The Atari Deathwatch Begins
Nintendo Penguin replied to NovaXpress's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I havent played the beta yet, but my friends have... it seems to be well recieved. It is also getting a little bit of hype on G4tv. Of course there is a ton of risk... there is always that risk with any new game or mmorpg. The timing for a new high profile mmorpg is good though... WoW has been around for ever a year now and some people are undoubtedly starting to get bored with it. Hell, I got bored with WoW after 4 months. SWG has gotten even more screwed-up recently and since SWG and DDO share a very similar fan base this could be good for DDO. Also, GameStop claims they are getting a lot of pre-orders for it. Personally I think this game is going to be a big hit. What concerns me is that I am not sure if one MMORPG hit is enough to stop the bleeding at atari. -
The Atari Deathwatch Begins
Nintendo Penguin replied to NovaXpress's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I am glad to see you guys finally started talking about the D&D title. That could well be the title that saves teir sorry asses. 3 years ago Midway was in about the same as Atari... now it is a $15 stock... I would give up hope just yet... especially with such a high profile title only weeks away. As for the buyout speculaton... INfogrames owns like 60% (more than that I think) and I see no reason for them to sell just Atari. No good company is going to purchase a company with a bunch of debt and hardly any assets. I think it is much more likely that Infogrames as a whole is bought if anything. Next I wold like to comment on Management... it has been proved time and time again that foriegn CEOs do not do well running american companies. (Even though Infogrames is the parent, the Atari nameplate is only being used in North America, so consider it an American company with a big foreign stock holder) Foreigners screwed-up at companies such as Ford and Goodyear, and countless others. For whatever reason this seems to be true time and time again.... Infogrames should have known better then to put their guy "Bonnell" in-charge. History can teach us a lot in business... companies should pay more attention to stuff like this. Another serious problem... if you look at their annual report, they spend way more on Administrative costs than they do on Game R&D. WTF is that? D&D may save thier asses, or at least prolong the inevitable, but swift management change is what is called for here... if nothing else it will boost investor confidence and the stock should bouce up a bit. -
Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine. It was only available at BLockbuster or online through LucasArts.

Are the black Sega Sports Edition Dreamcasts worth anything? I have one that I gought back in '98 cause it came with some sports games. I am not really a "Sega guy" so I don;t know too much about them. All I know is I never see used black ones for sale.

Proudest Video Gaiming Moment?
Nintendo Penguin replied to silverpoodleman's topic in Classic Console Discussion
For me it would be a toss-up between a couple of different things... the first time I beat Super Mario Bros or when I finally beat King's Quest IV would be up there... But my proudest would be surpassing the high score recorded on Twin Galaxies for the Test Track on Pole Position II. I always thought I was awesome at that game... and who knows... maybe I am the best. -
Most used "obscure" hardware?
Nintendo Penguin replied to shadow460's topic in Classic Console Discussion
To me anyway, that SNES mouse is kind of obscure... I think it only worked with one game. What about the VAUS controller for Arkanoid on the NES? Or R.O.B. for that matter? -
How to blow $5 at Wal*Mart
Nintendo Penguin replied to MegaManFan's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I don't feel too bad when I go to wal*mart... but since I feel wal*mart basically sucks, I rarely go there. I am more of a Target man myself. As for the games, I agree... Ford Racing 3 is the best of the bunch! -
Traveling next week...

All new N64 ONLY website coming soon!
Nintendo Penguin replied to Nintendo Penguin's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Holy Crap! I forgot about this thread! I apologize... I did not realize so many were waiting on the site. I am not going to bore you with details, but I have been busy, busy, busy.... Let's say Feb. 1, 2006. (If I don't deliver you have my permission to request Albert to ban me!) For those of you that are interested, the website is N64age.com... although there is nothing there yet, I do have a bunch of stuff in a Dreamweaver folder. Again, my apologies... I totally forgot I had made an annoucement and if I had realized sooner people were waiting I would have dedicated more free time to it. -

I totally screwed-up putting this in the classic gaming thread... I don't know what I was thinking! Sorry all... I don;t usually make mistakes like this... but yeah... if anyone knows a good place to buy some classic games between new mexico and ohio drop me a line. Too bad I don't have more time... I would go to Jersey and check out that new DP store. -
History Question: Time/Place for Game Renting
Nintendo Penguin replied to Zwackery's topic in Classic Console Discussion
We lived in So Cal then... I don't remember (and neither does my older brother) any game rentals or used games stores until the NES was going strong. When Atari was king of the hill, I pretty much only remember seeing used games at swapmeets. The only exception being the annual software convention that used to be held in anaheim. That used to be a great place to get Apple and Atari stuff. Hope that answers your question. -
I am going away for a few days next week cause I need to get the fuck away from my family! They are driving me nuts! I am going to drive from Santa Fe, NM to Youngstown, OH. The long drive will give me some "me" time. I am going to Youngstown cause I have friends there. Maybe I will stop in Indianapolis and checkout the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.... I have always wanted to see that. Can anyone recommend anything else to do or see on the way?

