Sorry, I just can't. I just finished watching Reservoir Dogs. It's a great movie. If you haven't watched it before, you should definitely rent it sometime (if you're over 18.) It's about some gangsters and a hold-up gone wrong, and one of the gangsters is a cop. And the ending is very surprising. Well, anyway, I stayed up tweaking Bad Gorf some more. I added sound of shots fired, sound of things getting hit, and animated sparks for when you hit the big ship's hole in the third level. Of course, I don't know why I'm still working on it when only one person has downloaded it. Guess for just my own amusement. I'm thinking of making this a timed game. Like if you don't complete a level within a certain amount of time (right now, I'm thinking 60 seconds should be enough), the game is over. That should let me have the score (at the start) be 60AA00, A being blank. That's my biggest priority. Second is to design a different ship and color for level 2 because right now it looks like you're shooting hamburger patties. It was just temporary. If there's a couple more downloads on this thing (remember, I'm doing this just for fun, that's why I haven't posted this thing in the Batari BASIC forums), I'll post an update once I get the timer thing figured out.

I've tweaked Bad Gorf enough to make it (hopefully) somewhat playable. You'll notice the graphics are bad and there's no noise. I'll fix those problems if I get a "keep going with this game" type of response. Of course, if everyone thinks it's really bad (like the name implies), I'll just find something else to do. Maybe I'll take on Astroshoot again. I'll have to post this comment in the Batari Basic forum when I get around to it: in a future edition of Batari Basic, it would be really nice if you could choose the shape of a ball or missile. I think I might have seen a custom missile in a very early Batari Basic game, but I don't know how to do that. I should ask. I can't make the dots of the letters on the title screen connect because unfortunately I'm using both missiles. Oh well. I'm baring my soul, but here goes:
EDIT: You'll also notice that in level 2, there's no penalty for getting hit by or failing to shoot a spaceship. If I get a positive or neutral reply about this game, those are among the first things I'll fix.

Added a third level (which is the second level in the game). In this one, spaceships try to ram you and when you shoot five of them, you go to the third level. I also made the difficulty increase once you're done with all three levels. And I also added a title screen, which has to be as ugly as it is because I can't use no_blank_lines because I'm using both missiles in the game (missile1 makes up a square in the first level and the end of the spaceship in the last level. Missile0 is your missile you shoot.) Here's some more screenshots of Bad Gorf.

The stupidest holiday of the year is Monday. That's right, it's Columbus Day here in America. Why is it so stupid? The only people that get it off are the feds, and that means no mail. Other than that, everything is normal. State workers still have to go to work, schools are open, etc. Just no mail. Don't know whether the stock market is open or not, but who cares? Here's the thing that makes me angry about this: If we're making Columbus Day a holiday, why not actually celebrate it? Why not close schools and stuff? Oh well, guess Columbus Day will still be known as "No Mail Day."

Though I haven't played Mario Vs. DK 1 for the Game Boy Advance, I just got Mario Vs. DK 2 for the DS. I'm going to play it more in-depth later, but I just played the first three rooms and I must say it's really good so far. The game isn't a typical Mario game, it's more like Lemmings in which you guide these wind-up Mario toys to an exit door. I also got two bags of potato chips. Yum. And the main reason I go to Wal-Mart to get these last two games is because it's right down the street from me.

Beck's new album, The Information, is really wonderful. What really makes it great is track 15 (you heard right), the last track, oddly titled "The Horrible Fanfare/Landslide/Exoskeleton. The first five minutes are an actual song, and the last 5 minutes are like bonus noise (with people talking about spaceships and changes). The track itself is 10 minutes and 36 seconds and reminds me of the music of Godspeed You Black Emperor. The list of trax:
1. Elevator Music
2. Think I'm In Love
3. Cellphone's Dead
4. Strange Apparition
5. Soldier Jane
6. Nausea
7. New Round
8. Dark Star
9. We Dance Alone
10. No Complaints
11. 1000 BPM
12. Motorcade
13. The Information
14. Movie Theme
15. The Horrible Fanfare/Landslide/Exoskeleton
The cover is basically graph paper, and it comes with a whole bunch of stickers so, like they say, you can design your own cover. Beck is getting more eccentric, because this album includes such "instruments" as a Speak-n-Spell, Tote-A-Tune, and a Gameboy. It also includes a DVD which I haven't watched yet. So I definitely reccomend you buy this CD. (Of course, I am one of Beck's biggest fans.) Also, I'm working on a 10-minute long MIDI of my own composition inspired by "Horrible Fanfare" (don't know what to call it yet, I have a little over 2 minutes done.)

