  1. The newer F200 does support SDHC. I think this was added in the newer firmware. As far as I know, most F100's are running 2.x or 3.x which probably doesn't support SDHC. --Zero Thanks Zero I couldn't ask for a better reply!!!! I think you sold me on the PSP, for my uses it will probably be the best bang for my buck.
  2. If you think Shadow 1 pushes the limits of the original Amiga chipset, check out SOTB 2 and 3.
  3. Shadow of the Beast games are not a fair comparison. It was designed from ground up to show off the capabilities of the Amiga. They are comparable systems and both platforms have games that out do the other but even though I like them equally the Amiga had better hardware for gaming and in the end had the edge in gaming (for a while over any other mainstream system!).
  4. I agree, Donkey Kong could of been a lot better, but it is still fun to play. Why so negative anyway? They should of made a top 10 best arcade to 2600 conversions.
  5. Neither version adheres to the arcade close enough for my liking. I think all the special effects tend to get in the way. Beautiful GFX effext, no doubt, but save them for IN BETWEEN levels so I can play the game. Nothing is more aggravating than getting blown up because the "1 UP" totally blinded you! Thanks for nothing guys! Interesting point of view. Personally I love tempest 2k on the Jag. I've always kept a copy of a Jag emulator and t2k on every computer I've owned since selling my Jaguar years ago, because I zone out in the game and it is a great escape. Typhoon is great is because I've become pretty good on T2k even when I dont play it for months I can play for hours.... I suck at typhoon 2001 it's harder and the timing is totally different from the Jag game... which is good because it's like something old and something new for me. Also I love the new web effects. No need to install Project Tempest on this computer. One thing I don't understand is why since he rips off the music etc.. didn't he rip off all the sounds? Also why change the look of some of the enemies? Like the smiling thing.
  6. as a long time t2k fan I was skeptical, but I installed this on my laptop and it's a lot of fun. It's different enough from t2k that it feels somewhat new while also feeling familiar. The one thing I don't understand, he copies everything else from the Jaguar game, why doesn't he use the right voices instead of the generic voice he uses?
  7. I dont think the GBA is capable of emulating a Lynx. Maybe a DS could, but it would probably only run at full speed if you made sacrifices like lots of skipped frames, no sound etc...
  8. Which is a better system? Taking into account emulators and new games? thanks
  9. I've been looking into this Gp2x f200 handheld. It seem's like it would be the perfect little game system for me. I have some concerns, though, because of my experience with emulators in the past. I love the idea of carrying around a handheld that can play SNES, Amiga, ST, Genesis, Gameboy, NES, etc.. games but can it play all those games at full speed? For example I have no interest in playing Shadow of the Beast (amiga) at a low frame rate. Also how compatible are these emulators and how developed are they? I know on the PC and Mac there are emulators for the SNES and Atari 800 that are perfect emulations (as perfect as emilation can be) as a collector of classic systems I realize an emulator is not as good as the real thing, but it is compelling to carry around all those fun games in one little system. Also I don't have room to collect Amiga, ST, or arcade machines so this would be a substitute. How good are the Quake and any other FPS shooters fior this too? Any experience or advice or advice someone could give me would be appreciated. I am debating with myself whether to get this or a PSP, since they are close in price. As far as other features: I already have a laptop and video iPod so I am not really interested in using it for video's, music or as a portable computer beyond maybe an address book type thing.
  10. I have a Gamebouy color but one thing that bugs me is it's non-backlit screen which forces me to hold it at weird angles when I play in some places. I see there are 3 different lights widely available for it: 1. Worm light, this is a flexible light that you can aim at the screen. 2. Light/magnifier thing, this one magnifies the screen and and lights it up 3. blob light thing, this looks like a monster but uses dispersed white light to help eliminate glare, I am thinking this is the best one, but I don't really have any idea anyone know?
