Continuing with the Donovan song blog title theme, I had been a good boy about going to work every day, that is, until the illness struck. This is my second day I had to stay home from going to work. I think it'll go away by Christmas and I should be well enough to go to work Tuesday. Don't know what's wrong, my stomach has been hurting and I've been very tired. Well, anyway, gives me time to watch the mail. I've got four 2600 games coming to me soon. Anyone here a fan of Donovan, or is it just me?

I scrapped the minigame and tried (and the keyword here is 'tried') to make the title screen song bear some resemblance to the song "Atlantis" by Donovan. Why not "Yellow Submarine"? Because the submarine wouldn't be yellow if the game was in black & white, now would it? Anyway, what's the legal side of using copyrighted songs? Did XYPE have to pay royalties to the estate of Johnny Cash when they used "Ring of Fire" for its title screen? I'll work on the song more during the weekend, which happens tomorrow when I get home from work.

The sound for the sub hitting the playfield is temporary. Does anyone have any good suggestions of a good sound? Use the Tone Toy and fiddle around.
AUDC1=? : AUDF1=?
Two more weeks until January, should have it out in January.

Here's the latest binary file. I changed the ET/Pac-Man level and expanded the last level into 2. I tried, but I couldn't squeeze both words of "The End" into one, so now "The" is the second-to-last level and "End" is the last. Since I made the ET/Pac-Man level harder, I moved it to third-to-last. R. Jones gave me a couple mazes for the contest and I'll add either one or both into the game today so look for it either later today or tomorrow.

So see what you think of them. To activate the time limits, set the left difficulty switch to A at the title screen. Has anyone found the Easter egg yet? Here's a hint: It contains my name.

Loser
By atari2600land,
I got this Beck single "Loser," Loser being the hit song from his first commercial album "Mellow Gold." It has 4 songs that I have never heard before (and I am a huge Beck fan and have most of his albums.) "Corvette Bummer" sounds like something that would come off his latest album "The Information", "Alcohol" is Beck singing while playing guitar, while a rejected version of "Soul Suckin Jerk" runs a little over 6 minutes and "Fume" is one of the weirdest Beck songs I have ever heard. It ends at about 2 1/2 minutes, then there's about a half a minute of background talking and the rest is electric guitar playing. All in all, the best $4.50 of Beck music I ever spent. Also got my mom a Christmas present of the Dave Clark Five's greatest hits LP, but she was there with me when I bought it (I'm going to buy her something she doesn't know about, too.)

First of all, I got rid of the missile firing. Just in case a lot of you clamor for it back, I've saved a backup of the 12-11-06a version. Second, now that the missiles are gone, I've slimmed it down to 8k. Before while it was technically 16k, in reality, it was only about 9k. 8k is a bit more reasonable for me to handle because there's only 2 banks instead of 4, which means, well, I'm lazy. I have managed to fit everything else in 8k with 262 bytes left in bank 1 and 762 bytes left in bank 2, which means I have a little bit more room for a few more mazes. And I have to rearrange the mazes, take a few out, put a few more in, and I'd really like your people's help with this because I hope to put this in the store. Since it's 8k, it's probably going to be $25 and I want people to get their money's worth (isn't it that 4k games are $20 and anything bigger $25?) So here's the stuff I still need to work on:
-rearrange levels (need input)
-set reasonable time limits on game A (also need input)
-recolor mazes
-put some more mazes in
-make longer title screen song (possibly)

He
By atari2600land,
I've always wondered what this song was about, ever since I first saw the title of it on the internet a few years back. Well, I ran across it at a flea market and bought it. Thinking it was something like "He stole my chick away, he is going to pay" you know, something like that, it was a big let down to learn that the "He" he is referring to is none other than God. Ah well, now to find "If" by Perry Como. Actually, "If" is a pretty popular song title. Bread recorded a different song called If, and Pink Floyd recorded an even different song called If (on the Atom Heart Mother album.) And, Janet Jackson recorded a song called If, but I don't know if it's a remake of a song I mentioned or not. Guess I could look the lyrics up on the internet. My mom has a tape of Paula Abdul with a song called "U." Also, I have an Arrested Development album with a song called "U" on it. The U in both cases is a 90's spelling of the word 'you'. I'll have a lot of time to work on GoSub this weekend (the million-dollar question is will I?)

