Dang, wish I could help, but that isn't going to happen. Don't have the time, knowledge, equipment, money, ambition... *sigh*

From the front page: quote: Did you know? Russ Perry Jr. coined the term "Frying" in respect to eliciting strange effects from a 2600 by modulating the power. Wow, I didn't expect that... Also, I can't take full credit, as I can't honestly remember if it was me or my brother Dave you first uttered that word; to be fair, my brother should get partial credit.

C'mon guys! 2600 Connection? "Starsoft Nicht Exiestierent"? A few issues ago? Thanks to Eckhard for all his detective work, I was able to write up a cool cover story about Starsoft being made up and, as Eckhard mentioned, the "SS" probably being "Suntek Software".

I think Snow White could be a CGE release this year... Pompeii & Squoosh were long-rumored, then Squoosh was found by one guy but not released, and finally found again and released. Long history... As to interviewing marketing types, sure, if I run across one I'd certainly ask about all the games, but they're not as "famous" as the programmers, so they're harder to find.

Marco: Maybe not classic, but the N64 definitely has collectibility, as it's the last console to take cartridges. And personally, I think it's one of the best looking consoles ever (but let's not talk about the Pikachu version -- holy SHIT that thing is ugly!).

Fretwobbler wrote: quote: On the Microsoft front I just cannot understand why in USA, which is the most succesful capitilist nation on Earth, 99% of the people living there (and everywhere else in the world) hold a grudge against a company for being succesful. [...] Anybody that hates Microsoft is either not educated enough about the subject, working for Netscape or just jumping on the bandwaggon. Bullshit. Hatred of Microsoft isn't because they're successful, it's because they got there by making shoddy (though amibitious) software, using unethical business practices (at times) to gain advantage over competitors, and then having the arrogance to say they know what's best for us. Take away the last point and I probably wouldn't quite hate them, though I still wouldn't be a fan. The problem is, the Justice Department really seems to levied the wrong charges at MS. They set up a sloppy target for persecution, and it won't matter if they hit or not, MS will not have been punished for the things they've done unethically. dwh wrote: quote: The only thing microsoft did wrong was to steal the operating system(changing the prompt from a> to c>)Apple computer was worse, they stole everything Xerox Corp. had invented in Palo Alto. Actually, I don't know the whole story, but supposedly Apple DID pay Xerox PARC. Now, it might have been afterward, not before, but they did pay something for the privilege of having seen the demo. MS on the other hand just stole Apple's design without paying Apple OR Xerox. Who's the real crook there? The answer is either both, or just MS. Either way MS, is only as bas as -- and possibly worse than -- Apple.

Scott et al -- okay, so it's really "LG", but if the bottom of the "L" is missing, why isn't the bottom of the "G"? Does the "L" stretch underneath it or something? Can somebody give a PAL screenshot, or does it not even show up correctly in PAL?
-
Yak! Hey, how are you doing? Funny to see a celeb around.

Scott, buddy... I tried to email you something and I got this error: quote: The user(s) account is temporarily over quota. Please reply to [email protected] if you feel this message to be in error. Might wanna fix that!

The two "Microsoft" carts I have both say "Onyx Jr" on them too. "Onyx Jr" is the name of the system Microdigital sold. I'm not sure my carts say "Microdigital" on the back, but one is a tiny bit shorter than the other.
-
Eckhard, can you take a screenshot? The ones Scott has taken definitely look like 'TG', not 'LG'.

The videos are available at CyberPuNKS. Debro: we'd love to put them on DVD for the permanence, but I'm not sure it'll ever happen.

Not to wander off-topic, but a female calls from the john? Whoa... A have a guy friend who does that, but I can't picture any of my gal friends doing it. Does she say "bye guys" too?

Ze_ro wrote: quote: Sheesh you guys... I remember back in the 80's getting my C-64 magazines and typing in 10 pages worth of assembly language for one program... Yeah, but I bet you didn't have carpal tunnel or another RSI yet. Hopefully you never will.

I've seen a couple South Park references in this thread, so how about Roshambo? Or a new Mystique game: The Fatty Arbuckle Sex Simulator.

King Atari wrote: quote: Think how cool it'd be, hooking an Atari up to a TV with a built in PONG game! Actually, I think it would even cooler to build Pong into a NEW TV somehow. You've got friends over, you pick up the remote, change in to "The Pong Channel" and play Pong with the remote. They won't believe their eyes. Then you hand them a universal remote that's tuned to your TV and reset to a two-player game and trounce them 15-0.

If you had the money you could just buy a test scripting program to do that.

I think Goliath also used the V-shaped carts...

I can see the Save Game emulator feature good for storing these once they're in, but not as input -- ideally, copying text off of here into a text file and then importing into the emulator would save some typing time. But again, it's not like there's SO much text allowed in these programs.

What might be fun is to make a whole new site (mind you, I'm not exactly volunteering here :-)) where one could rank any/all games, where "game" is a unique ROM/concept... You'd actually have a scale fine enough that you could rank each one separately -- i.e. you could order them. If you were persistent enough, you could rate & order every game released, and you could see, by the ratings, by how much you liked one game better than the next, or any other. You could also scope other people's ratings, compare by game, etc. Heh, talk about obsessive/anal though...

It was a Magnavox set... Maybe model 4205?

Rhindle: Nihongo ga dekimasu ka? Ob bad game name: Fingernail Puller

Would it be possible to hobble a way to load a text file into BASIC in an emulator? I wouldn't mind typing this in on a regular keyboard, but on the keypads? Yuck. Or maybe someone can hack an old PC keyboard to act as a pair of keypads? :-)

After persuing the Synthcart page, I think you SHOULD lug TVs to the gigs -- let people see what the keypad is doing. Also, if you could add any color cycling/weirdness when inactive, that would add to the effect. Not so elaborate as Video Music, but, you know... trippy.

Okay, last message for this thread for now, I promise. :-) I see you have Stell-A-Sketch under Retroware. I'm pretty sure my Okie Dokie -- from Bob, not Hozer -- also says Retroware, so regardless of which category you put them in, they should be together. Of course, Bob=Retroware, so it's a horse apiece either way.
