  1. ok i think it was the first rpg made for a home system way back when..was about 1983 maybe 84 i had an atari 2600 with this game that was like 3 times the size of a normal cartridge and had a wire that went into my headphone jack of my stereo and it came with a tape for the sound of the game played obviously through the stereo.

I think you're a bit confused by this last bit though... The sound came from the Atari just like any other game -- the tape actually had the game encoded as an audio signal, which got downloaded to the cartridge (which, as others have pointed out, is the Starpath Supercharger).

  2. But has anyone ever seen Bouncing Baby Monkeys?

Someone must have somewhere. It pops up on quite a few lists, and I don't think Telesys ever advertised it (I may be wrong). One has to wonder about some of the entries on those old 2600 lists.

Hope you're not talking about mine! :-)

This one comes, I think, from an interview with Alex Leavens, in (maybe) Electronic Fun, or some other classic mag (possibly Videogaming Illustrated?). If not from that interview, then probably from a VideoLivery or G.A.M.E.S. ad, as they both seemed to list a lot of pre-release names.

  3. There's a Yahoo Group about it, and I think there's a compatibility FAQ in there, though I'm not sure it goes into things like tight fit... Ward Shrake figured a lot of this out, so there might be compatibility notes in his Digital Press Collectors Guide intro too.

  4. game ending spoiler beware sorta

so i got the very last level, where the bull has been shot down and you're there to finish him off. hate to say but i got too bored with the level to complete it, damn shame since the level prior was kickass. its just too easy/hard you can live forever by getting underneath the bull and blast away all you want but he wont die...zzzzzzzz

Actually, I've never been able to live forever doing that, but I've also never been able to kill him either. There's gotta be a trick to that level, right?

  5. Eckhard beat me to it... NOT a Arcadia 2001 clone.

There's also a Hanimex (& Fountain, and Prinztronic, and...) 1292, but I can't recall what's different between the 1292 and 1392. Maybe just more memory in the 1392? Or allows bigger ROMs?

  6. Slightly OT, but what's the key to success in the Crazy Taxi long jump? One dash at the beginning? Also a dash at the end? Dash the whole time? Something else?

I think I've done best by backing up to the end and dashing just once at the beginning, but it's been a while...

  7. More likely his computer got infected by a virus and is unknowingly pumping out infected e-mails.  Still someone shoulde-mail him and let him know.

I am not even sure that John's computer has the virus. It could be anybody who has John's email address stored in his Outlook addressbook.

Exactly. And for the record, I got some PIF file (a nice way of spreading a virus) from Albert just earlier today. I'm sure he didn't send it, and he's probably not infected, but somebody who knows John and Al probably is. :-)

  8. What I find funny (in a sad way) is that when Ward was making these he was having trouble selling them.  Now it appears that after he's stopped making them there's a huge demand.  Funny how that works...

Except that it's not really a huge demand now either... The idea is, you need to make a bunch and accept the fact that it will take years to clear them out, or you accept that you'll be asked to make another one every six months or so. Of course, as a seller you can also just say "the heck with it, you snooze you lose", which is about what Ward did (though in fairness, they were available for some time, and were even sold at the last CGE, so don't take that as a knock on Ward -- I'm happy he undertook the project in the first place!).

  9. WOW I FIXED IT!!!!!  It was a big chunk of lint trapped between two gears in the laser module.  this caused the laser to not move and thus not read cd's.  This is the first time I took a system apart and fixed it!! I'm SO JUICED HAHA!!! cool gonna play me some CRRRRRRRAZY Taxi now  :D  :D  :D

Hmm... Guess I should do a lint check on mine -- it's "sort of" busted... I did a little testing last weekend and found that Crazy Taxi works (yay!) but Crazy Taxi 2 does not (boo!). Other games didn't work last time I checked, so I'm not sure why it's being selective...

  10. This is only general help since I haven't touched my Video Pinball in years, let alone any pong, and don't have any kind of docs in front of me. But...

Batteries vs AC adaptor is usually a one-or-the-other sort of thing. In those days adaptors were extra parts you didn't need but were nice if you felt like splurging.

And it wouldn't hurt to try channels 2-4 (maybe even 5-6) just in case it uses a different one than other systems.

The cable almost certainly needs to go through an RF adaptor box (TV/Game switch), so if you have one from a 2600 laying around, pipe it through that.

Otherwise, does the unit hum, smell, warm up, anything?

  11. (who are probably the only people in North America who know what Asterix and Obelix are)

You don't know what you are missing. :)

I admit I never read any, so Thomas is right, but Matt's way off -- I knew about Asterix & Obelix before I ever got the games (in like 1986 or so from a guy who said they were prototypes, but which may have really been Jim Redd specials).

  12. NOTE: Chris has recently suffered a fire in his apartment; though he has hinted at the need for cash being incentive to code some things quickly, chances are he's busy repairing his life right now.

Luckily, no one was hurt in the fire.
