I only have a os2 because I sold my ps1 a few months ago. Can you use a ps1 memory card in a ps2?

I got this game 2 days ago at a flea market. I put it into my ps2 and start the game. When I get to the save point the game says, "No memory card detected" so i thought something was wrong with the memory. So then I put in ff12 and it saves fine. Does anyone know why ff7 won't save?

speak of the devil I did this morning also i heard this game was really bad.. didnt know if i should try to pick it up or not, i have the other two games. i know that they remade it on japan in 3d, so i was wondering if i should just import that version instead? dude that game is awesome................ (maybe only I liked it?) it is sort of easy The card system is cool the levels are original the bosses are lame the intro cinematics are awesome
