I've been a swiss army knife of an engineer, working professionally pulling paychecks since before I was a teenager (going on 30 years now), I had hoped that constant persistence, discipline, and creativity towards my goals would have landed me a role in an R&D lab, but no.

I'm currently writing and applying to centers with quantum computers, as a last shot...

And now apparently not just superhero movies are required to use classic rock songs in their trailers, now it's EVERY movie! I heard Disney is getting rid of the Star Wars theme and using Mr Roboto in the Star Wars 8 trailers.

Hopefully Jeff Goldblum won't return to rape his daughter in this movie. That would be even creepier than last time.

Think you could brighten up the yellow a bit?

    3. tschak909

      tschak909

nope, the NES/Famicom palette is a sea of desaturated colors. I was able to actually BRING IN yellow, by turning on emphasis for the red colors, but that's about all I can do. I can shift over to a yellow that has more red, but then orange hilights start to creep in.

  9. I had to send my main computer into Dell's ARC center to debug the docking station. It'll be a week before I get it back...

This is one of the reasons I'd never use a laptop as my main computer. (At least I'm assuming it's a laptop, since it has a docking station.) With a desktop, you can service it yourself if something goes wrong, even if it means swapping out a motherboard.

      tschak909

For various reasons, I needed my main workstation to be mobile. This isn't your typical laptop. I needed a laptop to be able to model entire data centers (using various virtualization and container technologies such as OpenStack and Docker), and when I bought the laptop in 2015, only two laptops were powerful enough to handle the job, one from Lenovo, one from Dell, I had to buy the one from Dell, because I needed to make a demo for work in three weeks to justify my job, and the Lenovo un...

Surprised there's a useful development environment for the NES! How easy is it to use?

    2. tschak909

      tschak909

Lots of little utilities for graphics management, and the compiler of course is a CLI app. Which is just fine with me, using make to tie it all together. Right now, I'm spending a considerable amount of time shrinking all the graphics ever so slightly to fit well inside 2x3 sets of tiles (each graphic is on average two pixels too large due to the slightly different screen size). Once this is dealt with, I'll start writing the game logic. I've already been patching the game in MAME...

      doctorclu

This was written in a variant of AMAC.

    3. tschak909

      tschak909

Correct, it was done in a cross-AMAC (CAMAC), that ran on the Data General MV/8000. It would be great to have source code for it. Right now, I am in the middle of writing a better text editor to replace MEDIT (which, while good, does not work with anything other than the standard ANTIC display)

  14. I think the hardest problem that I have with VCS development, is that I can't think structurally, everything has to be within the context of a video frame, so it all becomes a big bowl of pasta...

Spaghetti code always stopped me in Atari 800XL basic. Things just get hard to follow quickly. Maybe that's why batari Basic works so well. You have small 4K banks that you get to switch between, making even a 32K program easier to keep track of what's going on?

I _NEED_ to _TALK_ to somebody about this...with less lag than a fucking message board..because my brain WILL NOT LET THIS GO... I HAVE TO UNDERSTAND WHY LARRY WAGNER'S ALGORITHM FAILS WHEN I PEEL IT AWAY FROM THE COMBAT CODE! I am making a plea for ANYONE that I can talk to, who understands the problem, over Skype, Hangouts, whatever.. I need a chalk talk.. BADLY! :(

      DZ-Jay

Try adding either a random "hit" on one of the vectors to slightly change the angle; or alternatively, adjust it based on the surface point of collision.
