  1. Is it a fold out poster? Not sure if its a fold out or multiple as I had not opened it… that look's like the fold out poster they were giving away in a contest on Gamespot. It's really cool, when you open it up it folds out and there are pictures of all the enemies. It's a great game. I only picked up a Wii this year and at first I thought it would have a few good games and mostly shovelware, judging from the general feeling I got from reading about it online. While there is a lot of shovelware, I have close to 50 awesome titles (after selling off my PS2 collection :-( ). The problem (from what I can see) is titles like Maramasa are dismissed by most current gamers because of the 2d graphics. There are plenty of great adult titles for the Wii it's just without cutting edge graphics or gamers that are very stuck in their ways and cannot accept a new control method (I can't count how many poor reviews because of the controls and then when I play the game it just takes 1/2 an hour to get used to the method). You would think gamers were open minded, but it's the opposite (in many cases). Then again, I wonder if I were 18 now if I would be the same way :-)
  2. a minor update. I just played through the first level and this game is AWESOME. It is like Ninja Gaiden brought into the future (well the now).
  3. Game looks awesome!!! Comes out in the US tomorrow!!! Awesome 2d graphics, NINJAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Check out some trailers here Anyone else psyched about this one???
  4. I still can't get onto the Nintendo channel. Anyone else having this problem? I even tried removing and re-installing it. Thanks
  5. You need to go into the System menu or whatever it's called and change the output to COMPONENT. Otherwise, like you say, it will do nothing. It's the same place you change the options for how the PS2 displays the PS1 games.
  6. I don't have a PS2 anymore. I do have the component cables, they made a huge difference in games (especially games with text). I thought I would offer them up here if anyone is interested. How about 10 bucks shipped? I'm open to offers. Cable is in mint condition (less than a year old). I will take a picture of it if you want, but it's a cable with a ps2 connector on one side and the component connectors on the other...
  7. there was a Galaga-like game for the Atari 8bit, called Hyperblast! It's fun, but talk about bad sound... if you guys hated the sfx in Atari's Galaxians then you really despise this game, luckily I always listened to music which played much louder than the sfx of my 8bit's games, so it didn't bother me one bit.
  8. did you ever fix your Wii? I've taken apart and reassembled the Wii about 10 times now and I can do it in about 10 minutes. Your problem would be an easy fix. let me know if you still help.
  9. I am having a problem accessing the Wii's Nintendo Channel, I posted this question as a new thread to reach more people. If you live in Connecticut or close by could you give it a click and tell me if you are getting an error message? Thank you very much
  10. thanks for the reply... I googled that earlier and didnt think it applied, but you know, but you are probably right... so my next question is anyone around me have the sam eproblem accessing the Nintendo Channel??? I am in Connecticut.
  11. Hi, sorry to ask so many questions but I dont know where else to go... I am thinking of buying Wii Sports Resort and the motion plus add on, but I only have one controller, a numchuck and the classic controller, so since I could use an extra controller anyway I am wondering if anyone knows if Nintendo is planning to release a controller with the motionplus technology built in. If so, I would rather wait for that to come out and sort of kill two birds with one stone, since I as of now I have a lot to play and don't have a burning desire for the two games that support Motion plus even if I am curious of how the motionplus works.... thanks
  12. Lately whenever I try to connect to the Nintendo channel I get this "error 261412 check your network settings or try again." first it say's "receiving data" then "sending data" then it give's me the error message. The weird thing is, all the other channels work. I've used the Nintendo channel in the past to download some games and the Opera web browser. The Opera web browser works, all the other channels like the news and weather channel update properly, I even updated the firmware and it worked fine... I don't get it. I've never installed any of the software hacks/homebrew channel and all my Wiiware and VC games are legitimate. I do have a hardware mod installed, but all it does is sit between the DVD drive and the motherboard and send a signal when you put a DVDR in telling the Wii it's an official Wii disk. I don't see why it would cause this problem. I can't figure this one out, anyone have any insight?
  13. I know this isn't big news for everyone, but as my nick name implies I am a huge fan of Gauntlet and over the years I've liked Gauntlet style games quite a bit (Alien Breed, Chaos Engine, and more recently Baldurs Gate and Champions of Norath) I really think a game Gauntlet done right would be awesome to have on the DS!!! Recently the engine for Gauntlet was used in GI Joe Rise of the cobra for the DS and it's a very fun game. In fact I am still playing it! BUT yesterday I found out the news: Majesco now has Gauntlet DS and WILL BE RELEASING IN NEXT MONTH!!! Gauntlet DS (unlike GIJOE) uses both screens and at least looks like it ill be awesome! if it is at least as good as Joe we have a fun game to look foward too. I wouldn't be surprised if they mess up the multiplayer ( not sure why, but I have a feeling) but I've always been a loner when it comes to video games, so I don't care. Just thought I would leave a head's up and start a thread for this upcoming release. OFFICIAL NEWS HERE
  14. Pinball Dreams/Fantasies whatever, went on sale a couple days ago for 3 bucks, so I picked it up. It's a pretty good game for the ipod/iphone. I haven't found a game for this platform that really blows me away. It's no substitute for a Nintendo DS, but then as far as APP's go, well there is a ton of great things, so it averages out in the end.
  15. there is a lite version with one ball and one table you can download for free. It's not bad really brings back memories of many hours spent playing on my Amiga 500, but lately I have been using the Nintendo DS for my portable gaming fix. Unrelated, but Amiga fans might notice the famous astronomical software Distant Suns has been converted for the Iphone/Ipod touch and it is awesome. I used it today to get the perfect viewing spot for the Persiod Meteor shower.
