    HACK JOB

You can get a plastic enclosure box at Radio Shack that's just about the size of that board but slightly longer which is perfect room for the joystick connectors (just under 2" x 3"). I made two of these way back and used the same circuit board you did from Radio Shack. Those enclosures I'm talking about look great. I showed mine at Jagfest '98. I want to redo the end that plugs into the 7800. One of these days when I get some controller extension cables, I'll put these at the ends of them instead of plugging them directly into the 7800.
  3. Added a Pete Rose Baseball color edit to the first post. Let me know what you think.
  4. Back to using my old PowerMac 7500 upgraded from a 100MHz 601 to a 800MHz G4, 1GB RAM, Radeon 9200 128MB video, Sonnet Tempo Trio, & OS 10.4.11. I love this thing.

Right on! I'm on my PowerMac G4 at the moment. It boots OS 9, Tiger, and Leopard. Lots of life left in these older machines.

  5. Back to using my old PowerMac 7500 upgraded from a 100MHz 601 to a 800MHz G4, 1GB RAM, Radeon 9200 128MB video, Sonnet Tempo Trio, & OS 10.4.11. I love this thing.

  6. Don't knock it till you've tried it. Seriously though, you should really give it a go with a good set of paddles. Actually, I didn't even know you could play it with a joystick. I'm really not trying to beat a dead horse, but I watched as you went through all the trouble of getting paddle code working properly on the 7800 for your Super Circus game. I thought this would be a great opportunity to put that accomplishment to use again. The 7800 could always use a 2nd paddle game and this would be a great candidate.
  7. Keep your eyes open at the flea markets. I got my FB2 for $1 and some change. It didn't come with a joystick, but for less than $2, I didn't care. I've got plenty of joysticks anyway.
  8. This game is one of the reasons I bought a 3DO back in the day. I wanted to play those games announced for the Jag that never made it... like this one, Creature Shock, Demolition Man, etc. That simple 3DO purchase turned into a long lived obsession and massive collection of nearly every 3DO game released. Now that this is finally available for the Jag, you know I HAVE to get it. Thanks for sticking with it Carl!
  9. Any chance you'd add the choice for paddle support, like your Super Circus? This is great, but could really benefit from paddles. Those who've played Astrosmash can attest to how great paddles are with the game.
  10. For those of you who just want to play the game and missed s0c7's earlier work, check it out here. Looks like neotokeo2001's wish came true. If the ROM for Army of Darkness isn't released, you can still get your kicks with bifrost and could easily do a graphic hack. Although, it would be absolutely too awesome to hear "Hail to the King, baby!" instead of "Prepare for Battle!". As a huge Bruce Campbell fan myself, I'd be very tempted to buy a copy of this if the price weren't too high. However, limited releases are typically more than I care to spend, due in part to a box which I have absolutely no use for.
  11. Added a quick color hack of Dragster to the first post. Check it out and tell me what you think.
  12. Nukey Shay's Exidy's Circus hack would be a great starting point for what you're requesting.
  13. Update: I've been playing my Coleco for the past few days and tried a cart for the first time that I thought was a Coleco cart. I think I bought this back in 1999 in the early days of ebay. I didn't remember what I had intended to buy, but thought it must have been a mix-up by the seller since the shell is shaped like a Coleco shell. Also, it's missing the end label. I put it with my Coleco collection and never got around to playing it. Anyway, I stuck this in my Coleco today expecting it to be Jungle Hunt or something (based on the front label), and just got a black screen. I tried cleaning the contacts and that's when I noticed the pins looked a lot more like an Atari cart, which is what I would have intended to buy back in 1999. I stuck it in my Atari and lo-and-behold, it was Bobby is Going Home. Now I kinda remember buying it. I wish it hadn't taken 12 years to realize I had it. I'm also glad I didn't screw it up by trying to play it in my Coleco. P.S. Referring back to my original post, the box at this link looks like the box I saw at Radio Shack way back: http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-2600-vcs-bobby-is-going-home_8276.html