  11. How is it dealing with the tiny screen? I was considering buying a gaming laptop, but I realise now they are just too expensive so I am looking at the Apple Macbook, but if I could get something that does everything I want for under 500 dollars!!!! That would be really cool. The only problem I have with the Asus (never seen one in real life) is the screen sounds like it might be too small. I'm interested in how you deal with that?
  12. Basically it comes down to this... the more I think about it if I'm going to spend all this money I should either get the HP with the all the extra's including the gfx card or get a Macbook and forget about games. If the HP laptop isn't going to give me much enjoyment in the game category (if every fps is gonna run at reduced frame rate etc..) then why torture myself with a pc/windows?? Then again if it will run these games and I can probably install Linux on it as well then the HP might be the way to go. I get the feeling from your post that the 8400GS is still gonna be kinda lacking in the gfx department. Another point for the Macintosh is that 2/3 years down the road if I to sell it, the Macbook will still be worth something while the pc regardless of specs will be worth less than half of what I paid. Apple makes great notebooks but why oh why do they need to cost so much? I'm not sure I would want a 2500 dollar notebook anyway!!! As cool as they are I would be afraid it would get broken or stolen.
  13. First of all to all of you that recommended I build a desktop PC. For years since the end of the Amiga in 94 actually I built pc's and upgraded gfx cards, but when I started using Mac's as my main computer (when they switched to Intel) I gave up on that world. I am (of course) a retro gamer who has a 2600, SNES, and N64 but I like modern games too and to be honest I don't crazy over emulation (except AtariMacOSX, jag emulator for t2k and using them to preview games I am bidding on) Im happy with my iMac and like the idea of leaving games to gaming machines (altho I have Quake 4,III, Hitman contracts, and some racing games installed) . That doesnt mean I dont want to play pc games it's just not my first priority for getting a laptop. I figured for the price of the lowest end Macbook I could custom order an HP laptop with a GeForce 8400M GS integrated graphics card, 2.2 ghz core 2 duo, 250 mb hard drive and 3 gigs of memory. I still really like the way Mac's look and feel (OS X), so if this HP won't let me play games then I would probably be happier with a Macbook (unfortunately I can't afford a Macbook pro which would be the ideal choice for me) or whatever HP/Toshiba model is on sale that week with integrated gfx (tend to go for 650-750 after rebates). I still can't decide but am I right in thinking (from the posts) that if I did get a laptop with the Geforce in it I would be able to play any pc game out there at a reasonable framrate? I realize games may come out this summer that my laptop will choke on, but if it can run everything up to now that leaves me with a lot of games to play!!! The worst thing for me is going back to Windows. I really dont like Vista much...
  14. I realize I would need to add some more money to my check, but starting off with almost a 1000 dollars makes it a lot easier to justify the expense. The Alienware notebooks are great but they start at 1700 dollars which is out of my price range.
  15. I am gettting a check from the IRS for almost a thousand dollars, so I think this month might be a good time to get a notebook computer. I use a Intel iMac as my desktop, but the only Mac laptop within my budget is a Macbook which has integrated graphics and won't be useful for gaming. I am torn between 1. buying a cheap windows laptop (probably HP Pavillion or Toshiba) that is onsale and dealing with the fact most games probably won't run on this machine 2. buying a decked out HP for around 1100 or 1200 with a dedicated gfx chip which will run games (to what degree I have no idea) or spending the same amount for a Macbook which although I like OSX and know I will probablty be happier with a Macbook than a cheap pc laptop it won't be any better at running games than a pc at 1/3 the price. I want to know if spending the extra money on a pc laptop that has a gfx card is worth it. Will I be able to reasonably use this laptop to run games or would I be disappointed anyway and maybe I should just go for a notebook that can do all the other things you expect a notebook to do (word pro, web browsing, emulation, video chatting etc..) and use the extra money to buy a PSP?