Well, I have to go back and get all 4 wisdom teeth pulled and 4 cavities filled. He filled one today, and it wasn't that bad, just gave me some novocain. I just had a thought: I'm gonna have to have 8 novocain shots on my next visit! Owee! My mouth is numb in the spot where he filled one of my fillings now, just multiplying that numbess times 7 is sickening. I don't want to think about it. Also, I apparently have gum disease. Yay. Now I have to brush and floss 3 times a day (instead of none, but I didn't tell him that. I just started brushing once a day recently.) If you're my dentist, you didn't see that stuff in parentheses My question is: Why do they call them wisdom teeth when they're stupid? I mean, they grow in and then they take them out. What is the purpose? At least I'll get some Atari 2600 games in the mail this week. That should cheer me up a little.

The Vietnam War. Nixon resigning. Mt. St. Helens blowing its top. New Year's Day 2000. These are just some of the memories that my grandparents kept in the form of newspapers. Went over to my grandpa's and borrowed them so I could scan them in my scanner (because they really need to be.)
Also, my latest hobby seems to be collecting black Tengen NES games. I have 5 so far, just got one today (RBI Baseballs 1 & 2, Klax, Vindicators, and Super Sprint). I also got Monster Party which is supposed to be really weird, and a few others, which means I have right now about 85 or so NES games. Now I've got to go play them, so see ya tomorrow.

Here's a fresh new idea blending calculators and video games (and when I mean "fresh" I mean "stupid".) Introducing Calcgames! Now, since I don't have the ability to reprogram calculators, I've put my ideas onto Atari 2600 emulators. And since these are to be played on calculators, they're not all that in-depth. In fact, they're more time-wasters than games. This first one, Eat Man, is you feed the mouth by pressing left, but only when the mouth is open. There are two faster levels. In case you have no idea what I'm talking about, here's a calculator configuration:
_
| |
_
| |
_
That's the number 8 on a calculator, which uses all 7 lines. The way calculators are set up is they only display numbers, but with a configuration like that, they could also make symbols and stuff, like the ones in this binary file.
My idea may be stupid, but it's also new and weird. Take a look. Press up to start.

I was playing Astroshoot and I was thinking that the hit detection between player0 and player1 was off, so I looked at the code and realized that I didn't check for a collision right after player0 moved to the right or left (in essence while player0 was moving left or right into a rock.) So I changed that and added some playfield colors. And yes, I know that there's already an Astrosmash version for the 2600, I just wanted to make something like that.

I'm working on an Astrosmash clone using Batari BASIC. This is just a rough draft I spent about half the day working on. I'll change the background, maybe do some multicolored sprites, hear what other people have to say about it. BTW, I'd like to hear comments on this. Is it too easy? Too hard? Etc. Here ya go.

, or as far as I want it done. This masterpiece, my best yet, was created in a little more than 24 hours. Of course, if anyone finds any major bugs, I will fix them, but otherwise, put a fork in it because it's done. And with a little less than 100 bytes to spare. I added a 3rd level based on the episode SB-129. It's the last place where Squidward ends up, only SpongeBob is there instead. The weird place with the white background and the squares. SB-129 is one of my favorite SpongeBob episodes.

Argh!
By atari2600land,
Continuing with the onomotopeia theme I have with these blog titles, I went to the flea market and there were NO Atari games. Not only that, there were no games period, sans a few electronic hand held things.
I'm working on a SpongeBob SquarePants game with Batari Basic. It's going to be like a cross between Road Runner and my old Hurdles game. In this level shown here, SpongeBob must jump over the jellyfish, based on the "Nature Pants" episode. There's going to be a second level in which you're in the Krusty Krab and you'll jump over Plankton and his family, based on another episode in which Plankton gathers his whole family and tries to get the Krabby Patty secret formula. And if you don't watch SpongeBob, forget everything I said and just look at this.

