  1. Oh great, yet another update site to get used to. Why can't things just always stay the same around here?

How do you expect things to get broken and harder to use without upgrades?

Why click once to do things when three clicks are more fun? We also get to scroll down to "topics I participated in" every freakin' time. Wheee! That's much better than a simple "my content" link. Clicking once to get what you want is so Web 2.0! More clicks and more scrolling is what we need!

  2. I finally got some time to play this one. My highest score so far is 57.
  3. Landmark weather-related day today: Had to turn the furnace on for the first time this year

You didn't have the furnace on in January and February? :D

  4. Hi, I just got back from spending two nights at Surftides in Lincoln City, Oregon. It's a hotel right next to the ocean, which the majority of hotels in the town are. Lincoln City is also home to the D River, the world's smallest river. The first night I couldn't sleep at all (diarrhea), and the second night I couldn't sleep at all either (insomnia). I slept for about three or four hours while Mom went out shopping, and that's the only sleep I got the whole time I was there. We went beachcombing a few times and found some cool agates and shells and rocks and stuff. Went to the outlet mall, I bought a few books, one is Latin Crosswords, and the other is a little book of crosswords (this other book is English.) I don't think I can do any of the Latin ones, I just thought it was cool and only $3. Went to the Christmas store, couldn't find anything to buy there, but I did find three jack-o-lanterns in this antique store, which I thought was rather odd. Having only 5 hours of sleep in the last 48 hours, you'd think I'd be tired, but I'm not as wiped out as I should be. I shot some home movies, but the last two were kind of jittery because I hadn't had much sleep. Both nights I thought it was extremely hot in the hotel room. I usually sleep with a fan on in my room at home, but I forgot to take it because I thought I wouldn't need it. How wrong I turned out to be! In the hotel room there was something interesting. A Bible (the Gideons had "placed" there.) Not that I'm a religious man, but in the front before the real boring part (read: the whole thing) there was John 3:16 in a whole bunch of different languages. Bored, I decided to do Rot-13 and Telephone (not that those are actual languages, mind you.) Well, anyway, minus the no sleep part, it was a good trip.
  5. I was gone for two days. Did I miss anything?

Atari Joe lost his virginity, but found it again the next day.

  6. I got to wondering how poorly made these things are, so I bought a couple. This was a few years ago, and I stumbled across them recently and gave one a spin. This particular one I'm "reviewing" is called Horror Sounds by an unlikely source: Easter Unlimited. (I guess you can't put out an Easter CD because rabbits don't make any noise.) This thing has 76 tracks, ranging from a few seconds to a few minutes. At the end is what they call "Horror Sounds Compilation" which runs about 16 minutes long. You can tell this one's low budget. Some of the shorter tracks are of a man screaming, a woman screaming, fake maniacal laughter, etc. Two of the more interesting tracks are music: an original organ composition along with the intro to Toccate in D Minor. There're three Satanic Sermons, which sound like they come from the Satanic Bible or something, along with a couple of storm sounds. Makes me wonder whether I can put together something like this. Well, anyway, I'm heading to the beach tomorrow for two nights, so I won't be able to access the internet. I have this jack-o-lantern-related collection, and there's this store in Lincoln City that sells holiday stuff year round (I wonder if it's still there.) I think the last time I went to the beach was 2002, so it's been awhile. And so I won't be able to read PMs of people trying to sell me Odyssey2 games, so don't get me wrong if I ignore you, it's because I can't access the internet at the beach. I wonder if I should get an iPhone or something...
  7. The only football game I played for an entire game is Realsports Football for the 2600. I have Madden '98 for the SNES, but bought it because it was one of the last games released for the system. The other football game I have is Football! for the Odyssey^2, but it looks complicated from the instruction booklet. I like watching it, but not so much playing it. My favorite teams are the Seattle Seahawks in the NFL and the U of O Ducks in college. My late grandpa graduated from Ohio State, so I used to watch a ton of Ohio State games whenever I went there on Saturdays.
  8. About an hour south of Portland is Game Crazy Lancaster in Salem. They have a whole bunch of classic as well as new used stuff. Game Gear, Dreamcast, NES, SNES, Game Boy, N64, etc. It's really a neat little store, and has an Atari 2600 box as well as other not-for-sale stuff as decorations. Also Game Crazy South, but they have a lot less classic stuff. And me. I'm in Salem, too. come and I'll give you some stuff I no longer need!
  9. Yay! I will no longer have to record "Kate + 8" for my sister. It ended tonight.

