Once again, a nice auction to bid on: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...9&category=3537 Of course, the usual folks wrote the guy and made him offers to end the auction early, so now he's decided not to sell (if he hasn't already sold it to one of you chumps). Why can't you guys leave things alone? What's the point of bidding on stuff when your meddling causes the auctions to just get pulled early? Have a conscience and let the open market get these poor saps the best price for their stuff instead of screwing them.

I was wondering how long it would take you guys to set up an event of your own, being the "nexus" of Atari and all. I'm thrilled to finally have something within driving distance (and in Texas, that's saying something!). The stars at night are big and bright....

OK, so I built this big storage center for my games, but it limits me to about 1000 games. I've now filled it up and have to get rid of some of the label variations I kept if I want to acquire more games. But I can't figure out which ones to keep. Any advice? Sears: Picture vs. Text labels (I could keep text for consistency since almost all have text labels, but the pic's are more rare). Apollo: Multicolor vs. standard blue (consistency vs. color) - but wabbit is only blue, skeet shoot is only colored. USGames: Square cart vs. handle cart - Squeeze box is only square? Entombed is only handle?

You can read the letter that came with it here. The only reference to numbers is "few". http://www.atariage.com/features/atlantis2.html

Not so theoretical. It's happened to me twice. I've been wondering for some time what these were worth so I could trade by spare. By the way, the auction said there are less than 250 of these? I had heard numbers like 10 or 20. Is there anyone who really knows?

I bought one at CGE02. There was a small stack, and that was at the end of the show. So there must be more.

Collecting prototypes carries risk. That's a given. What's worring me now is the growing number of reproductions being sold on ebay. Although the sellers are honest and are disclosing the fact that they are repros, they can (and will) be resold as the genuine thing. And it's often hard to tell what you have without removing the label and opening the cartridge. I fear the value of hard to find games will diminish when their authenticity becomes questioned. Sorry for the sidenote.

Someone seems to be auctioning off Gauntlet for the 2600

What did the bidding get to? Just curious if it was out of my range already. -
Nice eye, dude! It's a '72 Chevelle with a 350. My grandmother bought it new and gave it to me when I hit high school. I've kept in almost show condition despite driving it alot. I was trying to keep the look consitent with the period (it's the same TV I played atari on as a kid). For serious playing, I use the 54-inch downstairs.

I should also mentioned that I was a bit bummed that the Fox games do not fit into the cubes unless you really cram them. So I ended up just letting them stick out.

To answer the questions: 1. The MM cubes were obtained over the last 2 years of collecting. I had alot more than that, but I thought it was big enough already (I was going for quality over quantity). I sold the others last year. 2. Yes, it's oak. The wood alone cost about $400. 3. The whole thing is about 8ft long by 7ft high. 4. The cost of my collection is the net cost from buying and selling. I try to buy low and sell high (as opposed to my stock market experience), but I never buy a lot just to resell it. My goal is to break-even at the same time that I fill the cabinet, though I don't know if I will9 ever shell out hundreds for games like Eli. Thanks for all of the nice comments. I'm new to woodworking, so this was quite the project for me.

I see discussions about "how do you store your games" around once in a while, so I figured I'd show mine. I still have to put doors on it, but since I now have a new baby (our first), it'll probably stay like this for a while. Now some of you may say "How dare you allow games like Malagai to be exposed to the air like that". Well I believe games are for playing, not for sitting in a box. My cabinet fits less than 900 games, which basically limits how many games I can collect. It won't hold every game I'd like to have, but it's a good compromise. I get to display my games, and my wife doesn't have to deal with an out-of-control hobby. Some more pictures: http://home.houston.rr.com/bm/atari/ataricab.html

¡Pd. 4 Thrust 5-02;1 Lawsuit + 18 Months == FINALLY results!

I got mine about 2 months ago. (It's actually #6). So color me satisfied. -
I was saving up to buy a bunch of games from AA, including Euchre, but I don't see it anymore. Is it gone?
-
I'm guessing this has been discussed but I can't figure out where. The Saturday Night Live News had a bit about "Atari" going out of business this week. Given the crummy games being sold under the Atari name, that's not much of a suprise. Anyone have more info?

What's with the flury of activision patches lately? Over the past few years I've seen maybe one every 2 months. There's been dozens in just the past month.

Just curious if anyone knows the guy selling these (among other autographed stuff). I figure the two would have to be buds for him to sign so much stuff. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=2158071516

I hate when people complain about sniping. It's one of many features that have my 4-year ebay experience so enjoyable. Please don't ruin it for us!

so whatch y'all think o the first homebrew console package?
bloatedmonkey replied to Godzilla's topic in Atari 2600
Well, ya gotta admire their zeal. That's alot of words on that page. But my favorite line is: These systems are assembled from scratch by professionals, using only choice quality parts of both new and refurbished origin at our Quality Assurance lab. I'm going to start using that to describe MY garage -
Listed a few more rarities and a bunch of other stuff ...

What is the real rarity of Prototypes/eproms? Underpriced?
bloatedmonkey replied to Joystick Jolter's topic in Atari 2600
Of course, some of us like playing the games more than having them sit in a box. Most of us only go for prototypes of games that were never released. The rest may be suited for a museum, but not for the average person's collection. -
Someone's always got to call the cops on the party. I've gotten a couple negative comments that were slanderous (my favorite is "this guy plays with doo-doo"). But it certainly hasn't ruined my reputation. It's just going to make things harder for us that enjoy the ebay experience.

You're not alone. Andrew, hope you're new Fu Kung project hasn't caused you to forget about us

I posted a picture of a bunch of boxed games I was planning to sell along with some of my auctions, and I got lots of questions about selling them early. So I told everyone to send me offers and I'd consider them. Well, I figured I shouldn't limit it to the few people who wrote me, so if y'all see anything in the picture below that you want to buy, send me an offer. I will only consider offers on individual games (i.e., don't say, "I'll give you $1000 for the lot"). I will not share your offer with anyone else. A few of the games are PAL, but most are NTSC, and all are in working condition. Some of the interesting ones include a few Spectravision games, Racing Pak, MASH shrinkwrapped with MASH t-shirt, and some signed Activision games. http://home.earthlink.net/~ann.brooks/1.html I will make a decision on offers Tuesday afternoon. Thanks.

Anyone notice that Thursday night, the number of 2600 listings more than tripled? It took me two hours to weed through one day's listings. This is starting to look like the old Yahoo auction site - lots of stuff with no bids.
