No, the SNES version is far worse. Unlike the Genesis version, you can elbow the opponent without even hitting them. Genesis version is far more playable than the SNES version. Genesis version has much better hit detection and gameplay. I don't feel Pit Fighter is a good game in any form, but I highly disagree that the SNES and Genesis versions are equally bad.

SNES is far worse than the Genesis version, which is one of the only decent ports of a game that wasn't that hot to begin with. 7800 proto doesn't sound good from what I heard about it.

Or even before then when stores like Babbages were mostly computer software. I was born in 79, but I remember stores like Egghead Software.

The Coleco Donkey Kong Junior tabletop, which is Nintendo made.

Best Home Version of Ms. Pac-Man?
BrianC replied to VectorGamer's topic in Classic Console Discussion
They aren't identical. SNES has sounds closer to arcade and turbo and harder modes seem to be a bit slower. The Atari 8 bit/5200 version is my favorite port. It has quite a bit intact from the arcade and gets some things right that later ports got wrong. I disagree about it being slow. The way Ms. Pac-Man slows when she eats dots is a bit choppy, making the game seem slower than it actually is. The ghosts and everything else move fast. At least she slows down when she eats dots like she's supposed to. The movement of the ghosts and mazes are close to the arcade, so I found the videos to be disappointing. Dispite not being the most accurate port, I like the GB/GBC Ms. Pac-Man myself. Sounds are off, but I like how it has a harder mode, has all of the arcade mazes, and keeps the challenge intact. I heard NES and GG ones are very similar, but the GBC one at least fixes the colors. I voted for Pac-Man Collection CV since it's the closest to the arcade. The 7800 PMC version, especially in the later small dots rev, is even better than the original 7800 version. -
Do you consider Jr. Pac-Man to be in the Pac-Man Canon or is it the bastard

I noticed some of the home versions like the 800/5200 changed the Galaxian to an Atari logo. I actually didn't know what the Galaxian was until I played the GB/SGB port of the game. I have played previous versions of Galaxian on 5200 and 2600, but the GB was my first experience with a version that uses the proper sprite for the boss alien. -
oh cool. I had JellyCar on iPad. That game was a lot of fun.

Yes. Nukey Shay did Pac-Man 8k.

2600 Galaxian - near perfect arcade colors & graphics hack
BrianC replied to espire8's topic in Atari 2600 Hacks
Looks neat. Lots of impressive Galaxian hacks popping up. Out of curiousity, is it possible to hack Galaxian into this? It's a hack of the arcade Galaxian from the makers of Crazy Climber that adds an energy gauge similar to Megamania. -
I wonder what the reaction would be if this was released in the US back in the day. 2600 version is actually closer in some ways.

I think the first two level 8k on this page that Nukey Shay posted is the one that didn't roll. I haven't tried the other 8k animated ones. Edit: Actually, I think it was the second one I tried since it mentions that the first has bugs. Edit 2: It seems the second 8k one definitely lacks the flipping, so it started with the 16k version Batari posted.
-
I just tried the first 8k version with animations and it doesn't flip. I don't feel they add to the gameplay, but they are a nice addition. I'm more interested in some of the other missing arcade elements like the bonus timer, disappearing walls, and music, though. Edit: Doh. Moving walls are still there, though one thing missing from home versions is the ability to shoot them.

Don't get me wrong, I feel it's different from the DRM that prevents games from working, but the measures seem a bit on the extreme side. Then again, I do agree it's less extreme than DRM that prevents the game from working and it does make the person who pirated the game known.

I understand the reasons behind it, but I find it a bit off putting that unofficial ports of other companies' games are often the ones with the ROM being sold for 20 dollars with the most DRM/protection. A lot of those games are only sold CIB when the 2600/7800 games are sold with just the cart and manual. Not to mention those Atari games are often in the 40-80 range when sold CIB.

Not to mention the Pac-Man collection with Pokey hack for the 7800, which tep392 was also involved with.

rom hacks to support 2 buttons with genesis controllers
BrianC replied to RevEng's topic in Atari 2600 Hacks
I wouldn't mind seeing a two button version of this hack and the Supercharger game Meteoroids. I like being able to use shields and hyperspace at the same time, but I also like the idea of the extra button being thrust instead of hyperspace. -
no. This game has anti air and two different titles.

rom hacks to support 2 buttons with genesis controllers
BrianC replied to RevEng's topic in Atari 2600 Hacks
I would like to see a version of thrust for the Genesis controller, if possible. Is it possible to hack Tutankham for one button to shoot left and the other to shoot right like the arcade (with the flash still activated by up and a button)? I always found it odd how both the 7800 and 2600 versions of Kung Fu Master are missing the jump kick. I also found out that the running jump kick is hard to pull off in the arcade since the controller doesn't do diagonals (you have to jump and kick at the same time in mid run, if I remember correctly). Is it possible to add those back in to the 2600 version? It's already much better than before with separate buttons for kick and punch. -
I would like to find more info on some of them. I noticed even some games with NTSC versions like Ikari Warriors have a PAL to NTSC conversion.

For some odd reason, Professor Pac-Man is also in that game. If I remember correctly, he's also in Pac-Man World 2. Ms. Pac-Man wasn't in Namco Museum Megamix for Wii, Namco Museum DS, or Pac-Man/Galaga Dimensions for 3DS. Those platforms don't have a separate version of Ms. Pac-Man. Not to mention that the Namco NES version isn't on the 3DS or Wii U VC. I didn't say it was always ignored, just that it was often ignored. Making a game that is already on the system for 5 dollars as a standalone game and available on disc in a collection DLC for a XBLA collection doesn't make much sense to me. The DLC was free when the collection first came out, though. -
I'm curious how far back the flipping goes. I'll download and test the first animated one to see if it has any issues. The 3 level non animated AE version in 8k works great.
