  1. If word got out about how awesome these games are, your boards should run out in 10 days. Seriously... every Lynx owner should have these.
  2. I found it difficult to limit my votes to a top 3, because to me, my personal top 4 are pretty much tied. It seems like the poll could be split into 3 categories: one for multi-level games (like On Duty, Nutmeg, Ynxa), one for quick twitch or puzzle games (like Assembloids, Growing Ties, 4ttude, Find a Way to My Heart), and one for demos (like Inside World, Lynx Quest, Undergrounders). It's hard to rank multi-level games against puzzle games or demos. - The multi-level games are interesting and engaging when we have more time to play, and thankfully each of these save your progress so they can be played in short bursts as well (each of these are phenomenal in their own way). - The puzzle games have a definite preference in certain moods or circumstances and are engaging when we don't have a lot of spare time (I love each of these for various reasons). - I couldn't personally rate demos along with the first two categories. Lynx Quest, for example, looks amazing and has potential to be one of the best games on the Lynx even among the original commercial releases once completed, but in its current state, I could not compare it to the completed games of the previous two categories.
  3. The Activision style fit well with Tyre Trax, but in my opinion, this one is more complex and deserves much more than the simplistic Activision style art. Unless it's like later Activision releases, such as Beamrider or Hero, etc.
  4. For those who are interested... If you finish the first 4 worlds, you get a chance to unlock the secret level hinted at in the highscore screen. My advice is to take notes as you play through. *ignore the dotted "D" on my BennVenn screen. I haven't removed the protective layer yet.

