emulated game in Mame is better than a good port. IMO, speed, sound, and bugs in emulation that affect gameplay are part of accuracy. In many cases, I found an overclocked or slow game in mame to be much less fun than a well done port. Lacking sound doesn't kill gameplay, but it does take away from the experience. The original ROMs alone don't make an emulation accurate to the original. How well it's emulated or ported is what makes it accurate, no matter what emulator is better used. I know that Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man are accurate in mame, but, as far as I know, there is no way to get the roms legally unless you own the arcade games. I don't like how pirated games are being used as a replacement for official versions. Some of the more recent versions of Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man like the ones Namco Museum 50th (which also uses emulation BTW. The Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man in the GBA Namco Museum 50th are ports, but very close to the originals) are much closer to the originals than earlier versions and I rather play that than a pirated game in MAME. For me, it does matter how accurate ports/official emulations/conversions are because I like playing old ports and I rather get official versions than pirated ones.
  19. I find it odd how there is a game called "Galaxy" with a Twinbee label, especially one from Moreo Twinbee, which came out in 1988. I'm guessing that the game inside is either Galaxian, Demon Attack, Solar Storm, Solaris, or Megamania.
  20. No mention of the 800 Ms. Pac-Man? It's pretty much the same as the 5200 one. I like that port. I wish it started out faster, though. I also like the 2600 Ms. Pac-Man. I'm a bit confused about the slowness comments on the 5200 Pac-Man. It has been sped up quite a bit compared to the Atari 800 version. I don't feel the 5200 one is slow. It's still not arcade exact, but it is better than the 800 version. I like the 800 one, though. I also like the Intellivision Pac-Man. It's similar in some ways to the 5200 version, but the maze is smaller and the game seems to speed up as you eat more dots. I don't feel MAME or closer ports makes the older ports of the games obsolete. Also, many of the more recent ports of Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man in compliations like Namco Museum PSX and Namco Museum 50th are quite good. It's a bit unfair to compare older ports of games to MAME. Of course, the mame ones will be closer. A few of the games still aren't emulated correctly too. Many older ports do a good job with keeping the gameplay of the original and some of them are different enough to be worth playing in their own right.
  21. What about support for stuff like the booster grip? That would definatly add an extra button.
  22. Rally X and Bosconian had official ports on the Japan/Europe only MSX computer. Many other official Namco ports like Mappy, Pac-Man, Dig Dug, Galaga, Tank Battalion/Battle City, Dragon Buster, and Xevious (official, but ported/remade by Compile) were on it too.
  23. I like the Activision Ghostbusters. My favorite version of it is the SMS version (which, as far as I know, wasn't done by Activision, but based on their version), but I like the 2600 one too. It's very impressive for the system. I picked this up with a bunch of other games, including Summer Games and California games. I highly recommend both of those too.
