You can also customize these, save your customization, and set one as your new default if you'd like.

  2. It showed up! This system had a former life in the NSA, and is not supposed to still be here...yet... https://imgur.com/gallery/WCO1sIZ

Isn't that the same machine used to control the guns in Aliens?

    3. tschak909

      tschak909

The unit used in Aliens is a GRiD Compass 1129. This is one series newer, larger screen, full IBM PC compatibility, 80386SX/20 CPU.

Beautiful machine! I still love amber displays.

If you gotta go retro, might as well do it with style! It's stonkin' big in the back, but that's the style for old stuff I suppose.

    3. tschak909

      tschak909

It is not actually amber, but bright yellow. It is not a gas plasma display, but a TEFL electroluminescent display. Very rare.

I've always had a sick fascination with the HP Omnibooks 300/425/525 series as well... very reminiscent of the Atari STBooks but without the cool ass orange glow of course!

When I traveled to somewhat rough places, I had a Panasonic Toughbook. The airport security people would ask me to remove my laptop from the case. Ummm ... it is out of the case, it's just TOUGH.

Ran GENS (Sega Genesis emulator) great!

  5. To anyone who can, I will pay for a universal power transformer that can power an atari 8-bit and a couple of peripherals, simultaneously.

    1. tschak909

      tschak909

Ideally, something that can handle multiple devices and multiple voltages for different computer systems and their peripherals, simultaneously. I have multiple retro-computing systems that I am having to periodically swap out.

But I will settle for a single transformer that can power multiple 9VAC devices.

    2. pacman000

      pacman000

Why not just connect all the power supplies to a surge protector?

    3. tschak909

      tschak909

Because I have over two dozen different computer architectures that I have to swap through on the bench to do PLATOTERM development. I do not want to have a whole bunch of bricks sitting doing nothing drawing load. I want a univeral PSU that I can quickly change to the target system, and not have to spend time threading or unthreading power cabling, or leaving an ocean of bricks and wiring to get tangled over time. Sigh.

  10. I have now written over a dozen PLATO terminals for IRATA.ONLINE, and have been ceaselessly promoting them for months...but have received almost no testing feedback, save for the Atari 8-bit version... if this were a capitalist enterprise, I would cut my losses and pull the plug on the whole thing.

You can attach a raspberry pi, or a PC running tcpser. This is what I do for development.

    3. carlsson

      carlsson

Yes I would probably do something similar if I had the interest. Generally I know the feeling from when people are asking of something, you make it work and publish it, and then crickets regarding feedback. Usually I find use of my own work at least.

  13. I do not understand why retro-computing development is still treated by some developers as something to be hoarded and not done publically, in the open. I know it's your decision, but I'm sorry, it's exceedingly selfish, and it robs the community of knowledge that will ultimately sustain it. I hope this practice ends someday. Seriously, what? you're going to be butt hurt that you sell 20 copies instead of 21?

  14. Looking for anyone who would like to make cart label or box art for PLATOTerm for Atari 8-bit!

  15. Does anyone have a routine that would allow a standard 16K cart to be flashed to a 1mbit or 8mbit AtariMax cart?

  21. Hello, everyone. I’m writing here because I need to ask something of the communities that IRATA.ONLINE is and intends to service: What can I do better? As of now, there is one person actively working on IRATA.ONLINE. Me. I am maintaining the service, making demonstration videos, and writing terminals for over 12 different systems, as well as their documentation. I have also been providing a meeting space, online, so that I can show the system to interested people, so they can see...

Well first off, I get a security cert error and it won't let me in on my browser. Opened it in a VM to check it out. Might wanna fix that. Nothing else to add at the moment. May look deeper into it when my 800XL gets here.

Just fixed the cert. Thanks for the heads up.

We all have. All this noise about an "economic recovery" has been complete and utter nonsense. It was a wealth grab for the .00625%.

The acolytes of the Chicago school of economics, which has infected every country in the developed world, have taken to essentially bubble macroeconomics, ever since the dissolution of Breton Woods in the early 1970s, and thus we've been put back on the treadmill of "blow bubble up, pop, rich people collect all the prizes" ever sin...

  23. I need to write a Javascript implementation of a PLATO terminal. The terminal is graphical, and thus would render into a canvas tag. I already know I need to do a websocket proxy. Any pro JS coders have suggestions on toolkits?

Wouldn't call it a toolkit, but this is an HTML based Telnet client aimed at connecting to BBSs which uses websockets... https://github.com/rickparrish/fTelnet

  24. VCF East was a success. There were approximately 50 people or so in the room, and it was video'd, so I am waiting for it to magically pop up onto youtube. I managed to squeeze about 2 hours of content down into 1 hour, without rushing or cutting off, which, surprised the hell out of me.

@RockyRacoon, http://www.irata.online/ -- It is an online service, resurrected from PLATO, that I have created and am providing to the entire retro-computing community, and I give regular, or even impromptu demonstrations of it