We're supposed to have a big windstorm Thursday night. The biggest one of the season so far (or so they say.) And we just had a big windstorm last month! Anyway, I couldn't get on to the Internet last night because Mom was waiting for someone to call, so I just played a couple rounds of Midnight Magic and went to bed early. They cut off the water in the park today. They said it'd be back on by 3 pm. Here it is 3:20 and it's still off. Well, anyway, that's it for today, unless I think of something else before I go to bed tonight.

I've had it with the constant ringing noise, so I put in an option at the title screen. If you don't want it, press Up at the title screen. If you pressed up and decide you want it back again, press Down. Simple, huh?

In this .bas file, (bank 3 is the one I'm working on right now), v represents what level you're on. To proceed to the next level, I put in v=v+1 once you get the treasure. But after the last level, I put in 'if v>16 then goto 4 bank1' (the title screen), and it won't work. I've tried putting it in various places, and still nothing. I put in 'if v=17 then goto 4 bank 1' and that didn't work either. It's like the stupid program won't listen to what I'm telling it to do! Argh! Anyway, help!
EDIT: I helped myself. Turns out I accidentally erased a line of programming that told the beep to go one more screencount, therefore that's why the beep was shorter and it didn't go back to the title screen. Duh.

The top 3 puzzle games for the NES (because there aren't that many.)
Tetris 2 - In my opinion, better than Dr. Mario. It has more block shapes than just one pill.
Puzznic - A rare and underrated puzzle game with about 100 fixed puzzles involving moving blocks and matching them up by color and making them disappear.
Pipe Dream - Make pipes so the ooze can ooze out in them instead of getting the board all messy.
Well, there you have it. What's your favorite NES puzzle games? I'd love to hear them.

...well, technically, it's the ball, but I did make it so the suibmarine can fire! The missiles don't really do anything right now, but they might do something later. You press fire to fire the missile in the direction you're heading.

About two years ago that summer, I was in a horrible job training site at an onion factory. (They also took in other veggies.) The onions smelled horrible and overpowering. The only upside is there were two cute girls I worked with. Well, anyway, fast-forward two years later, and I'm at another job training site. And who should be working there but one of the girls that was with the onion factory with me! Small world, huh? Well, anyway, our first conversation went like this:
her :'I remember you!'
me :'Rainsweet.' (the name of the factory.)
her: 'Yeah, the onion factory.'
me: 'That was horrible.'
her: 'Yeah.'
So, the lesson here is if someone offers you a job at a factory that processes onions, DO NOT TAKE IT!

Added a whole buncha things, including a timer, and fixed the select switch problem (well, I didn't fix the select switch problem, Michael Rideout did.) To turn on the timer, put the left difficulty on A and a clock will appear (instead of an H). Right now, the default settings are 30 seconds for every maze, but that will change depending on what mazes are added/subtracted. Also, improved the "ping" noise. This'll be the last update for today, will work on this game some more tomorrow. Among the things to do is start the timer counting when the sub moves.
EDIT: Forgot to upload the file! Starting the timer counting when the sub moves added.

Got diagonals working in Minigame. Got minigame back up and running. To get to it, press the select switch and then reset switch. Got 'ping' varying in volume like a real sonar (maybe, tell me what you think). Slight bug in that if you press the select switch in the "GOSUB" title screen, you can't get it back to 0. So just restart the emulator to change between game 0 & 1 (sorry. )Here's some simple instructions:
to exit minigame, press select switch
to exit game over screen in minigame, press reset switch
to start minigame, press fire
I'll work on this later today and hopefully have an updated version tomorrow.

Edtris
By atari2600land,
I'm good at Edtris. At least I think so. I've gotten 442 lines so far as my top score, but I think I can do way better than that, because my hands were starting to go numb. The way I type is bad, with my wrists resting underneath the keyboard. I'm surprised I don't have carpal tunnel syndrome (knocks on wood.) It's pretty boring because there's no SFX or music, but all I have to do to make music is put in a Godspeed You! Black Emperor CD and play it. In other news, I have been preparing to go back to "work" by going to sleep at 9:30 and waking up at 5, so that's about 7.5 hours of sleep, which is pretty good. Lately, I've been getting 11 or 12, so I'm pretty sleepy right now, as it's 6:38 AM. Later, I get to go to Game Crazy and see what new things they have. Wish me luck!

