Since 2009, the blueMSX databases have not been updated. Different personal reasons explain that, but I don't want to annoy you with more details. We have however collected many new data, especially because the MSX, Coleco and Sega communities are very active. So, here's finally a big update that must be viewed as a prelude to a new version of your preferred emulator. No, you don't dream, we are preparing also a big update of the emulator itself !!!! You can find the updated databases on our Resource page. http://www.vik.cc/bl...x/resource.html Here's a small list of the changes : - Coleco database : added many alternative dumps and new created roms - Sega database : added many new dumps, especially Korean games Remarks about Sega games : * at the moment, you need to rename the small Korean/Taiwanese .sms games with the .rom extension (the .sms extension will be supported in next blueMSX version) * some games don't work, we hope to fix that in the new version of the emulator (the RAM extension for King's Valley will be emulated and there are also launching problems to be fixed) * the 4 following games require to be launched on the SF-7000 machine : Magical Kid Wiz, Super Boy I, Super Boy III, Xyzolog - SVI database : added some dumps, especially in the dsk section - MSX tape database : no any change (will be developed later) - MSX system roms database : added new dumps, many are related to new machines - MSX game roms database : added a mountain of new creations, alternative dumps coming especially from Korea, Arabic countries, the MSX Legacy Collection, also conversions and/or improvements and/or translations made by Django, GDX, Kabish, the MSX Files team, etc ... Remark : some Korean MSX games use the MSXDOS2 mapper, it's recommended to select this mapper manually as the emulator fails to use the correct mapper in this case, even with the updated database (a bug that we hope to fix in the new blueMSX version) Enjoy still better your preferred emulator with these updated databases !

Version 2.6 of blueMSX has been released ! blueMSX is the first freeware emulator to support the Game Reader, a device that allows an user to play real MSX cartridges on a PC. blueMSX is using Vincent van Dam's API to access the Game Reader device. The support requires the Game Reader hardware and official drivers that can be purchased from Sunrise or MSX-ASSOCIATION. Note that the support is very different from MSXPLAYer and some cartridges will not run as well as with the MSXPLAYer. Another surprising new feature is support for ObsoNET, the only Ethernet solution for MSX, developed by Daniel Berdugo. Read carefully the manual as this support requires to install first WinPCap, the Windows Packet Capture Library. After many requests from gamers, the emulator comes finally with input event logging, replay and AVI rendering. Conceived as enhanced save states, this great feature gives to the user a more complete MSX experience ! blueMSX 2.6 has also support for the Sega SC-3000 and SF-7000 computers, that were very close to the MSX1 system without being compatible. Which are the other changes ? - Added support for low resolution in fullscreen mode - Added SVI printer support - Added selection of video in grabber - Added support for Sony Playball roms with digitized speech - Added support for MegaCart®, a new type of Coleco rom - Added dutch version of the user manual - Fixed crash caused by video grabber card - Made video grabber unload if not selected (in 2.5, the grabber was always enabled) - Fixed NMI bug in z80 emulation causing some Coleco games to fail running - Fixed detection of Sega rom types in menus and dialogs - Fixed bug in screen 10 vertical border color - Fixed header of PNG screenshots - Fixed bug in the S1985 device that caused emulator to crash when debugger was open. - Fixed the joystick button triggers for the SVI joystick - Fixed bug in the I8250 UART used in SVI-328 that caused emulator to hang - Fixed SVI-328 PPI bug - Fixed default rom mapper handling - Changed default width of the memory window in the debugger to 16 bytes - Fixed some printer emulation bugs - Fixed save state in R-Type rom mapper so it doesn't crash the emulator - VDP timers are now saved correctly in save states - Updated MSX Printer emulation to include a static font - Fixed screen 6 sprites - Fixed CC sprite bug that made CC sprites visible even if no non CC sprite was present - Fixed sprite collision index in Status Register 0 for screen 5-8 sprites - Fixed bug related to CC sprites (having the attribute "Mix color with sprite that has next higher priority") You can find this emulator here : http://www.bluemsx.com

In full summer heat, there's no rest for the MSXdev' team as we are proud to present you the first finished game for the 2006 edition of this great contest : a full MSX conversion of a Spectrum game released by Taito in 1987, Operation Wolf ! Not only this version is better than the poor port made by Ocean in 1988, as it uses all the MSX capabilities, but this version detects also if your machine or emulator has external or internal MSX-MUSIC and can therefore enhance also the musical experience ! Enjoy this conversion made by the TOYBOX team Tip for blueMSX users : add manually the rom file in a cartridge slot and select the 'mirrored rom' mapper type. The game will be added later to the blueMSX database. http://msxdev.msxblue.com

03/05/06 MSXdev'06 : a three-head jury ! Since his launching on 17 april 2006, the MSXdev'06 knows a high success and many projects in progress are the perfect proof that the MSX community is alive and kicking. Now the MSXdev team has announced the formation of the jury. Contrary to the previous editions, the jury is no more based on one person, but it's a three-head jury, because having more than one person involved in the jury could allow to obtain results with mixed points of view. The three MSX'ers that have kindly accepted this difficult task are : - Cas Cremers, founder of the well known MSX software company Parallax in 1989 and creator of legendary MSX pieces with one thing in common: to push the MSX system to its limits (Vectron, Arc, Magnar, Black Cyclon, Blade Lords, Akin, Core Dump promo) ; - Jesús Pérez Rosales (aka [DK]) , member of the excellent MSX game development group Team Bomba, responsible of the very nice gameplay, level design and major improvements to masterpiece Bombaman ; - Philip Pera (aka msxgamesbox) , webmaster of the famous site The Msx Games bOX, organizer of the MSXart contests and supplier of lots of information about homebrew MSX games and a photo gallery covering most MSX computers and consoles.