  16. I wouldn't recommend Western Union as this is one of the scam tactics of Nigerian scammers. Also, I didn't think Cylons would have use for money. It's not like you are a skinjob that can pass for human. You are a walking toaster. Is this some Cylon conspiracy? We need money to keep our bodies oiled and replace our 8bit voice synthesizer chip's every few years.
  17. I had the same problem with a 130xe. I sold it online and it worked fine, when it got to the buyer he complained the colors were off. I suggested he open the case and adjust the potentiometer andthat did the trick. Apparently with some Atari's the trauma of shipping the machine can cause the colors go off like that... thankfully it is an easy fix.
  18. I'm from the US and my tv and SNES are both NTSC, so take this for what it's worth. You probably have the rf cable, get the composite (3 rca cables on one side) or if you buy a new one from Ebay you will get it with a composite and SVIDEO then plug this into your LCD television. I had my SNES plugged into the widescreen LCD last night and it looked great (although noticeably darker than my CRT, so I had to turn up the brightness) through the composite cables. Infact I don't think it could look any better than it did. What I'm wondering is if there is some kind of timing difference, like maybe a millisecond difference in display updates when you use a lcd, because I could of sworn my timing was off on Super Mario World compared to when I normally play it on my old CRT tv. Maybe I was just tired.
  19. No one mentioned Quasimodo, that game along with Alley Cat, Shamus, Blue Max, and Spelunker probably got the most of play in my old Atari 48k 400.
  20. I recently picked up Tetris Sphere for the N64. I was reading up on it when I discovered it was originally supposed to be a game for the Atari Jaguar and a playable prototype called Fear was shown at the Atari booth at CES. So the story goes, Nintendo was impressed with the game and bought the exclusive rights. They went back to the drawing board and improved on initial concept. A year or so later Nintendo released it as "Tetris Sphere" for the N64. I'm wondering if anyone has ever seen or played the early Jag version of the game?
  21. A couple months ago I sold an old TRS-80 computer to a guy in Australia on Ebay. I could not take PayPal at that time and he sent me a Western Union payment instead. It was fast (within an hour I went down the street to the grocery store and picked up my money) but it cost him ALOT of money, infact almost as much as the shipping! In the end, he substantially more for shipping and WU than the TRS-80 itself. Western Union is only good (IMO) if you are stuck someplace and got robbed or need a friend/relative to send you money quick for an emergency.
  22. guess that means you don't remember how to get past the portal? I don't understand why you give it such a bad review (ac-lame... lol) Maybe you don't like games like this? Maybe the Dreamcast version is not as playable as the N64 one? It's pretty fun so far, and fairly linear, I havent got lost for more than a minute or so... I would give it at least a 7 or 8 but I like adventure games even if I do get kinda fustrated at the puzzles (like how to get past this damn part!!!) I'm only like 20 mins into the game!!!
  23. A friend at work gave me this cart and it's really fun like a cross between Tomb Raider and Resident Evil. Anyway I've made it to this portal or whatever (see pic) how do I get inside? I know I could cheat and probably find a walkthru but I don't want the whole game given away... so if anyone could just push me in the right direction with a hint??? THANKS!!! Also any opinions about this N64 game?
  24. I went to "computer camp" for a couple weeks in the early 80's it is was at a private high school campus, but I was about 10/11 at the time. They had 2 Atari 800's, a 400, a CoCo, a commodore vic 20, 4 or 5 Apple ]['s (e's and +'s) and a Hero robot in their computer lab. Back then they had one of the most state of the art computer labs around. Don't feel bad. At least you guys had Atari 400's and Apple II's!! By the time I made it to my local high school our computer lab in the late 80's was still chugging away on TRS80 Model 3's and cassette drives!!!!! Kev
  25. So will a NES power supply work with a SNES? If this is so, then I should be able to use a Atari 1050 disk drive power supply and or A400 power supply with the SNES (since I understand these workwith the NES) I know I have one or the other around here someplace. I really want to test this thing before I go buying power supplies if there is a realistic way I can.