Got a funny item to sell and need some ebay tips
Nintendo Penguin replied to Nintendo Penguin's topic in Auction Central
You should have sold it for the $100. I have bought and sold MANY copies of SMB 3 that where pirates. I never buy them for more than 2 or 3 dollars and can never sell them for more than $10 tops, But best of luck, Maybe you have some odd uber rare or something. What color is the shell? I have had black, pink, orange, white, standard "NES" grey & yellow. 992522 I have a white one and a blue one. I am only going to sell the white one though. Thanks for the advice guys. -
Happy new year all! I have been doing some new years cleaning and have decided to part with some video game stuff... I will put up more on that once I list the auctions. Here's the problem... one of the prizes of my NES collection is a pirate copy of Super Mario Bros. 3. I tried listing it on ebay about a year ago, but it was removed becausae I used the word "pirate" in the description. I was thinking of relisting it and billing it as an "Unlicensed Super Mario Bros. 3"... what do ya all think? This thing should fetch more than a couple dollars (I was offered $100 once) and I could use the cash, but I do not want people to pass the auction by thinking it is just another SMB3 cart. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Cart-based military strategy games?
Nintendo Penguin replied to liquidcross's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I remember enjoying Liberty or Death on the SNES. -
Busy people often sign credit card slips without checking the amount. Foolish, perhaps, but hardly uncommon. 981349 Thank you... thats pretty much what happened. I was busy talking and thinking about other shopping I needed to do... I just screwed up.

You know... I dont really have a problem with what he did. Listen to what I did... Just yesterday, I went to Mervyn's and got my mom some clothes and stuff for Christmas. I wanted the stuff gift wrapped, so I took it to the gift wrap department. The lady was really nice and wrapped all the stuff very nicely. One little problem though... I was never rung up for the items... only the gift wrap. I didn't even think about it until last night when I was taking the stuff out of the car. The differnce here is that I didn't do it on purpose... I felt kinda bad, but at the same time I am not about to spend time and money driving back to Albuquerque just to take care of what amounts to an employee's mistake. Does that make me just as bad as the first guy?

Ebay transaction problem... (need some advice)
Nintendo Penguin replied to Nintendo Penguin's topic in Auction Central
TRANSACTION UPDATE! VENGENCE! WILL BE MINE! So the guy and I left each other negative feedback... as I expected! One little problem though... he called me a "thief" and some other nasty things which really pissies me off! It is completely untrue, if anything, the reverse is true. Anyway, a lawyer friend said this is defamatory and I would probably have a good case for a libel suit since it is clearly not true... he was refunded, and I have the records to prove it! I e-mailed the buyer and told him he has one week to start the process for a mutual feedback withdrawl or my lawyer would be in touch with him! He might continue to be an ass, but once he gets a letter in the mail from a lawyer threatening a lawsuit, I think he'll cave! Of course this is going to cost me some money, but I think it is well worth it. I will still have my pride and the asshole that strung me along for months will not have gotten away with anything! It irritates me to have to spend more money on this whole ordeal, but at least now I won't feel like some chump that got taken advantage of! Score one for me! -
I play with Apple II games all the time. Infact, my IIgs is set up right next to my PC. I love the old sierra games, but mostly I play games like Montezuma's Revenge, Hard Hat Mack, Moon Patrol, etc.

Digital Press Videogames store
Nintendo Penguin replied to JerseyDevil's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I think it is totally awesome that those guys opened up a store! Good for them! I really miss the Reagan Years in back in OC. That place was awesome, but is was more of a classic arcade. -
Are the Super Mario Bros. coin-ops valuable, or is the game in anyway different from the NES Super Mario Bros.? I can get one for $200, but I am not sure I want to spend the money if it is exactly the same game.
-
Anyone have this, play it, or know anything about it? My friends picked it up this week. I might get it, but I am not sure if I would like it. I tend to loose intrest in many MMORPGs pretty quick since they all seems to be alike now.

Classic PC Games? Read On.
Nintendo Penguin replied to classicgamingguy's topic in Classic Console Discussion
The only classic PC games I play are the Sierra adventure games. (King's Quest & SPace Quest) Those are really fun as long as you don't mind a little typing. There were box sets with all the old games released a few years back. Should be able to find them on ebay or maybe in the bargin bin at Frys.
