I don't know about the 8-bit version, but the 5200 version still gives you red crosses to return to. I would assume the 8-bit version is the same.

Thank you for extending the poll. I think maybe we should be allowed to change our vote until the end and I really wouldn't know how to best manage some of the suggestions here that aren't in the poll. For me personally, I've been turned OFF of the 7800 Expansion Module name. It wasn't until I was re-reading my earlier post that I decided that. The more I read over my post, the more I was turned off of that name for the reasons listed earlier. Maybe others have had similar experiences after reading their own or someone else' post. Right now, I think I still favor: 7800 Super Game Module with 7800 Enhanced Game Module and 7800XS taking a close 2nd. If someone comes up with a better idea, I don't think it will currently allow me to change my vote.

Best to Announce First or Deliver First?
KevinMos3 replied to Gemintronic's topic in Homebrew Discussion
I say don't announce until you have something solid to show for it and then once it's announced, for goodness sake complete it. Otherwise, I and probably others reserve the right to chase you down with sticks. -
This definitely looks exciting. I hope you share something playable with us here soon!

Apple Snaffle (7800's 25th birthday game)
KevinMos3 replied to GroovyBee's topic in Homebrew Discussion
I've been looking forward to seeing more of this for a long time. I was never even a fan of that *ahem* "Rock Run" game, but I love this. Maybe there's just something about the apples, the look of the character, and the overall feel of the game that I find so much more appealing than the other big game of this genre. -
Yeah, the cartridges are the sexiest for any system IMO. Even the console itself looks great. I never minded how big is was. I really don't see why size matters on this subject. Most VCRs of the time were about the same size, so it's not like it took up more space than anything else sitting atop or around your TV. The games are so much fun. Many of them are the best playing versions for any system. Keystone Kapers, Moon Patrol, Kangaroo, Pac-Man, etc. etc. Even the games that I prefer on the 7800 are still great on the 5200, such as Mario Bros and Joust. It's just a great system, although I can say that if it weren't for the Wico Competition Pro joystick, I wouldn't play it nearly as much.

Fight Ghost and Goblins on your Colecovision!
KevinMos3 replied to youki's topic in Homebrew Discussion
Why not make it available as a Cart + Manual package (without the box)? That way it's more affordable, more people who want it can get it, but people who want a "limited edition" can still have their numbered boxed copy, and you have the bonus of not giving satisfaction to the lame profiteers on ebay. Personally, I would have loved to buy it, but the price was WAY out of my range. If you made it available like this, I'm sure a lot more people would jump on it. -
I grew up with the 2600 Jr. It was always hard getting to the difficulty switch in time on that console. I beat it once as a kid. After that, I got to the Marshmallow man a few times, but couldn't get my guys past him. I haven't tried to beat it in years. Maybe it's time for another go? ...And this time on my Heavy Sixer. I remember there being an ending that I thought was really cool back then. I won't give it away, and it's not much by today's standards, but at least there IS an ending. Back then, any kind of ending was a pleasant surprise.

Oh crap! While I was proofreading my post and making edits, you've posted a decision. PLEASE don't rush the name. It's only been open for a day. I say please let the conversation continue for a little while. edit: Besides that, some of the other suggestions could be added to the poll.

I think both 7800 Expansion Module and 7800 Super Game Module are okay names, but I'm leaning more toward Super Game Module. The reason being that Expansion module is a bit too generic and I wouldn't know if it were a keyboard attachment, a voice attachment (like intellivioce), a steering wheel, a floppy drive, or something for storing highscores etc. You get the point. Super Game Module on the other hand, lets me know that it's something to enhance the games; whether it's additional RAM, better sound, etc. Also, for an acronym, I like SGM better than EM. All that being said, I still think there may be a better choice than either of these... I just haven't heard it yet. I do like some of the ideas in this post and this post. Maybe something could be done with those ideas, like Enhanced Game Module (EGM), 7800XS, 7800XG, or 7800EX. Heh, I do kind of like 7800XS, like excess. As for similarity with Colecovision module names, I really couldn't care less and don't think that should play a role in this decision. Two totally different subjects so there can be no confusion anyway. Besides that, I wouldn't want to see a good name overlooked because it's similar to a name for something else that it has nothing to do with. Now that I've let me serious opinion be known, how about Ms. Piggy? And of course you must add the subtext "Making game with utmost funny!"

