Oh, now I understand. You must forgive me... I'm new to all of this.
Can this task be performed on a Mac? I downloaded the emulator listed in todays Atari Age news but it doesn't appear to emulate any Atari's at all, & it wouldn't recognize the file you suggested I download

Thanks for the info, but since I'll be performing the music live on stage I'll need to use a real Atari computer... I'm trying to keep my Mac safe at home

I'm considering buying an 800 XL to write music on after hearing the wonderful sounds produced by the electronic group 8-bit construction set (http://beigerecords.com/)... which they claim was created entirely on the above mentioned computer (well, they also use a c64).
Has anyone here been sequencing & generating sounds with the 800XL? What software was / is available & is it possible to sync with other midi gear?
The Synthcart is on its way to my door but I'd also like to see what i could do with the ir 8-bit computers

Since the level of my coding skills ranks way down there with a big "0" I'd imagine it might take quite a long time to learn how to create the game myself. Wish there was a program like Dreamweaver that did it all for ya in the background I am interested in following along with the 2600 programming tutorial mentioned in another topic if it comes to pass, so who knows!
$1000 sounds like a very reasonable price for a custom game, I'll make a more serious offer if the tutorial doesn't go well for me... I'd REALLY like to see this game become a reality!
Thanks for the advce & the enlightenment.

I heard there aren't any 2600 programmers out there who want to make some money designing a commisioned game. Is this true?

Wish I knew how to write code... I've been playing the drums for 25 years & programing beat boxes & cutting up loops for 15

I put my name on Paul's list for those awaiting the Synthcart yesterday I'm REALLY excited about that cart... now I just need to figure out a way to rack mount my extra 2600!

There is a synth already using the Commodore 64 chip:
Elektron's Sidstation (http://www.sidstation.com/)

I promise to post this only once
I'm interested in finding out if it's feasible to commision someone to create a custom 2600 game as a tie-in to my electronic music project. My music relies heavily on sounds sampled & inspired by the 2600 & other golden age video game machines... among the synthesizers I'll be using is Elektron's Sidstation (http://www.sidstation.com/)... which uses a Commodore 64 chip. By the end of the summer I hope to be performing live in the clubs with some of the visuals provided by an Atari Video Music machine.
Anyway, I'd like to have a 2600 game available on the web site as a limited edition to supplement the CD's, T-shirts, etc. which will be available. I have no experience in creating games at all but I'd like to help with the concept, genre, etc.
Am I nuts? Is this idea going to cost me an arm & leg?

Thanks for all the info so far. Sorry for the duplicate posts... I wasn't aware every one read through each category on this forum. Newbies tend fall on their face while learning to walk.

I'm wondering if there are any graphics software which restricts you to creating images similar to those seen in the '70's & '80's video games? I have all of Adobe's current software but I'd really like to work in a low-tech enviornment. Are there any freewares out there you could recomend (Mac prefered but not necessary).
Thanks!

Anyone creating music?

I have a Mac at work & at home. The Mac at home has Virtual PC running Windows 2000... it's kind of quirky but maybe I could get an emulator to run on there. Could you point me to a link where I can download an emulator to run the program you've mentioned?
Was there ever any sequencers or sound creation programs which used the Atari's chip available for the original 800XL back in the day?
