Just noticed that it doesn't work properly with Scramble. I can't get the bombs to work, so my guess is that it's being detected as a 2-button controller on that one. I should try other games that auto detect a Genesis controller for 2-buttons, but I can't think of them at the moment.

22 minutes ago, Swami said:I seem to remember this issue occurring with Curt Vendel's combination 7800 joystick/paddle controller because some either/or games sensed which was present. He had to install a switch to turn off the paddle lines. So, you'd have to make simple adapter that terminates the paddle lines, since we know they won't work anyway. I imagine on the FBX, if it really does work with stock paddles, you would need an adapter with a switch to go back and forth.
What's cool about these controllers is that they have a switch to go from stick to paddle mode, and a switch to go from left stick to right stick orientation. I find that I prefer the stick on the right like an Atari joystick even though you use this like a thumbstick. I wonder if the switch doesn't completely disable something. Maybe they just aren't getting the right voltage from the FB9. Keep in mind that Genesis controllers and 7800 controllers also do not work properly with the FB9 even though you'd think they would (they're detected as paddles and have messed up directions). I think they also did not work with the FB8 models either, if I remember correctly. These Ranger controllers don't work at all -- no button, no up/down, left/right -- nothing.
I've gotten to test it with the Retron 77 now and it works quite well. I don't really sense much lag at all. I think they work better than using the original paddles with the 2600dapter. I did find it a little hard to get used to because the paddle is pretty stiff. Hopefully it loosens up a bit after some more use.
I still need to try it with my 7800.
Also, these are much, much smaller than I thought they'd be from the pics.

I need to contact them. They need to make good on this.
20 minutes ago, NISMOPC said:...The description also stated works with Flashback's but not the Flashback 9. Appears that part of the description was correct.
It shouldn't work on a non-modded Flashback 9, but I would think it would work on a modded one that works with standard paddles. But, although I'm disappointed, I was kinda skeptical that they would work. I'll have to try with my Flashback 8 Activision Ed. when I go to where it's stored at Christmas.
53 minutes ago, Atariboy said:Would be interesting to see if they work on the Flashback 10.
Perhaps the issue is that even when it's being used as a joystick controller, the built-in paddle functionality is breaking things for the Flashback 9 (which of course isn't compatible with unmodified original Atari paddles)?
I'm skeptical that it would work with the FB X, since it seems to use the same emulator. I don't know. I look forward to hearing from someone who has both. I haven't even seen a X in stores yet.
I would like to know what's keeping it from working with a modded 9. If there's a way to fix it, I'd be happy to do it.

Just one of MANY, I'm sure. It was great to see it on cartridge and with such nice artwork. I couldn't pass it up. I believe I have all your games so far.

Ah, so I was on the right track. I must have found 1 dot, but not the 2nd.

Well, I got the controllers today. They did NOT come with a Y-adapter and they do NOT work with the Flashback 9 (or Gold). I was hoping they would, since I didn't see why they wouldn't, but they don't work at all. Not in joystick mode and not in paddle mode, although the console does detect a paddle connected since the warning box pops up saying to disconnect paddles when not in use.
I haven't tried them with their intended Retron77 yet, or my 7800.
Edit: I should state that my Flashback 9 (and Gold) are modded to use original paddles.

Same here. I usually view demos as "if only the effort were put into a game", but this year we have so many great new games shown to look forward to, that I really enjoyed and appreciated the demos as well.
Thanks to everyone who worked so hard on this and the previous competition. It's been an amazing year and I'm very thankful for every game you've all put out. 🥳

I've played this a lot since picking it up at PRGE, but haven't figured out the easter egg yet. I think I found something once, but lost it.

That's one I thought should have come out when the Lynx was still on the market. It's great to see if finally making it's way here, and probably much better done than if it had come out back then.
Young me called Atari back then to see if that and NBA Jam were coming to the Lynx. They said "no, they were focusing on the Jaguar" at the time.

Compliments to all the participants, the level is very high, that is a good thing for the AtariLynx scene, and in the end this is the important thing.
Well, I'd be happy to play your game immediately and give it a second opinion!
But seriously, you are certainly right... it was great to see so many strong entries, (yours was definitely toward the top, IMO, but I'm glad I wasn't the "judge". For me, it would have been difficult to rank all those for a vote).

Different strokes for different folks, I suppose. Generally, my overall favorite type of game is more like your "On Duty", but puzzle games absolutely have their place too, and I'm definitely looking forward to playing "Silly Sister" ASAP.

So yours is printed 1/2 size?