Is it too weird to say "I love you man"? But seriously, thank you so much for that. In all candor, the ONE reason I was somewhat hesitant to buy the game was because at the time, I did not understand that the two ROMs equaled the full game. I have a principle about not buying homebrews unless the ROM is available. If I can't play it in an emulator as well as on the real hardware, I won't buy. Of course, I also want to try before I buy, but in this case I wanted the game regardless because I KNEW it would be good. I decided to purchase Adventure II anyway, and was very pleased to find that I could in fact play it in an emulator. I was not disappointed by this game in ANY way. The cartridge, packaging additions, and game itself are all excellent. I'm more proud of it than any other game in my collection. I've shown it off to friends who remembered the original Adventure and everyone has loved it.

From what I understood of the description on Cafeman's website, these are the full version ROMs -- just split into two parts: one for Easy and Intermediate levels, one for Advanced and Special levels. Also, I own the cartridge and have not found a difference. So take that how you will.

How to find colors in Hack o Matic 3.0.3?
KevinMos3 replied to yuppicide's topic in Atari 2600 Hacks
Monkeys Suck! Actually, good work. It definitely makes the vines much harder, not that I'm a glutton for punishment or anything. -
You laugh, but that's exactly what I did! Actually, I let it download overnight using a firefox extension so I could keep it and watch it later.
-
Whatever you end up calling it, you have to include the subtext: "Making game with utmost funny!" That was actually printed on the box of a Playstation expansion cart I once got.

Speaking of glue... I picked up a Scotch brand permanent glue stick the other day for some of my labels that have fallen off. I cleaned the plastics, wiped off the backs of the detached labels, and rubbed the stick on both parts. When I placed the labels back on the carts, they seemed to stick quite nicely. I'm hoping the old hardened glue on the back of the labels created a good barrier to keep the new glue from seeping into the label. We'll see. If it's still holding strong after a few years, I'll be happy.

How to find colors in Hack o Matic 3.0.3?
KevinMos3 replied to yuppicide's topic in Atari 2600 Hacks
That fixed it Omegamatrix. Try these sprite edits: I think the mask on the native looks more like a mask, (I thought the mask was a hat when I was a kid... looked like a crown or something to me). I like the arms back and leaning forward when jumping. I got that idea from the arcade version. Uh... seems the forum won't accept the "percent zero zero" at the front, even with the code command. So, you need to add that, ("percent zero zero" symbols not words - without the quotes), in front of each one that doesn't have it here. The explanation is more for others who stumble on the thread, as Nukey and Omegamatrix obviously know the routine. I'm more than a couple decades behind, but I just finished the 2nd level of Pitfall II this morning. Afterward, I went online to see if I could find a map to get any gold I may have missed. I found the black & white map here at AA so I decided to color it. I spent literally ALL DAY on it. Now, I find this thread where there's a color map already posted! Well, that's a whole day down the drain. Anyway, if anyone wants the map I colored, here it is: My colors are a bit different from the other color map because I went by the Stella palette. Also, I used a dark gray background because I wanted to keep some of the black outlines from the original black & white map and I wanted some outlines I added to stand out just a tad.

The TAC-2 by Suncom should be about the best "joystick" you can get for the 7800. They are just slightly larger versions of the Slik Stik for the 2600 which I LOVE, (and is the only joystick I use). They don't wear out like a normal joystick because of the way they're built.

Thanks for the info. So, in that case... can we look forward to a posting of a newer binary? wink wink

How to find colors in Hack o Matic 3.0.3?

Excellent work as always Nukey. The vine scene is buggy, but the rest looks excellent and I love the rolling rocks with point values. The shading on the large boulders looks great as well. I'm excited to see where you go with this. The ideas for monkeys, bubbles, and dual rocks/savages are very interesting. -
I tried Superbug the other day and it loads the title screen, but just goes black after that. Do I need to rename the extension for a specific banking scheme, or is this game just not harmony compatible? Regards

Keep in mind this is the original prototype and not the Enhanced version we've created. Thanks guys, for giving us some idea of what to expect. The action in that prototype video looks a lot like Enduro... but less exciting and no turns in the road, (just a fixed turn on some stages). I'm still looking forward to getting it and I'm really glad it has been "enhanced."

I'm glad you gave the tidbit about HSW and Yars' Revenge. I always wondered where the idea for that game came from. I never even heard of Star Castle until yesterday. (Which I suppose is testament to the fact that I was always an Atari gamer and not an arcade gamer). You know what else it reminds me of? Spacemaster X-7.

Thank you. I really hope no hard feelings come from this thread for you or anyone here. I respect you and your work. (I've always loved High Voltage games BTW). I try to understand where people are coming from. I hope we will all afford each other that courtesy.
