Explain this, please. Exactly how did Tramiel kill Commodore? Did he sneak back into Commodore head offices and blow up the blueprints and chipsets for the C65 in 1992? Did he engineer Commodore's ill-thought out foray into console gaming? Was he the mind behind Commodore's "business line" of PC clones? He's certainly not my favourite computer pioneer, but I just don't get the hate for him. That's true...Tramiel was actually forced out of Commodore well before it died...it's just fun to blame Jack Tramiel for this, like it is to blame him for everything else (killing Atari, ending the Swordquest contest and keeping the prizes for himself, etc.)...he's just a bastard.

Smurf Rescue is great. I can't believe that it made #6 on PC World's list of The 10 Worst Games of all time: http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,127579-p...es/article.html Those guys are idiots. (E.T., Custer's Revenge, and Pac-Man for the 2600 also made the list.) Anyway...has anybody ever played either of the Smurf games for PlayStation? (made by Infogrames, incidentally)

Colecovision High-Score-Club: Post your scores here!
Psionic replied to Mister VCS's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I have a list of my ColecoVision high scores somewhere. I'll have to see if I can find it. In the meantime, Ole Nielsen ("ten-four" here at AtariAge) has a page of high scores on his Danish ColecoVison site: http://www.colecovision.dk/highscore.htm -
That's exactly what I was thinking. Boo.

I can't believe it's not Brain Age!
Psionic replied to Jess Ragan's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Quick...tell Atari to get working on a sequel to Basic Math/Fun With Numbers. It'll surely resurrect them. -
Website with 50 international Atari Commercials (Danish)
Psionic replied to JacobZu7zu7's topic in Atari 2600
Yeah, that's a cool site. Fed! -
You have a very generous roommate.

Tempest is your favourite Magic: the Gathering expansion, right?
-
Yes, the ones we were selling had nice, glossy Atarisoft-style labels. I still have a few of those if anyone is interested. ..Al Pic?

Yes, power switch (and power supply) problems are very common. The standard controllers aren't so great, but they're not as bad as everyone says they are. You can use several substitutes for most games that only use one of the action buttons, however (SMS/Genesis control pad, Atari 2600 joystick). I've never played any of the clones, but like most clones I've heard they're junk...I'd avoid. I'm sure there were some incompatibilities with Expansion Module #1, but I don't remember off hand. The EM #1 is a nice item to have, but if you're going to spend any significant amount of time playing Atari 2600 games, just stick with a VCS (ditto for using the Supercharger). If you can find a ColecoVison unit that works reasonably well in the wild, consider yourself lucky. The console is just too fragile to use for playing Atari games for any extended period...I'd only use it when you must (to play CV games).

You don't even have to do that...just approach him, kneel, and quickly throw leg sweeps repeatedly...he'll keep running into your low kicks until he dies. Too easy.

Kung Fu is short, easy, and somewhat corny (I love how the bosses laugh at you when you die), but it's still fun to play through occasionally. Mr. X is way too easy though (especially using the cheat).

Space Invaders Collection 2nd edition (ColecoVision)
Psionic replied to opcode's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I'd take a Space Invaders if you do another run. -
NES-Mike Tyson Punch-out question.
Psionic replied to Schmead55's topic in Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) / Famicom
I always found dodging to the left to be easiest and most effective. Once you learn how to dodge that, he's really very easy. Tyson is another story... -
Why no Nintendo Disk System in America?
Psionic replied to pocketmego's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Well, the save feature was included in the cart (Save and Load options) but it obviously doesn't work because they opted not to include battery backup. There was at least one other early NES game that was the same way (I believe it was Wrecking Crew). Most of the FDS games that had disk-save backup used passwords when they were converted to cartridge (except Zelda and Zelda II). I can only assume this was a cost-cutting measure on Nintendo's part. Too bad. -
NES-Mike Tyson Punch-out question.
Psionic replied to Schmead55's topic in Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) / Famicom
It's different every time, anywhere from 5-15 times I think. -
Why no Nintendo Disk System in America?
Psionic replied to pocketmego's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Exactly. Couldn't have said it better myself, Proto Man. I would also add that given the general unreliability of the Disk System and its disks (broken drive belts and corrupt disks are very common), you should be happy that Nintendo never released them in America. -
Balloon Kid, Donkey Kong, Qix and Solar Striker are some of my old favorites. If you like puzzle games, Dr. Mario, Tetris 2, Yoshi and a game called Daedalean Opus (a.k.a. Puzzle Road) are some that you might want to track down.

Yes, I love how endless waves of zombies and wolves attack you, how Jason lives in a cave, and how the camp counselors are always taking vitamins to heal themselves, just like in the movie. Seriously...it's definitely closer to the movie than most of LJN's other efforts (Back To The Future), but it still sucks. At least Halloween is actually fun to play.
-
You've got that right. I never played Oink! until Activision Anthology (fortunately). It's terrible.
-
I'm guessing that's why the ColecoVision power supply was so big as well?
-
Also... http://www.coleconation.com/ http://www.colecovision.dk/ (Danish page - under construction) http://www.videogamecritic.net/coleco.htm http://www.mobygames.com/browse/games/colecovision/ Have fun.

Nolan Bushnell Signature Series Atari 7800 Console on eBay!
Psionic replied to Albert's topic in Atari 7800
Neat, I suppose...but it would have made more sense to do a 'signature edition' of a console that was actually produced during the Bushnell era... -
That is true, but you do call the anus the "asshole" even though you're referring to the ring around the hole as opposed to the hole itself. OWNED! By the way, I hate doughnuts...I prefer Danish pastry. Anyway...back on topic....atari2600land, just go to an electronics shop (Radio Shack) and get the smallest soldering iron and lightest gauge solder you can find (made for electronics). Otherwise you will make a mess. Shouldn't cost more than $15-$20 for both.