  10. Well, I have decided to go the route of Solar Plexus. I just want to add another ant that bounces around the screen. I tried to do this on my own, but I epically failed. At least I got the second ant on the screen. I wonder how many sprites the Odyssey2 can have on the screen at once. I typed info for a third sprite using player2, and lo and behold it worked. If I ever get the hang of assembly and have an idea for a game using nothing but more than two sprites, I'll use the Odyssey2 instead of the 2600. I had AtariAge user "PACMAN RED" design some ant sprites for the game. They look amazing and much better than what I had designed. My side view one looked more like a three-legged horse than an ant. Mr. Red should have been a sprite designer for Atari or something back in the day. The top view one is the tan ant (the one you want to avoid. "Tan" is an anagram of "Ant"), and the side view one is the black ant which you need to get to increase your score. The only drawback to Odyssey2 sprites is that they can only be 8 pixels tall. Atari 2600 sprites have no limitation of tallness (well, except for the TV screen.) If I felt like it, I could design an Atari 2600 sprite that's 80 pixels tall. Both systems need pixels to be 8 pixels wide. Here's a screenshot of the new sprites. I actually designed a little 4-page manual in case this ever gets released.
  11. Why would Midway put "Bubbles" on its arcade hits compilation for the Dreamcast and not any other system? I can't figure out how to play that game.

Bubbles can also be found on the PSOne disc, Williams Arcade's Greatest Hits.