By atari2600land,
What a night. I spent almost all of it trying to figure out my stupid Music Maker thing I'm making. Then, once I notice it's 3 AM, I try to go to sleep, only to start having acid reflux. Now, I never have it, and I figure the only reason I had it (it's over now) is because I started eating those microwavable hash browns. Well, anyway, I didn't get to sleep until 5 AM and I woke up at about 12:45 PM. BTW, I have made a little progress on my Music Maker program. Check the attachment out. Now all I need to do is figure out how to make the fire button act like a finger pressing a piano key. The little gold guy is a cursor of sorts and I want to make him sit on the key once you press the fire button.
Anyway, one more day until the big event: A real-life, actual flea market in my town! And I'm hoping to find at least 1 Atari 2600 game. If I see one, I'll be happy. If I see one I don't have, I'll be really happy and buy it (unless it's like a bajillion dollars.)

I changed my avatar again. Now it is Kool-Aid Man! Everyone loves this guy! On a Robot Chicken episode, someone shot Kool-Aid Man and his juice began pouring out. That was really funny. I've always wondered what happened if you drank the juice inside him. Would he die, or just be running around being an empty pitcher? I have a Kool-Aid plastic pitcher, the Kool-Aid Man video game, and a blue cup in Kool-Aid Man's likeness. I drank a lot of this when I was a kid. IIRC my sister tried to use it to die her hair once, don't remember what happened, though.
In other news, my plan to redo all the 1977 releases using Batari BASIC is coming along. Hopefully, someone can fix my shooting problems in Combatari. Next up is Indy 500. I have a screenshot for that, and some problems I'd like fixed in it (but we'll get to that once someone fixes my Combatari problem, either that or I get tired of waiting for someone to fix my Combatari problem.) I don't know how I'll do Blackjack, though. Right now I'm just thinking of a random number generator sort of thing following Blackjack rules, unless someone can come up with something better.

-Just 3 more days until an ultra-rare flea market comes to my town! I doubt there will be any Atari 2600 games, but you never know.
-Space Bacon is closer to coming to the AtariAge store. Just sent Albert the binary file & label artwork (the beautiful artwork made by neotokeo, I just cleaned it up a little.)
-I must disobey the grocery shopping rule: Never go when you're hungry. I don't have any food (Well, I have food, but I don't want it.) I am definitely going to pig out when I get back from grocery shopping
Well, I must go now & stuff my face full of fattening foods.

Long story short, my computer died. So I had to get a new one, which I did, and frankly, it's quite slow on the Internet, probably needs to get all the cookies back on it. So I'm back and ready to blog again. Probably will write some more stuff tomorrow, as I need to get all the stuff I had on the other one back on here.

Yes, I did a little more DXing last night, and what a night it was. From Salem, Oregon, I got an AM station from Denver, Colorado (KOA), my farthest so far. Also got another station from Vancouver, BC (CKNW) which at the time was playing old radio shows from the 40s, even though it's a news-talk station. Weird. Well, that makes 11 stations so far I've taped from various parts of the western U.S. If anyone is interested in my DX log, I'll put it in a blog in the next few days.

The always off-center Rare, after seeing the success of Donkey Kong Country on the Super Nintendo, brought their fancy computer-generated graphics to the Game Boy. The result: drastic changes to Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong, including no more of both of them being on the screen at the same time, and, of course, now they're only 4 colors instead of a whole bunch of them. But the nice gameplay is still there. It's actually not a bad game at all. DKC on the go. It's different levels, too, which is kind of nice for a change. Of course, the worlds don't have names, there's no Funky's Flights, and the only way to save your game is to get the K-O-N-G letters, which means that if I want to save your game, I have to go back to the first level (I'm not very good at video games.) And, instead of the same old boring gray cartridge, it comes in a shocking yellow one, and so does Donkey Kong Lands 2 & 3 (and Pokemon Yellow, but I don't play Pokemon.) It's Super Game Boy enhanced, but all you get is a tree background. Donkey & Diddy are actually colored when you play it on a Game Boy Color or Game Boy Advance.

Do you know how hard it is to kill one of those stupid things? I didn't have any idea it was in the house, I just saw it for less than five seconds and then stepped on it. Bam. It died. Yay me! I hate it when huge flying insects get in the house. I had to kill a bee in the house this summer. A bee! And they can sting you! Luckily, it was behind the window curtain and I squished it without getting stung. Hopefully it will get to be below freezing soon so all the stupid insects can die and not get in my house for a few months. That's one of the things that makes winter way better than summer: No stupid insects. Yeah, I'm a wimp, I know, but insects are just icky!

