Aside from Combat, my first was Air/Sea Battle. Loved that game. Then maybe Asteroids. I know Adventure was an early buy as well. Pac Man and Yars Revenge didn't come until a year or so later.

What's the best way to store Atari 2600 games in their original boxes? I've got archival plastic bags, but should I be using anything to eliminate possible moisture that could accumulate inside the bag? My house stays pretty cool, but Florida is a humid place.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Yes, I do play from time to time, but just as importantly, I find myself collecting for the joy of just collecting. I have games that I've never opened and are just sitting there. The box artwork, manuals, comic books, etc. that come with the games are just as important to me as the gameplay itself. In fact, it might be even more so. For example, I know that the ET game sucks...I had it as a kid and it still sucks today, but the memory of such an iconic movie in a video game makes it a necessary collection item. Same with Raiders of the Lost Ark and Pac Man. I also have the Journey Escape game, not because its fun to play, but because I remember the artwork and playing that damn music cassette over and over again on car trips thinking about that hot 5th grade girl I was dreaming about holding hands with. Man have times changed for 5th graders!!
I also collect Commodore 64, Nintendo NES, and Colecovision all for the same reasons. If I can't physically go back in time, these games/consoles lend a hand mentally, if only for a short while in my busy life.
I'm sure that others feel the same way, but I was feeling a little nostalic tonight and thought that I'd get sentimental and look like a puss to you guys tonight. So, Merry Christmas to everyone and I'll go buy another game just for the hell of it!!

Sounds like a great collection. What would you say its worth in dollars?

Could someone please post a photo of an insert that slides into the box for 2600? A box was included in a purchase I made this weekend, and it seems the box insert fits a little tight. I'm trying to figure out if the box insert is really the correct one or just one the seller put in from something else. Thanks!
It sounds like the correct one. Mine is a little tight as well. You just have to be careful not to rip your antique around the corners when taking it in and out. I have a 7800 that I use for 2600 carts most of the time. Its real easy to get the unit in and out of the box where I don't have to take my 2600 out unless I'm really hankering for a night of nostalgia!

I have an Atari Heavy Sixer with Box. Its the 1977 chess head box as well and is in really good shape.

I'll buy one pair of them from you. How much do you want? PM me. Thanks!

I expected alot more from the 5200 version of this game. The 2600's graphics is ugly, and is missing two screens, but still alot of fun. Did any system make a good complete version of this game?
The Colecovision version looks pretty good from what I can remember. Game play isn't too bad either.

I have my 7800 hooked up. It looks good, plays 7800 & 2600 games, has a small footprint, and allows me to keep my boxed heavy sixer system safely stored away.

On a related topic, there's a Colecovision with 12 games at a thrift store (30 day warranty) I'm also pondering for $79. They also have N64s for $19.99, so I'm getting one of those. I read Colecovisions die a lot, so I'm getting worried and am unsure if I should purchase.
I'd definately get the Colecovision if it works. I had one as a kid and have another one now thats in really good condition, box and all. I did have to repair the on/off switch though. Corrosion gets in between the contacts and you have to get in there and clean it off. You have to be careful though as you have to remove the switch from the board, and it may or may not go back on. Mine worked like a champ afterwards
The controllers do suck. I've taken some apart a million times and can repair some of them but not all. The fire buttons on the side are the worst. I've had 8 or 10 controllers, and the fire buttons only really worked in two. You can't repair them unfortunately.
Coleco games can be challenging to find in their original boxes.
Good luck on your find!

On every cart that I get, new or otherwise, I use 90% clear isopryl alcohol (for quick evaporation) and a nylon swap. Dip it in and srub lightly until you see no more green. Don't use a cotton swap as the fibers catch on the cartridge. I use it mostly on my Nintendo NES cartridges as they tend to really screw up the system to where it won't play if not cleaned each time before use.

You just have to look around and virtually be in the right place at the right time. I just bought 12 new games, mint in box, still shrinkwrapped off of ebay for $21. Those included:
Ms. Pacman
Tower Toppler
One on One
Galaxian
Pole Position II
Dig Dug
Baseball
Xevious
Centipede
Donkey Kong
Hat Trick
Ballblazer
Two bucks a piece and still new and shrinkwrapped, you can't beat it. I've seen Ms. Pac Man go for $9 on eBay by itself. Same applies for the flea and thrift stores. Right place at right time.

