On Feb 17 2024, Atari 800 designer Joe Decuir and I did a deep dive talk together at @VCFSoCal on how engineering decisions made 40 years ago, allowed #FujiNet to work perfectly today on the #Atari8bit. It was an honor to share the stage with him.

The fine folks at @ZeroPageHomeBre showed the first working breaths of the #FujiNet for the #Atari2600, which extends #PlusCart with powerful networking. Shown here playing #FujiNet 5-card-stud from the Game lobby! #retrogaming #retrocomputing
(yup, that's right fellas, cooperative cross-platform networking and gaming, even on the Atari 2600!) -
The reason #FujiNet exists, is to bring the #retrocomputing and #retrogaming communities together; to get everyone to leave their respective corners and try to create something new, in the middle, together.
-
It feels like everything I post, even explicit calls to help with #FujiNet documentation, just goes into a void, with maybe a like, which feels like "Gosh, he's working so hard, it's pointless, but just look at him go." ... sigh.

This post reminds me of a comic in which a pug is doing human things (including being at an office and and having his soul sucked out and stuff) being called cute. I can't remember which specific artist drew that, but it seems relevant now.
I do actually wish I could do something to help with your project though.

Computer War (Thorn EMI, 1982) for #Atari8bit is now #HighScoreEnabled. Gameplay is simple, shoot down the missiles, before they reach their targets, and match the codes so that the missle bases can be disabled. Do this before DEFCON 1, or risk GLOBAL THERMONUCLEAR WAR. #retrogaming -
For #atari8bit #FujiNet users: Thorn EMI's Wargames "inspired" Computer War is now #HighScoreEnabled.

I really would have thought the high score enabled FujiNet games would have had a larger impact on the High Score Club here on AtariAge, but it seems to have gone completely unnoticed, or ignored...

In this #retrocomputing #archaeology series video, we show how the tools at #ATARI coin-op worked, in-context. We modify Centipede, assemble, link, and create new EPROMs with our changes. #retrogaming #gamedev

In this video of the #Retrocomputing #Archaeology Series, we explore the #Atari8bit #Music #Composer, a cartridge available at the launch of the #Atari 400 and 800 systems, in 1979. We go through the process of transcribing Bach's Invention #8 in F.

This video shows the process of doing #gamedev using other, larger systems to develop software for the #Atari 2600 and 5200 game consoles using a cross assembler. This example contrasts a cross assembler from Sorcim running on #Atari8bit and #S100 hardware. Enjoy. #retrocomputing #retrogaming

Look at what I found. SORCIM's ACT65 cross assembler for CP/M. Look familiar? #retrocomputing #Atari8bit http://cpmarchives.classiccmp.org/cpm/Software/rlee/S/SORCIM/ACT Cross Assemblers/

This video gives an in-depth look at what is currently the oldest known copy of 86-DOS, the antecedent to #MSDOS aka #PCDOS, where we go through the process of moving from CP/M, translating Z80 to 8086 code, and assembling it. Since this DOS predates the IBM PC, it must be simulated via #SIMH as a Gazelle with a Cromemco 4FDC controller. #retrocomputing

This video is a play through of Dig-Dug for the #Atari8bit systems. This version has been #HighScoreEnabled to allow #FujiNet users to post their high scores for all to see on the Internet both in-game and on the web. #retrocomputing #retrogaming.

Not much. There is almost nothing FujiNet specific about it.
For most of the games, they could save their own score. Some just needed a routine to save the scores to disk sectors.
In the case of Centipede, Donkey Kong, and Pac-Man, I added the ability to enter high scores, and to save those scores on sectors 719 and 720 of the disk. There are three unused ATR header bytes which specify that those sectors are legal to write to, even when mounted read only, so the Fujinet will open the ATR as read only, and when a write attempt happens to those two sectors, it will quickly open the file as read/write, write the sectors, and then re-open as read-only.
The scrapers for the website simply listen for file changes to the ATR, and regenerate the web page on change.
This means that you can not only keep local copies of the game yourself (without any tethers), but you can deploy the scrapers on your own server.

@doctorclu WoW doesn't store names, just scores. Would love someone to patch it.

Placed on the #FujiNet #Atari8bit #HighScoreEnabled board for Gorf. Mission 11, yay. http://scores.irata.online/