  12. OK, I have made some progress on my Ants! game thanks to the Videopac forums. This version is for the Odyssey^2, and if or when it ever gets completely finished, I'd like to sell it somehow. So, the score is perfect, the ant collision detection is working OK, and the walls are working (instead of the walls themselves, I limited it to the position the little green guy is in to make sure he doesn't even touch the walls.) But there's one problem: I want to know what I should do next. I'd like to limit this to 3k. I don't know how much space I have left. So, should I add in an enemy that chases you, or a timer, both perhaps? Anyway, you can see what I have at the official Ants! for the Odyssey 2 homepage. There you can download a ROM for an Odyssey 2 emulator as well as the source code so people like me who are just beginning assembly can look at it and hopefully find it useful. If this game seems familiar, it's because it was one of my first bB games, which eventually turned into the Alien Greed series. Here's a screenshot of the game so far in action.
  13. Hi, I want a CIB ChuChu Rocket for the Dreamcast, and an instruction manual for Hydro Thunder for the Dreamcast. PM me.
  14. I'd like the Tom Clancy one, but I have all the others...
  15. I just played one of my DS games in my collection for the first time today. I've also played a Bust-A-Move game for the first time today. I just played Bust-A-Move DS, and am disappointed that there is no high-score save. I have a hard time aiming the balls, so sometimes they don't go where I want them to. I think my longest game was 10 minutes or so on Endless. And, since there is no high-score saving, I don't know what score I got on my best game. I always thought "Gee, I wonder what Bust-A-Move is like", and then once I found out that I had it in my collection, I played it. I'm not going to be playing this again for a while because I don't really like it all that much. Also, my niece has borrowed 4 DS games, and I want them back. You'd think 4 out of 164 isn't very significant, but every little thing adds up and I hope to get at least 200 some day. And, on Sunday, only 2 more days until the latest uDraw Game Tablet game comes out for the Wii. Well, the DS is IMO dead, since there aren't going to be any new titles, I'll have to rely on what's already been released and look through lists of what's out there to see what's out there I don't have that looks even remotely interesting. I haven't been playing my DS lately, I'm just now getting back into it. It's a cool little system, and I wish Nintendo hadn't have brought out the 3DS to kill the regular DS. I mean, it's a flop, so if they decide to go the Virtual Boy route with the 3DS, what handheld titles will they be putting out?
  16. I think my very first thread was "which was worse: Pac-Man or E.T.?" All you guys said it was a lousy idea for a thread. Anyway, I like Pac-Man better than E.T. At least in Pac-Man you know what you're doing.
  17. Well, let me just start by saying my dad isn't doing so good, from what I can tell. And he doesn't tell very much. He said he got around to paying his outstanding debts to the clinic so he can go see a doctor again. When I asked him what was wrong, he simply said "everything." He's very hard to get information of himself out of. Well, anyway, to my systems I own list. Every Nintendo system (except 3DS) Sega Genesis (although I want to get rid of this, too.) Sega Saturn Sega Dreamcast Sega Game Gear Sony Playstation (although I want to get rid of this, too.) Atari 2600 Atari 800 Atari Lynx Atari Jaguar Tiger game.com Nokia N-Gage Magnavox Odyssey^2 I sold my Intellivision along with just one game to some AA member because it wasn't getting enough playing time from me. If you bought some INTV games from me recently, they just went in the mail today. My favorite console fluctuates from time to time. Sometimes it can be my Dreamcast, although right now it's the Odyssey^2. My 2600 always is on the floor near the TV just in case I feel like playing it. I sold a bunch of Lynx games, too, but I still have my favorites around in case I feel like playing it.
  18. Hey, all, I'm bringing this back! So plug in your UFO copy and play on. This round ends SEPTEMBER 22, 2011 @ 11:59pm Pacific. (An extra week for people to find this post!) Good luck!
  19. I noticed this while playing Thunderball! It seems as though my fire button isn't working the way it should. I kept pressing it and it wasn't doing anything. Finally I got it to do something, and I got frustrated, so I put in Pocket Billiards! to test it, and it seems like both fire buttons aren't working quite right. Is there any way to fix an Odyssey 2 fire button so it responds better?
  20. Qix for the Atari 800 is hard because it automatically creates a line if you're not in the border!

  21. I most want the following, but will take anything I don't have that doesn't require the Voice module. Alpine Skiing Hockey/Soccer Volleyball War of Nerves PM me if interested in selling any Odyssey 2 games.
  22. Hi, all, I'm going to take a vacation coming up next week. I will be traveling about 50 miles west to the Pacific Ocean in Lincoln City, Oregon. Here is where I'll be staying for two nights, so I won't be on the forums for about three or so days. I'm really excited about going, I don't even remember the last time I was at the beach. Check-in time is at 4pm (!) and check-out time is 11am, so I will be spending about 72 hours without the internet, seeing as how I don't have a smart phone. I was too young to remember staying at this particular hotel last time. It's just a thrill to me seeing the ocean and thinking about how wide it is and on the other side somewhere is Japan. I will also be going to the following places (if they're still around): There's this antique store in Lincoln City that I hope is still there. And also, there's this little store that sells Christmas stuff year-round, that I also hope is still there. I got an M&M garland tree decoration there last time. I'm hoping they will have Halloween stuff since it's coming soon, the Spirit Halloween store in Salem is going up. I collect jack-o-lantern-related items so I want a few. The most interesting items in my collection is the soap dispenser and the PEZ dispenser. My jack-o-lantern collection is on display year-round in my room on a shelf.
  23. Hello, I'm back again. Here's what I've got so far. I am wondering how the random number generator works, I'd need two values, for the different x and y values for the ant on the screen (I'm trying to make Ants! on the Odyssey^2 in case you're wondering.)
  24. Yes, I have no banana couches, I have no banana couches today.
