Got a spam email from someone claiming to be the NY State DMV about a parking ticket. It helps that I live in Oregon...

I have been receiving these lately also. At first I thought it was real because the missus and I spent the 10 days back east in the beginning of October. I am from Oregon also.

My Uncle posted some very authentic looking speeding tickets and sent them to his friends and family. It wasn't until you read the fine print at the bottom that you saw it was a birthday invitation

Adventures of the 50-foot-tall Stalk of Celery
atari2600land replied to atari2600land's topic in batari Basic
Well, after fiddling around with the code for a few more hours, I think I finally have an 8k version. Please tell me if there are any bugs. I know, the music has been sped up. Please tell me if you like it or if I should slow it down. In the quest of making this 8k, I somehow altered the way the pigs move, so I have changed the time limit to 70 seconds to accomodate this unwanted change. Anyway, here it is. 50celery9.bas.bin 50celery9.bas -
Bought a few games from him, everything went nice and smoothly.

List updated & bump.
-
I was hoping it was the cause of my program being more than 262 scanlines.

I got the same message, too, unfortunately. Can anyone look through my code and find out what the problem is? Mine is at f523. 50celery9.bas

Adventures of the 50-foot-tall Stalk of Celery
atari2600land replied to atari2600land's topic in batari Basic
Well, level 1 is completed. An even 32 screens (even, at least in computer talk), so it should be finishable with about 1 or 2 seconds on the clock, the time limit I put on the level is 67 seconds. Let me know if I need to change that. Also, to end the level, you touch the second item, called, oddly enough, the ender. Touching this will end the level. I'd like to make the level longer, but I need to leave room for an impressive title screen, which I have about 650 bytes left in the bank before I need to move on and try to make the cycle count be OK with more than one bank (I still don't understand why it would be different with two banks instead of one.) Level 2 will be a mud pit. And you know how much pigs like mud, but first I need to create a title screen. Any ideas on what it should do? Anyway, I was wondering, could I use the title screen kernel and still have missile1 be free to use? (I made the celery missile1 in case you haven't figured it out yet. This is why everything that is player1 green.) 50celery8.bas.bin 50celery8.bas -

Added a new thing: Items! The first item is a moldy pretzel (continuing with the foods that taste like cardboard theme.) If you nab it, you'll be granted invisibility from those pigs for ten seconds (although you can still fall in a hole and die.) For the longest time I had trouble making the scanline count be a stable 262, but I think I did it this time. Thanks for the kind words thus far. 50celery7.bas.bin -
Earlier this year, I had made some comics using screenshots of Super Mario Bros. 1 for my SMB1 page (www.atari2600land.com/smb1), I can't put in links in my entry for some reason, the add link button freezes. Well, anyway, after six I couldn't think of any more, so the strip ended. Well, I'm resurrecting it, at least for two weeks beginning October 24. I think I had posted these on Mondays, so it will continue being Mondays. I was going through folders in my computer and ran across the six I had made. Since it is hard to control the game using a keyboard, I had put in Game Genie codes making it easier to get to any place in the game. It's a good thing you can press the z, x and left or right keys, all three, at the same time.

Anything $20 and under. I paid $20 for Caveman, so that's the most I want to pay for one.

Added a little tune. What do you think of it? 50celery6.bas.bin 50celery6.bas -
I'm going to fix tuna fish and put mayo and some sliced onion in it.
-
I hear breeding fish is quite rewarding too (in case you need some suggestions once you fix it) The trick is that they are VERY slippery so hang on tight when you breed with them.