We won!
By atari2600land,
Last night something wonderful happened. My team, the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, won the 2006 NWL Championship! Since I live in Salem, I kinda have no choice but to root for them. The NWL, for those who don't know, is a minor-league baseball league (NorthWest League), consisting of 8 teams. Our major league affiliate (sponsor of sorts), is the San Francisco Giants. This is the third time the team has won the championships since the team started up 10 years ago. We also ended the season with the best record overall at 55 wins & 21 losses. Finally, I have a team that's good to root for after the Blazers sucking all the time

If I seemed eerily silent on the forums last night, it's because I was over at my dad's again. And he doesn't have an internet connection (well, he has a phone line and a computer, but no internet.) I replied to a few topics and a PM, but if you haven't read those, I'm back. A little bit more about the Dr. Evil game: I found a Pac-Man-style game (Mojo Maze), an Othello-style game, a Motocross Maniacs-style game, and a Rock-Paper-Scissors game. I like the Pac-Man game the best. The mazes are huge on this thing and there's more than one level! I just beat level 2 and next is a third level. Well, anyway, he got me a medium Figaro's pizza for dinner and breakfast at Jack-In-The-Box, and it looks like I have to go on a fast for a few days (whoopee.) The new season of the Simpsons starts tonight (the 18th season!) with a new episode. That should be fun. I don't really know how to end these blog entries, so I guess I'll just end it now.

You know how I always complain about how there's never a flea market where I am? Well, they're having one in my city on Sunday the 24th! I am SO excited and hopefully I will get some Atari games! It's at the State Fairgrounds, so I'm hoping it's a big one. In other news, I got Barnstormer in the mail today. I first played this game in Activision Anthology and liked it. So I thought, why not get it for my actual 2600? So I did. Yes, I know it's pathetic how I have to get common carts on the internet. They used to have them at the Game Crazy on Lancaster, and now they have 3 or 4 and I have all of them, so why bother? (I think they have Pac-Man, Casino and Street Racer IIRC). BTW, I'm still working on a secret game for batari BASIC and I'll put an early first version on the batari BASIC forum on October 1, so look forward to it (or not, whatever.)

I got 17,000 legit points in Crossbow. I did. I did absolutely nothing wrong and played by the rules. I should have known better than to post that 33,000 score. Because usually, I find weird things in video games, like how to not bounce on the fruit stand covers in Super Mario Sunshine, how to have all three players in Wheel of Fortune be controlled by the computer, you know, weird stuff like that. This is the first day I've played Crossbow. The control is horrendous, some of the stage are very difficult because of the control and the fact that the items to shoot are really tiny, but other than those two things, it's not such a bad little game. And by the way, the title of this blog is a take on the classic novel "The Ox-Bow Incident." And, this is the first time I've done two blogs in one day. So there.

I played the 1-player Vs. Mode of Mario Kart DS, all 32 tracks in a row today, and ended up with a grand total of 302 points, totally kicking the computer's butt, and on 150cc Hard Mode, too, with the second place computer-controlled player getting 250 points. I must say that Mario Kart DS is my second favorite Mario Kart game (my favorite MK game being Mario Kart 64). Also, it's the most interesting, and with new features. Since I won't be getting a Wii (too much money), this is probably the last Mario Kart game I'll be getting for a while, and I love it. And, it's portable! So I can play it while laying on the couch while Mom watches her stupid news shows. Of course, the closest game on the 2600 to Mario Kart is Pole Position (which will probably show up on next month's Top 10 list since I forgot it even existed.) Pole Position has excellent graphics. I think I remember playing a Pole-Position like game in an arcade about 10 years ago or so. I wasn't all that impressed with it back then (because Super Mario Kart was all the rage in the racing genre.), but man, I wish I knew what it was because it looked like Pole Position on the 2600. And what's the deal with Pole Position computer-controlled players, anyway? Why would they want to crash into you? You'd figure they would want to win the race, too, and they're certainly not going to win if they're in a big wreck (notice that Grand Prix is #1 in my 9/06 top 10 list.) If people like watching NASCAR just for the wrecks, why not come over and watch me play Pole Position? There's a lot more wrecks to see. Geez.