  6. I agree. Very nice game. The plane slowly crashing didn't bother me (although I agree that at first it feels like maybe you got away without dying until you see the plane slowly fall back), but the thing that stuck out to me was how the bridges blowing up doesn't give any special boom. It goes away like any other object. I think it would be a much more satisfying feeling (with more of a feeling of progressing) if the bridges had a big explosion and maybe a screen shake or flash. Otherwise, I don't have any criticisms. :-)
  7. This has turned out to be very addicting. Especially after I read where you said we get an extra life for clearing the screen. I hadn't realized that before, so it's become a new sub-goal for me. I can't do it often, and it seems like when I do the game gets extremely fast, so I lose a life not long after (which may just be because it usually takes a while for me to accomplish it so it's already at a high speed), but it's still a fun goal to try for. I was playing it non-stop on my plane ride after finishing the first world (levels 1-1 through 1-5) of Nutmeg. I was extremely tired, so I kept dozing off during both games, but had a lot of fun nonetheless. It was great having my Lynx out for a plane ride again... I hadn't done that in many years but this competition gave a fresh reason to. Unfortunately, I don't have my smartphone with me (forgot it in the car at the airport parking lot), so I can't use the QR code to send in any high scores, but I look forward to doing that when I get back home.
  8. I posted the 1st day of its release that I played up to somewhere between level 13 to 15, and a few thoughts on it. I liked the 3D. It was interesting enough to keep me for that many levels, but just needed more to hold my attention past that point. If I'd known at the time that there were 22 levels, I would have tried to survive through them all. Since I didn't know if it went on indefinitely, I quit playing at that point. I really look forward to what you end up doing with the game. I'm also really looking forward to the other ideas you had with the engine, like an Outrun type racer. :-)
  9. Just curious... was I the first to finish the game since it's competition release? (not counting testing of course)
  10. I have now! Although, I was missing some gems. I didn't remember seeing any that I didn't get, so instead of beating myself up repeating all the levels to find them, I chose to exit, see what was in store, and save the 100% for a later time. I like what you did with the ending. There is one typo on the text screen before the exit, but that was a really cool idea with what you did on the way out.
  11. I stole a little time this morning to play though another level. I've now gotten through all but the "Path of Humility" which is next to try. However, I haven't been able to figure out how to get to the gem on the "Path of Discovery" (I think is the level). Figured that one out. I really like this game. I do have a couple of critiques though: 1) It would benefit from some variety in the music. 2) It would be nice to have a different color palette for each level. I have no idea how much work that would be or how much extra space it would take up, but it could help differentiate in your mind which level you're playing/played and give a bit more variety. 3) It needs a pretty title screen to match the nice in-game graphics. Anyway, I do love this game!
  12. This one looks pretty exciting. I really hope you're able to finish it. If you can build out several levels, it will be on par with or better than many commercial releases during the Lynx's run. I don't intend any insult by that at all... I just have the utmost respect for people who can build out an interesting game because to me, the creativity to build good levels is the hardest part. I can do sprites, but interesting level design is something I'm very weak at.
  13. The AgaCart does 256Kb or 512Kb ROMs. I had successfully played the 384Kb On Duty ROM on the AgaCart by removing the header and padding it out. But thanks for the trimmed down ROM. It should at least load twice as fast now.
  14. What is the interface made of? It could really use some custom styling to tailor it to the Retron 77. I'd really like to help with that, depending on how it works. Could it be made to use a background image as it's interface, with another few images for pop up windows, like settings?
  15. Thanks! I just carefully cut with scissors under a magnifying glass.
  16. I didn't care for the font I put on the previous one. I just used one I already had installed (modified Coleco font and bauhaus) instead of looking for a fitting font. I changed the font after searching for some Incan examples. It's still a "thrown together" label though, doesn't really do the game justice.
  17. I used one of Karri's PCBs with an odd mixed board from Igor to get this: And maybe best of all, the save game feature works great! I was going to put it on a standard gray shell, but I really liked how it looked with the label I threw together, and it was good to put this rejected shell to use... rejected no more. ☺️ I'm not proud of these labels, as I just threw them together using the assets of the game, but I am happy with how it looks on that shell. Here is the one I used with 2 different fonts. This game really deserves legit artwork from a good label artist.
  18. I spent quite a while on this the night it was released on the competition site. I was very impressed with it's complexity, level design, and size. It was WAY more than I was expecting with a name like YNXA. I thought it would be another puzzle game, but was very pleasantly surprised and blown away. I eventually had to quit playing and since I was using the Saint SD cart, I wasn't able to save, but I look forward to tackling this game later. So well done.
  19. A pretty cool tech demo with some gameplay thrown in. It had my attention for a good while. I would keep checking my health and trying to creep up on the enemies, but I don't think that mattered. I would get nervous that I wouldn't have enough energy remaining to survive until leveling up again. But eventually I noticed that each enemy shot wasn't taking a point away from my health when it got low. I played a little over a dozen stages (between 13 and 15 I think), before I eventually got tired. I think this could be fleshed out into a pretty interesting game.
  20. The graphics on this are extremely impressive, especially in the area after defeating the Slime Boss. I teased my (N*ntendo fan) wife that it took N*ntendo until the GBA to get even close to the graphics that the Lynx could do since '89. She was blown away by the graphics in that area as well. I really hope work on this continues and we see it fully fleshed out. It has potential to easily be the best looking game on the Lynx.
  21. This is an extremely impressive game, especially for a time-constrained competition. I spent quite a while playing it last night and I don't know how many missions I completed before I finally just got too tired and had to quit. I remember seeing mockups for this a while back, but never expected it would actually progress to a game. I'm very excited to see this come to life. Even as a competition rom, it's a great addition to the Lynx library. Two things I'd suggest, which may already be in the works: -Brightening/warming the color palette (I know screenshots were posted of this some time ago). The current colors kind of blend in a bit too much, even on an LCD modded Lynx. I haven't tried it yet on my stock Lynx, but some things may be hard to see with such similar contrast in colors. -Variety of music (the tune is good and fits the game well, but does get repetitive over the many missions).
  22. This turned out to be a much more solid and complex game than I expected. The name doesn't really hint at the kind of game it is and doesn't really do it justice (how do you pronounce it? What does it stand for?). The rooms are very well thought out and the game is impressively large. It's hard to believe it was done in a time-constrained competition. I got quite a ways into it and eventually had to stop playing due to time. It's not a game I think I could ever finish quickly... I'll have to take another run at it when I get the time.
  23. I was really pleasantly surprised once I realized what this game was. (It wasn't obvious to me from the screenshot). It's a nice upgrade of a great classic. Unfortunately, it crashes soon into the game on my Lynx II when playing with the Saint SD cart. I've tried several times. First, it crashed on the title screen. For the next attempt, I quickly skipped past the title screen and got a little gameplay in before it crashed. I haven't been able to get it to work on my AgaCart.

    Growing Ties

With the Saint SD cart I just get a black screen. No error message. Tried the rom as downloaded. Also tried some alterations (padding, tweaking header, etc. No dice). For the AgaCart, I'm not entirely sure I'm prepping the rom correctly. I pad it out to 128K then run it through the conversion tool to convert it from lnx file to 256K lyx file (since it needs 256k or 512k). That has worked for me in the past, but there are a few games from the competition I've not gotten to work on the AgaCart, (some of which work on the Saint SD cart).