The Nomad is great, but needs a little attention to make it more modern. I did the little jumper wire to make it compatible with Master System games several years ago, put a new LCD screen in mine a while back, and did the sound mod that lets it play FM sound for SMS games that support it. Combine that with a Hyperkin HDMI adapter cord and you're in business both portable and on a modern TV. It could still use a LiON battery pack conversion, but I'll probably stop here with the updates. If you're a stickler for sound, there is a sound chip mod you can do that gives it the full quality of a model 1 Genesis (the best sounding model).
For my current arrangement, I have my Nomad with me, but my Genesis is in storage. (I don't have a lot of space where I live, so I have to be very selective about what consoles I bring out of storage... and I mostly have my cartridges for all systems in storage and only keep out the Everdrives and equivalents).

I ordered a copy. I just became familiar with the work of drludos for the Lynx programming competition, so I had to order when I saw who was the author.
-
I'm in the U.S. and haven't heard anything about the cart being shipped yet. I was thinking they were aiming at December for that, but maybe I'm confusing it with something else I ordered. So far, I just have the rom they emailed a while back.
-
Mine arrived from Strictly Limited Games today. I never saw mention of it being for Japanese consoles on the SRG site, or were you referring to play-asia?
It works great on my Nomad. It didn't work on my 2018 Genesis Flashback, but I didn't expect it to. I haven't tried it on the 2017 Flashback, (That one has a much better dumper for playing your own carts, but the 2018 has far better emulation). Doesn't really matter though -- I just put the rom on my SD card for the Flashback to play and it works fine.

That'll be an awesome Christmas present.
This looks VERY well done.
I can hardly wait. The live stream of the Silly Venture compo this morning was a lot of fun. So many great works to look forward to.

These all look amazing.
I hope to get to play them soon.
And I'll be running for the front of the line to purchase any that get physical releases... (I just hope I don't have to wait for physical releases to play them).

Thanks! I hadn't ordered this game, since I didn't know how fun it was. After trying it out the ROM on the portable, I went and made a purchase.
I often try to buy a holiday themed game for Christmas, but wasn't sure what to go with this year. Now I've found it.

My resistors arrived from Mouser yesterday. I ordered 2 different brands just for good measure and put the panasonic in the Gold model and Bourns in the standard 9 model.
They are definitely even smaller than I expected. I have very good eyesight, but they're small enough that I wouldn't attempt to do it without a magnifying glass.
My first round (on the Gold model) went really smooth. I just used a fine tip soldering iron to remove the original resistors and had no trouble putting on the new ones. The whole thing only took a few minutes.
The second round (on the standard 9) did not go so well. Although I used the same technique as before, those things just did NOT want to play nice. It took several attempts and then 2 of the solder pads lifted off, leaving nearly nothing to solder to. I then spent nearly 30 minutes trying to get the 2 troublesome resistors to stay in position and line up to the nearly microscopic sliver of plating at the edge of were the solder pads used to be. Eventually I got it to work (all 4 players), but good grief. I don't know how long that one will last. A few good temperature changes might flex the board enough to render players 1 and 3 inop, but I hope it will hold.
If you want to do this, I recommend either removing them with a hot air station. I should have done that, but after the first round went so well, I didn't expect any trouble on the second.
All that being said, I think there is probably a better resistor value we should use anyway. These 510KOhm resistors use the entire range of the paddle and seem to even be a little shy of going all the way to the left. It's not that big of a problem with Warlords or Circus Atari, but Kaboom is definitely harder to play when you have to rotate the knob all the way to the stop in both directions. Super Breakout is also harder to play this way and Street Racer doesn't go all the way to the left side of the road. Also, the emulator doesn't know what to do with paddle games it doesn't know. So, the Kaboom Deluxe hack by Darrel or the Drive homebrew don't work with paddles.
A pic of the one that went well. They're kinda hard to see in the picture because the Panasonic brand has a beige dot in the middle, making it blend in a bit with the solder in the pic:

I ordered 2 of them. Looking forward to trying them out. I thought I read on the description that they come with a Y adapter to combine 2 paddles for play like the original paddles.

Lawnmower by OCEO - Silly Venture 2019 entry for Atari Lynx Game Compo

I must have collected a couple of Speed tanks in a row because I sped up and then seemed to speed up again (maybe it was only once, but it seemed like twice). I didn't know what it was that I picked up, but knew it must have been a powerup. I didn't pay close attention to the fuel tanks to see if they had letters.
Anyway, I really like that there are powerups and need to spend more time with it.