Adventures of the 50-foot-tall Stalk of Celery
atari2600land replied to atari2600land's topic in batari Basic
I made it more like SMB1 where when you start (actually I played a bit of Super Mario Land to get a feel for how I want the game to scroll right), you go to the center of the screen to make the game go right. You can go left, but only to the left edge of the screen. I'm just wondering how long to make the level so it can be completed in less than 99 seconds. I'm thinking maybe 30 screens long (right now it's at 9) because I can get to the end of this with about 75 seconds left on the clock. And the pigs are faster, so you might need to go left and jump over to avoid them (because collision detection on the pigs has been activated.) What do you think? 50celery5.bas.bin 50celery5.bas -
There's just something that strikes me as amusing about really tall stalks of celery. In 1994 (when I was just a kid) I wrote a comic book called "Attack of the 49 foot 11 3/4 inch Celery." In 2006, I started up "Adventures of the 50-foot-tall Stalk of Celery" for my own amusement. On the back of one of them was an advertisement for a fictional game about the celery. I saw that and figured, well why *not* make a game out of it? So I started going to work making a Mario-style platform based off the comic book. You control the stalk (Mr. Celery as he's called in the comic book). So I'm making this for the 2600 using bB (the only way I know how to make 2600 games.) and started a thread about the game in the Batari Basic forum. It's in its very early stages. Level 1 is a bridge level over water, albeit a very long bridge. And on this bridge are pigs. Ravenous pigs charging at the celery. Jump over them and they'll keep running, away from you. Stupid pigs.

Removed the option to go left. It was maddening me to no end to make it the way I wanted it (I'm a perfectionist) and figured that it wasn't really necessary, so it got axed. In return, scrolling is much more smoother now when going right. I don't know what I could do about adding another bank, right now if I make it 8k and just put the vblank in the second bank, it needs more cycles for some reason. Anyone want to look at the code and modify it to make it 8k and figure that out? I'll try again once the first bank has been filled. I also added a timer, so when the level is done being programmed, you have 99 seconds to complete it and 3 lives. 50celery3.bas.bin 50celery3.bas -

Hi all. Big update for the celery. I've added some actual water, and an enemy: a pig. He grunts whenever he's on screen. Also I've added sound effects for the celery jumping. Enjoy! 50celery2.bas.bin 50celery2.bas -
It's a side-scrolling Mario-type game where you can move left or right. This is the beginning, a test to see whether I could do this, so I guess i can, so I'm going to continue. Right now, I'm working on level 1, which is the bridge level. Watch out because there are gaps in the bridge. I haven't programmed this game very far, so there's not a lot to do, but this will change as I add in enemies and make more of the level. 50celery1.bas.bin 50celery1.bas

For a few years, I have gotten stuff from Alpha Video with no worries or anything about stupid "bugs" as they call them, put on the screen to identify where the video came from. But they marred Captain Video with the stupid things! It's only there though, when the words "CAPTAIN VIDEO" are on the screen. If they made it so you can't rip the DVDs, then why bother putting that stupid bug on there? It's not like you can somehow get the video off the disc and put it onto YouTube or something. And since they made it impossible to do, they really should do away with the famous FBI warning screens warning people it's illegal to copy the discs. HELLO! YOU CAN'T! YOU MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE! I bet they did the same things to the other DVD I got. Anyway, I only watched one episode so far. It's like that other one I saw on YouTube, with the poor audio/video quality. I could barely make out what the people were saying! If that was the quality of TV back in the '50s, I would have been very depressed. Anyway, I don't want to go through the hassle of getting a new chair for my room. It's a wooden chair, so it's kind of uncomfortable to sit on for long periods of time unless I am deep in work on a program or something so I don't notice it. I guess I want to support Alpha for bringing these old shows from the DuMont Network onto DVD, but less so if they put the damn stupid bugs at the beginning and ends of the programs. I get to go to a flea market at about 8am, so wish me luck. Last time I was there, I did find a few video game related things, but I passed because they were mostly stupid sports titles and stuff I had or didn't want. I already have an NES Game Genie, the same one I used since I was a kid. Unfortunately, they don't work on the newer models for some reason. I always wondered Nintendo's stance on those things. You'd think it would make them happy to increase the sales of their video games. Look, in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's a stupid Alpha Video bug!

But what if, in my example, I make it so p can't be higher than 7? -
why can't I do this: p=(player0x-57)/4 if o{1} && k>9 && a{p} then k=0 : l=0 : m=0 : n=0 and what is a workaround to it?

Games that mention other games
atari2600land replied to boxpressed's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Yep, you're right. I beat the game yesterday when I got another copy of it. I guess I just forgot the Bye bye part or just didn't think it was that important. I like your take on why the princess said that, btw.
