Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A
KevinMos3 replied to Tommy Tallarico's topic in Intellivision Amico
That email got me to bite. I got the PayPal receipt email, but I couldn’t find any way to track it on the website. I hope to get a confirmation email from Intellivision as well. -
Bet on Collectorvision club's 2020 secret game?
KevinMos3 replied to youki's topic in CollectorVision
I consider it unfortunately unplayable. It was a game I was looking forward to so much, but after receiving it, it became my most hated game because it had SO much potential but the collision detection took away ALL the fun. At first I thought it might be my controller, but after trying many, including a modded NES pad and even more recently the NTT controller with the Phoenix, there’s no denying it’s just got terrible collision detection. The ladders can be so difficult to get on/off. Almost every time I die, I feel like it’s not a poor decision on my part, but that I couldn’t move properly. My wife also feels the same (she was excited by the screenshots, but dismayed by the gameplay). For the longest time, I kept giving it another chance. thinking maybe with yet another type of controller, or maybe it was just my imagination that it was so bad... but every time I try again, I walk away with so much frustration and anger. It’s weird because this game gets me more angry than almost any other game I can think of. Again, I think it’s because it has so much potential that could have been fixed if testers were a little more honest instead of being so accepting of the flaws in the collision detection. (I know this may offend some, but it’s not my intention). I also hoped there would be more ppl who would speak up about it and maybe it could be fixed and those who wanted could send the cart in for a replacement at a nominal charge or something. But it seemed most of the community is overly uncritical of homebrews. That’s also why I’ve been hesitant to express how I really feel about it until now. I really don’t like criticizing something a small developer / fellow AA member programmed. So, sorry, but I really really hate this game and plead for an update to fix it (without charging us for a whole new game). As for the topic at hand... I have no guesses about what the 2020 game may be. I just saw these Bagman posts and had to finally speak up. I love you all! -
Yeah, the 3D prints I tried so far did not turn out in a way I would be satisfied with at all. Also, the library where I was printing them is underground, so when the weather got colder and rain more frequent, it made any 3D prints other than tiny ones impossible for now, due to the humidity. As an example, I tried several times to print a shell for a retrotink (which is smaller than a 2600/7800 shell). It wouldn't even print that without major warping. I'll give it another go when the weather warms back up and that building is less humid.

I've beaten it MANY times, but NEVER with 2 players. I either need some new friends, or a time machine. I'd love to see a hack that adds the option to select a face-off from the title screen. The idea of making a 2-player one-on-one fighting game out of it is very interesting as well.

Just missed the edit timeout for my last post... I re-flashed my Retron77 and the paddle is working again. My apologies for the previous pre-mature post.
-
The paddle on mine quit working already. Only used it about 4 times. Correction: It quit working on the Retron 77. Still works on real hardware. Still extremely frustrating, since I got it mainly for the Retron 77.

I don't understand how you reach that conclusion. They pretty much say "post code and we'll help", albeit in a more abrasive manner, and you say "OK, I'll stop doing Jaguar stuff."

Flashback 9 Gold paddle issue
KevinMos3 replied to atari-kev's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
I've never noticed any audio lag on the Flashback 9s that I have. I modded 2 of my Flashback 9s (a Gold and a standard) by swapping out the resistors in the system. The paddles didn't work as well as I'd hoped, but it was playable with games like Circus Atari, Warlords, and some of the others. It seems to rely on a checksum match to know when to use paddles though. I couldn't get it to work with hacks or homebrew paddle games. The main issue I have is that it takes the full range of the paddles. That makes some games harder to play. The lag isn't bad, but you can definitely feel it in a game like Kaboom. It's playable, but you'll start having a hard time keeping up before it reaches maximum speed. I've felt that way every time I've used Stella with paddles though, regardless of the system. There's just no comparison to the real thing and a CRT. -
Here you go. I didn't check to see if there are any other references that need changed, but from the 20 seconds I last when I play, the wall color is at offset 0x3510 and the player hair is at 0x3578. gb2 new edit.bin

I recently used your custom firmware for the 2018 model and noticed I couldn't add coins with the "Down+Start" anymore. I was going to ask about this in case there was something I was missing, but I see you've already posted about it. Do you know if there is any way to fix this issue, or is it broken unless AtGames addresses it?

Yes, they just won't last as long.