Well, here's what I have so far: A brand-new Gosub, this time I'm sticking with it and only it until I get a 32k version. I don't know when or if Batari will release said version where I can put playfield info in every bank instead of the last one, so it may be a while before you see another update. Right now I've got a little under 500 bytes to spare with 15 mazes, the beginnings of a password system, b/w-color and left difficulty are operating (game select is kinda. Right now, if you set it on game 1, you'll get one hit counted towards your total score, but later it will be to select the Ants-type mini-game, which I can't program right now cuz I'll probably need more than 500 bytes.) The only password (or should I say pass number) is "53", which will get you to level 10. Please tell me what you think so far.

I think I'll have to wait until the release of the version of bBasic with playfield graphics in every bank, but I want to make a 32k bBasic game! And I think GoSub would be the perfect idea. Just think, dozens of mazes for the sub to navigate through, along with an Ants-style minigame. Now THAT would be cool. And, what's more, it might be actually good enough to sell in the store. That would be really cool!
I have to finish up job training that I abandoned, so that means less free time starting Monday, and I'll finish by January 12th. Luckily, I get two days off (Christmas and New Years) and I won't have to worry about getting MLK Jr. Day off because I'll be done by the time that's here.

When I was a kid, whenever the HBO Theme song (played before a movie) would come on, that thing scared the heck outta me. I remember one time, I was watching it with my family and I was so scared I had to hide behind the couch. It wasn't the theme itself, but what was on the screen while the theme was playing. The HBO logo creeped ever closer. I must have figured in my kid brain that the logo was going to jump out of the TV screen and come kill me. Since then, I've fallen in love with the music playing (said theme.) I've even taught myself how to play it on the piano. Now, HBO is long gone, (but my sister has it.) and we have like 60 cable channels (opposed to around 25 back then.), but the theme song will always stay with me (especially since I've burned it onto a DVD. )

The schools here are two hours late, as there is ice in various spots (not where I am, though.) Mom said there was lots of ice downtown. It must have snowed a bit last night as there is around half-an-inch on the ground (some of it melted earlier.) It's been snowing *very* lightly the past 15 minutes or so, but I think it stopped now. The snow advisory continues until 10 am Pacific. There could be more snow Wednesday night into Thursday, so we'll just have to see about that.

It's sticking! And with snow expected tonight, there's going to be even more! But I think the Weather Channel is extremely wrong. They say it's a rain snow mix and 37 right now, while Northwest Cable News (a local news network) say it's 32 and snowing. Someone is wrong here, and I think it's TWC. I'll post some beautiful pictures tomorrow. Right now, there's a half-inch sticking to grass and barkdust, and kinda slushy on the roads (well, the least traveled roads, anyway, my cul-de-sac has slush, but the main road is clear.)

...but not sticking. We had a light dusting this morning on the barkdust, but now it seems to be disappearing, as the sun is shining now. It's supposed to snow again tonight (or so they say). The Weather Channel didn't have the word "rain" in tonight's description, while it did have the word "snow." We'll see how much snow comes tonight into tomorrow. If it doesn't have about an inch, I'll post the pics I took earlier this morning tomorrow. Right now it's 34, so while it still could snow some more, right now the sun is out, so the snow will begin to melt, with (hopefuly) more snow coming tonight.

I thought since most people know me as atari2600land, I think I'll tell you a little bit more about myself. My name is Chris, and I live in a trailer park (as mentioned earlier), with my mom (although I pay her rent). Salem, Oregon, the town I'm in, has about 150,000 people, and is about 50 miles south of the big town in Oregon, Portland. It's also about 50 miles to the Pacific Ocean, and the beautiful Lincoln City. I have brown hair, brown eyes and I'm currently trying to grow a mustache. No piercings, no tattoos (I don't like hurting myself for the sake of "beauty" ) Currently I have 82 Atari 2600 games. I have every Nintendo system except the Virtual Boy and the Wii, and about 200 games for those systems. I have a dog and a cat. Zeke the dog is a stupid Lhasa Apso and is 8 years old. Nicki, the tortoise shell cat is 14 years old and very energetic.
