questions about COLECOVISION and ADAM computer...
Psionic replied to lucifershalo's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Ole Nielsen's excellent Danish ColecoVision site: http://www.colecovision.dk/ http://home1.stofanet.dk/oleprivat/coleco.html ColecoNation newsletter: http://www.coleconation.com/ ColecoVison Player's Resource (has screenshots of every game): http://home.comcast.net/~mycoleco/cv.htm ColecoVison reviews: http://www.lakupo.com/grblitz/colex1.htm http://www.videogamecritic.net/coleco.htm http://www.thelogbook.com/phosphor/coleco/ Other sites: http://www.mobygames.com/browse/games/colecovision/ http://www.opcodegames.com/ Hope that helps! -
Antarctic Adventure and Cabbage Patch Kids for ColecoVision exist in two ROM variants: http://home.comcast.net/~mycoleco/romc06.htm http://home.comcast.net/~mycoleco/romc01.htm The above pages show the released Coleco ROM variants on the left and the unreleased Konami "prototype" ROM variants on the right. So what's the problem? I never noticed it before, but my copy of Cabbage Patch Kids (standard issue, not a proto) has the Konami "prototype" ROM variant. Is this normal? Does anyone else have this on their cartridge? My Antarctic Adventure cart has the proper Coleco ROM version, but the Cabbage Patch Kids perplexes me. What's really odd is that the Cabbage Patch Kids game box appears to show screenshots from both versions of the game. Do cartridges exist in both versions?

A pic would be nice, but judging by your description, I have no doubt of its authenticity. That's a cool find. As you said, Coleco protos are more uncommon than Atari ones, but that could be said of just about everything Coleco in relation to Atari. There are also far fewer Coleco collectors as well, so as far as dollar value, I really don't know for sure...but I wouldn't expect anything huge unless its a version that was different from the released version (which is doubtful if it's anything like the Atari 2600 MDC proto that was discovered). Do you have a working ColecoVision to test it on? I don't usually collect protos, but I'm a big fan of Mr. Do!, so I might be somewhat interested in this one, but someone else will probably offer you more than I'm going to (if you're going to sell it). It's not clear who exactly did what as far as the game design is concerned. Tempest and I discussed this briefly in another thread recently: http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=109291 The game was indeed released in June '84. Coleco had ceased producing new games by then, but the game would have been in development far earlier, so I really don't know what the story was.

I am looking for a complete in box copy of Mr. Do! for the original Game Boy. PM if you have one and are interested in selling. Thanks.

IIRC, the version of Wolfenstein 3D for Jaguar was a special version that was completely redesigned and enhanced from the original PC version, whereas Doom was more of a straight-up port of the PC version. If you've never played the original PC versions of Wolfenstein and Doom, I can assure you that Wolfenstein is just as pixelated as Doom (if not more).

I hate that....Pitfall was the same way. They are hard to find...I don't have any of them. Like most 3rd party CV titles, loose carts can occasionally be found but they're very hard to find complete in box. I don't think I've ever even seen a CIB copy of Dragonfire.

There's one up there now: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...p;rd=1&rd=1

Yeah but Dig Dug makes up for it...in it's original aspect ratio no less.

Well, if it isnt, it's in the top two.

Best arcade conversions on the Gameboy Color
Psionic replied to Spector's topic in Classic Console Discussion
It's a pretty good conversion...yes, it can be played in either zoom or full screen mode. It also includes Super Pac-Man as a bonus (which you may or may not be a fan of). If you're looking for arcade hits on the Game Boy, I've always been a fan of Nintendo's Qix for the original Game Boy, and of course Donkey Kong '94 if you want to count that. -
Yeah, Leo Fender sold the company to CBS in 1965 and they remained under CBS ownership until 1985. "Pre-CBS" Fender instruments (model year 1964 and earlier) are considered to be the highest quality and are thus highly valued by collectors and enthusiasts. The early CBS-era instruments aren't too bad, but they got worse as time went on. Fortunately no, Les Moonves wasn't at CBS in 1984...meaning your guitar was probably put together by Andy Rooney...and then Dan Rather played it just to make sure it sounded okay.

South-American ColecoVision games?
Psionic replied to Pixelboy's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I've been wondering about those myself...that guy from Argentina has been listing a few lately for $50 apiece (that one you linked to has now been raised to $100). There's also an Argentinean CBS Time Pilot for $50 (which is trashed). I have no idea what the combo carts are, but they look like pirate junk. If they're anything original, I can't imagine them being of any decent quality. I'd ask the seller, but it doesn't look like his English is very good and I don't speak Spanish. Oh well. -
Yes, it was...CBS Inc. (Columbia Broadcasting) has dabbled in nearly everything over the years - television (CBS Network), radio (CBS Radio), music (the old Columbia/CBS Records, now owned by Sony Music), musical instruments (CBS owned Fender Guitars from 1965 to 1985), and yes, even video games (CBS Electronics). CBS Electronics not only produced some titles for the Atari 2600 & 5200, they also marketed and distributed the ColecoVision system and games by Coleco in Europe, Australia, and elsewhere. BTW, there's been threads about this in the past: http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=82349 http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=89037

How much $$ should I sell these games for?
Psionic replied to atari_2600's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
You can expect $10-$15 for Miner 2049er and maybe $40 or so for Miner 2049er Volume II. I'm not sure about Master Builder...but if you expect to sell games, don't expect anyone here to tell you what stuff is worth. -

how come atari "redistributes" some 3rd party titles?
Psionic replied to lucifershalo's topic in Atari 2600
That's interesting Tempest...I always wondered why Coleco did Mr. Do! but Parker Brothers did Mr. Do!'s Castle...that makes sense. I'm not sure about Frogger and Q*bert though...if Coleco did those, did they do Frogger II and Q*bert's Qubes as well? -
Added! Thanks. PM sent.

Weren't Super Pac-Man, Jr. Pac-Man and Pac & Pal (speaking of games with no home port) all unauthorized originally?

Dual Language (Eng/French) Colecovision?
Psionic replied to SRGilbert's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Yeah, I 've seen those. I've seen people try to sell complete carts with the unused stickers for alot...nobody cares though...I don't need my Donkey Kong cartridge to speak French. -
Seriously...I don't understand why people would even care about this. You're basically paying for a box. This is something that if you came across one, yeah it's a cool find and nice to have in your collection (I guess), but I can't imagine paying any significant amount of money for it (let alone $100). Knowing this hobby and the way people hoard stuff, I'm sure the first person who saw them on the Jack Berg site who knew they were rare probably bought them all and has them sitting in a box in his closet collecting dust. Good luck Murph...
-
Well, Atari dropped the ball there...unfortunately it's probably because they were greedy and wanted people to buy Pac-Man separately...bad marketing move.

Dual Language (Eng/French) Colecovision?
Psionic replied to SRGilbert's topic in Classic Console Discussion
The AC is a plus, but that's probably where the positives end. The Canadian versions are indeed more rare, but fewer collectors are interested in them generally (in my experience, many American collectors tend to avoid the Canadian stuff). You probably will get just as much for a working Canadian system as an American one however, but I certainly wouldn't expect to get more. -
::BUMP:: I've added more items and some more pictures. More coming soon.
