Atari DOS 2.5 source code from OSS - working!
sup8pdct replied to luckybuck's topic in Atari 5200 / 8-bit Programming
Check out this thread http://atariage.com/forums/topic/218689-desegment-mac65-obj-files/ You could also use the spartados construction set OFF_LOAD command with limitations. Edit: found this. https://archive.org/stream/analog-computing-magazine-56/Analog_Computing_56_1987-07_Four-Star_Software#page/n35/mode/2up James -

Atari DOS 2.5 source code from OSS - working!
sup8pdct replied to luckybuck's topic in Atari 5200 / 8-bit Programming
Mac65 always has segments of about 256 bytes or so regardless. I always run m65 assembled files through a desegmenter before i call it complete. No good doing a M65 Bsave either, same segmenting happens. James -
Me have Flu. if I put a pdf of flu contaminated document here, will every one else get it?? Will start it when i have rested. Flu has zapped all energy....... James

I reminded my self of this thread and what I was going to do once i got back from the year doing the block (going around australia) but after a year, memory fades......... Here are lines 9-386 from my rev A listing. I somehow skipped page 5 1st time round so it is a separate file. 400-800 reva.pdf 400-800 reva 5.pdf James

rear view Grey wire on left is power in.One fuse is for the power outlet. Other is for everything else. Front view Small round on lower left is for black box. The XLR circular with pins have Gnd, +5 and +12, The 2 with holes have Gnd and +5v The 3 leds are connected to -5,+5 and PG lines. On lower right in terminal block are from left to right are +6v, 9vAC @ 1.2 A and 2 x 9vAC @3.5 A Side view Also makes good monitor stand. I have powered my 1050 directly from +5 and +12. Also floppy mechs for BB and ATR8000 and indus GT from 12v. XL from the 5V only. Also planned to power my hard drives and adaptor boards from it as well Way more outlets then what I have used I know. Nothing like over kill James

???? If this is how you see it, I truly feel sorry for you. Junk ???? You have a right to say that but I am sure others including me will disagree. Re power brick. I went to quite a bit of trouble to make that. Sourcing a large box Adding power outlets for a monitor, making custom cables etc which i am quite proud of. Dismissing it out of hand i truly find deeply offensive. James

I use supermon. I read in the sectors required according to the 1st 6 bytes of the 1st sector and start working from there. Some boot disks are encrypted so you will need to load them into memory and decrypt to go further. I have found one the decrypts part of itself, runs the code then encrypts it self again, but it does a sum of the encrypted part and uses that number to decrypt said part. Man that took some head scratching. James

What is the best floppy replacement -- and why?
sup8pdct replied to Larry's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers

Or do you have an SIO2Sd by Lotharek? Whats wrong with plugging it into an XF551 or ATR8000 or percom or anything else that uses a Std floppy mech? James -
What is the most technically impressive game?

Anyone think of dropzone? James -
The ATR8000 can have programs up loaded to it. I personally have done it to create CPM system tracks. On boot up,the rom is copied to ram so any changes should be easy. Be very careful changing the rom. you may break CPM. While at it, change the drive def blocks to allow 1.4 meg disk format. I believe the FDC can handle high density as it can be clocked at 1 or 2 MHZ. Am sure i will be corrected if i am wrong. James

there is a fold in the cable between 2nd and 3rd connector which i suspect hides the twist. the part you want is from the 3rd connector from left to the right hand end. If you get that cable, get a sharp knife and cut the cable flush with the 3rd connector from the left on the left hand side. Knife MUST be sharp.. That way, you wont use the twist part and not have unused ends that could cause problems due to stray capacitance James.
-
One end has wrong connector you need card edge to holes. James
-
No. you will need to find a cable without the twist in the middle. It may be possible to remove the twist by pulling off the small plastic parts that cover the cable, carefully remove the twist part and put it back. It is easy enough to roll your own tho. just need the right tool to crimp the cable on to the connector. I have used a vice in the past, pliers, my body weight and door jams.. James

It has. GO (channel 99 here) is where i first saw it. Played several times before I took notice of the name.... James

The atr8000 has the 1st 2 tracks as system. The 1st system sector is set to 128 bytes by the rom. the rest are loaded by the bootstrap loader on the 1st sector so in theory could be any size from 128 to 1024. The designers chose 512 byte sectors for this. The System disks are CP/M boot disks. there are 2 versions getting around. Both have the same base CP/M system , the difference is the device specific code used by CP/M to interface hardware. The latter version is much better when it comes to handling differing sector sizes and sides. As far as i know the WD1797 and the rest of the family, 1772, 279x etc, can have multi size sectors on one track. it is simply set during format. I cannot say anything about the one used in the pc. It is a different chip with different workings and programming. I have messed with anadisk trying to create a ATR8000 system disk. It or the controller cannot handle the 128 byte sector properly. James
-
I believe -5v is also used for the power led. James
-
ATR8000 system disks are a strange beast. 1st sector is 128 bytes mfm. next 9 are 512 byte mfm sectors. 2nd track is 9 512 byte sectors and one 128 byte sector numbered as sector $64 (has no data). 3rd track and beyond can be one of these sector sizes. 128, 256, 512, 1024 for the rest of the disk. A data disk will have one of these sector sizes through out, either single or double sided, however the 1st 2 tracks won't contain any data. A system disk can be created after data is stored on a data disk. Teledisk for PC cannot create a working system disk (at least with my pc floppy disk controller) however i have done a work around for those that don't have system disk. James
-
If you can, format the destination disks @ 256 byte sectors and copy the files over. That way, they can be read by a XF551 to make ATR files from them. Maybe even the drive connected to the ATR provided the dos you use supports it. James

Weird interaction between Happy 1050 and Indus GT
sup8pdct replied to gamer-stu's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
No. that dip switch is the default density the drive sets it self to at turn on, either single or double. It should set it self to the density of the inserted disk once it starts reading the disk. Note that earlier versions of the indus rom had trouble with enhanced density. Latest is V 1.2 There is a so called 1.4 hanging around but it is actually a 1.2. James -
disassembly (particularly i8040) MCS48 architecture
sup8pdct replied to tregare's topic in Atari 5200 / 8-bit Programming
Not that i am aware of. The css version is very much upgraded tho it has a dongle for copy protection (single drive version). It can be easily bypassed however if you look in the right spot James -