Anyone have the Indy 500 game complete in box for the Atari 2600? I'm looking for one that has the larger box with controllers included in very good to mint condition. Please PM me if you have a copy that you'd like to let go for a modest price.
Thanks!

Anyone have one of these? I'm looking for the most basic working system that I can find. I'm using it for parts so I don't need controllers, power supplies, or anything else but the console. Donations are also accepted as well and I'll pay for the shipping?
Thanks!
I have one on my tradelist. Works great, so it's too bad you want to tear it up, but that's your business.
Anyway, take a look and let me know if you have a trade or cash offer. If you're parting it out anyway, I may remove and keep the extra plug I put in for the power supply...James
Thanks James. Turns out I don't need one. It was a bad cart and not my console which I'm glad to say. Thanks again for the offer. At least I don't have to do a Frankenstein on an innocent 7800.

Got a pic?
I'll see if I can't post one tonight

I just received my first copy of Haunted House, and the box looks a bit funky to me. Most of the box is the typical brown color that you would expect, but the left side and back has what looks to be a spray painted bluish color. Spray painted texture and everything. The wierd thing is that the lettering is not spray painted, nor is the sample picture on the back of the box and it clearly would be if this were real spray paint as all areas around it have the color on it. This would indicate that the bluish spray painted looking color had to be applied before the lettering on the box during printing?
I was getting ready to send this back to the guy I bought it from. Any ideas on how this box got this way or maybe its normal?

Dang, one was being given away in the Marketplace thread

That sucks. Guess I was a little too late.

I thought that as well. I used a swab and 90% alcohol and gave the gold contacts a good scubbing. I still get the same thing. How else would I clean the cart further? Thanks!

Well, fired the up my new 7800 tonight and have good and bad news. The good news is that every 2600 cart I put in played great. Keystone Kapers is really a nice game to have. Now the bad news. I have one 7800 cart, Pole Position II, and it doesn't seem to be working. When I put the cart in and turn on the system, I see the nice rainbow type Atari Logo pulsating, then the screen goes black and it sounds like a car racing in Pole Position but no picture. I pulled it out and reinserted, then I got just a grey screen with lines and no sound at all. I pulled the cart out a 3rd time and just turned on the 7800 with nothing in it, and it looked the same, grey screen with scrollling lines or something.
Is my 7800 screwed? I'm assuming that there is two chips in the thing, so my 2600 chip must be great and the 7800 is busted up. Any confirmation or ideas on how to fix would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I just bought my 7800 off ebay, boxed and virtually like new for $25. The Pole Position II Cartridge was still in its taped bubble wrap and the protective plastic was still over the controllers and main panel. I'm siked!
Anyhow, my question is this. I hooked up the system and saw the red power light go on, then it went out. I thought "oh crap", an eBay lemon. I was just about to take it apart to look at the on/off switch, and happen to slightly hit the power supply connector and the unit turned on. So its just that my power supply connector is a little sensitive.
After adjusting it a bit, its not really a big deal, but is this the case with all 7800 power connectors. There seems to be nothing wrong physically with it, its just a little sensitive due to its shallow design. On a side note, I don't know who designed the PS connector that goes into the 7800, but its a pretty weak design.
Thanks!

is it normal to have "stuff" on the side of my screen when playing? I have a Vader and a Jr. 2600 and they both do it with the same games. are the game chips bad or is it just programming errors? like when I play Space Invaders, there are a bunch of stripes on the left side of the screen that don't go away.

It's normal...

I'm wondering where some of the mass sellers of Atari 2600 carts get their inventories. Many of them are selling 'mint in box' all of the time. Is there someplace that I'm missing? I also have bought from Atari2600. I bought a copy of Keystone Kapers just a while back for $12 MIB. I had just lost an auction on eBay for the exact same game where the bozo I was up against bid the thing up to $21. He could have saved almost half if he knew where to go. I just saw an average Atari 2600 PB Frogger on eBay going for $36 and still had 2 days to go...ridiculous!

played Ladybug finally, last night....

Ladybug is a great game. The port over to the Colecovision is awesome.