It's you. 😜

I must have uploaded my old hacks somewhere, because they're in Trebor's homebrew pack. But, I don't see them in a thread title, (I probably didn't think they were worth a thread or maybe I wanted to do more to it... I know I was going to replace the title screen but haven't gotten around to it). Anyway, here are 3 versions: one with Louie sprite edits and some colors tweaked, one with unlimited lives done by someone else (sorry I don't remember who, unless I used the MESS cheat file to patch the rom... I know I did that with some games, but I think someone else did this one), and one with the two combined. I included a text file with the Prosystem.dat additions. Just copy/paste the content of that file into your own Prosystem.dat (not needed if you use MAME or MESS). Scrapyard_Dog_Hacks.zip So if you want to mess around with it yourself, you can see where I edited the rom for Louie. Or you can wait for me to get around to it later.
-
Yes. I did a hack of Scrapyard Dog four or five years ago. It changed Louie to look more like the Lynx version and tweaked the colors a tad. I don't know if I ever uploaded it though. Putting in Scraps would be pretty easy if all the sprites met the current Louie dimensions. I don't currently have this laptop set up to do any 7800 hacking. I'm currently away for the holidays and my other laptop is back home. Prosystem would also need its database updated with the new hacked rom md5 to play properly. MESS/MAME doesn't care though.

Lawnmower by OCEO - Silly Venture 2019 entry for Atari Lynx Game Compo
KevinMos3 replied to Nop90's topic in Atari Lynx
Awesome. I'm excited for this. -
I really like the way you're using the 2600 assets in this -- creative and artistic methods to give some really nice perspectives. The batting/pitching screen reminds me a little of Pete Rose Baseball which is still my favorite baseball game ever (both 2600 and 7800 versions).
-
I have not. If I remember correctly, I think Game Gear carts are every bit as wide as Lynx carts, but thicker. These fit the Lynx carts pretty snug, so anything larger or thicker wouldn't fit. I don't have my Game Gear carts with me right now to check (away from home for the holidays).

That guy is selling a box for "Alone in the Dark" for the Jaguar. It has text on the back from Battlesphere and the bee logo from CJ's ST ports. A little convoluted mix-mash, but I hadn't heard of Alone in the Dark being ported to the Jag. Also hadn't heard of an Atari ST version, so the bee logo didn't make sense to me either. I'm assuming this box is just some wishful thinking, but is it actually based on a port that I missed?
-
Just my opinion, but yes, I think that looks much better.
-
Another very cool game. Two questions, (2nd one just aesthetic). 1). Can you make a portable compatible version? Both players would also have to use joystick one, of course. 2). Could some alignment be tweaked so the end of the table lines up a bit better with the legs? I understand as it currently is, the playfield will reflect at the edge of the screen as well, but I'm not sure if there is a way to make it look like the edit on the right without major changes or breaking something.

This is one way to keep/display your carts. Works great in a binder. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07V1H596R/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 And here's what they look like with carts in them:

Atari Flashback 10 Gold
KevinMos3 replied to Intellivision Master's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
They’ll have to add those features before I’ll buy another. I’d love to add a custom USB port to where the faux cartridge slot is on the FB X. But I’m going to resist any temptation to get one until they have what I previously mentioned — especially since the same emulator is used as the 9. I’m happy with my FB 9 Gold. -
Atari Flashback 10 Gold
KevinMos3 replied to Intellivision Master's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
There are still 2 glaring omissions this year that need to be addressed. 1) They still haven’t incorporated a Color/BW switch that would be needed for several games (the existing method of holding Select+Up is not persistent and so does not work properly with much other than Secret Quest. Now that they have those nice switches, there is ample room for a Color/BW switch. 2) A 4:3 - 16:9 switch somewhere on the console or in software. It would be nice to use these with old TVs as well as new ones, so the option to stretch the image to 16:9 is necessary to have full screen on an old TV with a converter. -
Has anyone been playing the SillyVenture2K19 edition of Silas Adventure? I've been playing it and I'm at a point where I don't know what to do. I've been to 3 directions from the town (North forest, West path that you come from to get to the village, South graveyard). I don't see a path leading East, only a small door that doesn't seem to open. For each of the 3 directions I've gone, I've followed each to its end (ex: graveyard to the tomb and each of its levels). I'm at level 18 now and have no issue crushing any enemy I find, including the boss-like ones, but I can't find where else to go. There must be some objective I'm missing. Unfortunately, I can't save the game to come back to it later, so I'll probably have to lose my progress soon. So, has anyone played this through? Can anyone provide some tip on where to go next?