  16. me too (love Gauntlet). There has been so much crap games for the NDS especially movie license games that I would of never given it a second look, but I was dying to experience what Gauntlet would of been even in this small way. Maybe it clouded my judgement a little.. They could make a scaled down Baldur's Gate type game with this engine too. I would love to see an official remake of the Amiga game Alien Breed on the DS. Oh well, just a dream but I hope the engine is used and perfected in future games.
  17. So I was waiting and waiting and Gauntlet never came out for the Ds, but then this game GI Joe Rise of the imperfects which is based on a movie that doesn't look so good came out. It's the Gauntlet engine re-worked for the game, but the game is fun! The controls (especially the tank part) takes a bit of getting the hang of, but the game itself is fun and if you liked Gauntlet, Alien Breed, Chaos Engine, anything like that with maybe a little cannon fodder or ikari warriors thrown in, this is not a bad game! 18. I noticed this and as a one time Amiga addict I loved Pinball Fantasies, but how do you control the flippers? If it somehow involves tilting the iphone/ipod touch I'm out.
  19. The headphone jack on my trusty 4 yr old iPod Video went bad last week. Apple told me they could fix it for 139 + shipping (yea thanks...), so after debating for a couple days I took the plunge and bought myself a brand spanking new iPod Touch. Sure, all I really needed was something to play music and occasionally watch a movie, but I couldn't resist... it's pretty cool and does lots of things I will probably rarely use but it sure does look cool. Anyway, I know there are tons of games for this any recommendations for a fellow retro gamer? I like new games too, but I tend to go less for puzzlers and more action/arcade/adventure rpg (but not so much the crazy japanese rpgs), first and third person shooters, platformers all are what I like. I have a DS lite and GBA, but I know there must be at least a handful of great games for this platform by now??? thanks!!!
  20. Hi I recently picked up a Wii and immediately ordered a Mod chip for it. It's the best mod chip you can buy for the Wii. It's called the Wasabi Zero and it is so easy to install. I just installed it this evening. Unfortunately when I tested it the inicator light blinked the wrong caller, I looked up the problem and it turns out "a small percentage of compatible drives are actually incompatible" yea I know lucky me I fall into that percentage. Anyway, the chip is obviously in mint condition and I can help you in any way you might need to install it. I will sell it for the same price I paid since I just want to get the money I put into it to go towards a different (and not as good... ) but a chip that I know will work with my odd ball Wii. I paid 25 dollars, comes with chip and the clip to mount it, plus the tri wing Nintendo screwdriver to open the Wii (which is also very easy btw). I will charge 5 dollars shipping (mine was more but I ordered it from outside the US). I will guarantee it 100% or your money back obviously it's already been tested, but just to give you piece of mind. more info about WASABI ZERO here: LINK also HERE If you need help determining if it will work with your Wii or you want to buy it, PM me.. If no one is interested I will try to return it in a few days.
  21. I've had a Wii for less than a week, but already I love the Wii Ware I've tried. Bit Trip Beat and to a lesser extent Bit Trip Core are awesome, maybe you need to have a retro streak to enjoy them, but if you do they are totally worth it. I downloaded Onslaught when I first got the Wii, again another old school styled game but this time a FPS. I wouldn't recommend it unless like me you have no physical media to play, but today I downloaded Alien Crush Returns, another awesome game. I guess loving the original on the TG-16 when I was a kid, and loving video game pinball in general helps, but there is no denying it is a good game. Maybe because I don't have a Xbox 360 I don't know what I am missing in comparison, but so far I think the Wii Ware is pretty cool. I look forward to trying more.
  22. At-once was an Amiga add-on that plugged into the 68000 socket. I never owned one, but I think it let your Amiga emulate a 286, but using the Amiga for the graphics slowed things down too much for most games. It was mostly useful for running application software. There were similar products for the ST, but I don't think they were any faster.
  23. You know I happened to check Craiglist today and someone is offering a Wii at the same price with original box in mint condition, just my luck! That aside, I had a lot of fun playing around with my new toy today. I took the three games to Gamestop and got 10 dollars off Super Mario Galaxy, I'm sure this is old news to you guys, but the game is really fun once I got used to the controls. It really brings me back to the days when Mario 64 was new... Still I can only take so much of that type of game, so off I went to the Nintendo's virtual store... I found the retro game selection pretty good, but the games that I really wanted to have (Castlevania for the Turbo Grafx for example) weren't there. I guess it's not designed for people that have the actual systems and games still.. I did download the Super Mario Brothers for the NES, since it will be convenient to have that old favorite on my wii and I wanted a classic controller compat game, so I would have somethign to test my controller out with. It was disappointing that Donkey Kong is the NES version, I mean I understand how someone would like to have the console version (I would love to have the Atari 800 version) but why not offer the arcade original??!?? It's still a Nintendo game, geesh, same thing for Galaga and Pac Man, so that is out. I wish they had Atari games on there, what is holding Atari back I wonder? I was overwhelmed by all the WiiWare games, anyone have any suggestions? I did download Onslaught so I would have FPS until I get Conduit and Metroid Prime, and it's okay but I have a hard time with controls so I probably need to get used to it. I also downloaded the Internet channel, so when I have this thing set up in my family room area I can browse the net on the wide screen, not sure why but it seems like a cool thing to be able to do. thanks again for all the advice, it made the deal go down much easier and eased my mind regarding the system. I consider myself a hardcore gamer and most people would probably agree but I don't see why people are so down on the Wii, it seem's like I will have a lot of fun with this console, even if it doesn't exactly fit the bill as the be all end all console. In short it's fun, but I still see myself getting a 360 or PS3 sometime. Any suggestions regarding Wii ware would be appreciated, there is just too much on there and it's too bad they don't have videos of the Wii Ware games instead of just short write ups which are fairly useless.