  14. Ha! Level 3 or 4 too hard? I can't get past level 1! I guess I really need practice. Maybe if the collision detection just used the raft instead of the player's whole body it would be easier to squeak by those obstacles. Looks like it's coming along nicely though. BTW, are all the river banks white?
  15. I use 91% isopropyl. But for really tough jobs, I've used fine steel wool from time to time. It's brought a few cranky NES carts back to life. You could also try brasso. If I were to use sandpaper, I'd go with something finer than 200 for sure. Maybe upwards of 1500 grit... minimum. Those old cleaning kits used around 3000 grit I'd say. On the subject of sandpaper, I've saved a few REALLY badly scratched CDs/DVDs with it. Again, something upwards of 1500 grit followed by a disc doctor, then a buffer with rubbing compound and finally finish restorer compound.
  16. Thank you for the update! Lookin' good!
  17. I don't know why, but I cannot get the joystick control to work so I have not been able to play it yet. ProSystem does not seem to recognize when I press the button for L difficulty. Any ideas how I can make ProSystem work right? I think I had a similar problem months ago with the MIA prototype and I don't remember what I did to get that difficulty switch working right.
  18. I remember the author saying that he planned on porting it to the 8-bit line. If my memory serves correct, he originally said he was just worn out by the drama of dealing with Infogrames (Atari), but was not completely closed off to the idea of porting it at some future time. Then, I think it's been within the past year, I'm sure he posted that he did indeed desire to port it.
  19. He said that he would. Maybe it slipped his mind or maybe he's been too busy and hasn't gotten around to it yet.
  20. Ah, thank you. Now that's an incredible looking demo.
  21. What settings do I need to use to load this in Stella? I'm using v3.3 and I've tried several different ROM settings including the Enhanced DPC.
  22. It's okay. I don't normally post like that, but it really rubbed me the wrong way and I took it personal. I felt like you were hounding a friend and I wanted to speak up. The content of what I said is still legit though. I encourage you to get Hackomatic and Bithacker and play around with them. This hack is a good starting point since the text file included with the ROM tells you right were the colors are located. Then you can move on to making sprite and color edits of other games. There's very little skill or learning effort required to use these tools. You'll find it's a lot of fun to tweak the sprites and colors of games in ways you'd always wanted. - [edit:] Further context... I have been quickly checking the forums periodically while sitting in class or in between classes. For whatever reason, (probably because of the quick reading), I took these posts the wrong way. I almost posted a response a day or so earlier, (in which I would have been a little more kind), but decided to let it go. When I got home last night I read the more recent comment and said what I did. I just now realized this topic is much much older than I thought and see the whole thing in a completely different context. As I mentioned earlier, I don't normally post like that and I don't usually make such mistakes about topics in general. That's what I get for reading so quickly while in class or in my very very limited free moments.
  23. Ah, yes... by far my favorite "Pac-Man" for the 2600. Dennis Debro, (I hope I got the name right), made Pac-Man 4k in which the ghosts' behavior is more faithful, but IMO Hack'em is still the definitive Pac-Man at this time. For the best experience, put both difficulty switches in the "A" (or Advanced) position.
  24. Those are nice sprites btw.
  25. If you don't like it, then change it. Nukey was already nice enough to re-post the instructions that were already included in the accompanying text file about all the colors. It's as simple as reading the darn readme and hex editing where it says to edit, or opening the game in Hackomatic 3 and going to the addresses listed in the readme to make the changes. Either way is simple enough that you could easily do it with a little bit of effort and a tiny bit of initiative. Nukey works VERY hard and is VERY helpful to all of us in the community. His patience with your demands are evidence of that. There appears to be a lack of appreciation here. Let me re-iterate: you have all the necessary information to make some minor color edits yourself. I suggest you give it a try by following the instructions provided, THEN if you need further help, we can assist you.
