  1. I believe usd 1050 closely follows the FDC279x data sheet for DD format. Also indus appears to be very similar. James
  2. I personally used SCOPY from SDCS to ape tho if it found a bad sector, it would stop. Those with bad sectors, i used the BB disk edit program or superdos. Also had 1050, xf551 and couple on std mechs on BB floppy board to try and read all sectors. Some took a lot of work. James
  3. Supposed to be 75 ohm resister on main board but i dont think it is. Wouldn't worry about it to much tho. James
  4. Total ram installed is 256 +16+16 = 288K. It is unusual for mods on the os board like that. Should also check the mother board for mods as well. Axalon ram switching is usually done at $CFFF. 0=main bank. James
  5. You can use an XF to read atr8000 disks however some work will be required to get the sectors in the same order as written. There are 3 different DSDD disk layouts. Percom, ATR8000 and xf551. XF does side one from track 1 to 40 then side 2 from track 40 to 1.I cannot remember what the percom and atr do. I know one does second side from track 1 to 40, and the other does track 1 both sides then track 2 both sides etc .If you can borrow a Blackbox with floppy board,it can be set to read dsdd floppies in ATR8000 format as well as xf and percom. James
  6. check out this thread. I managed to make a bootable cpm disk, however a working data disk is a bit trouble sum. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/220185-atr-8000-and-other-cpm-system-disks-here/page-2 James
  7. I have looked at the rom. the X command has been removed but the legal entry point and associated routines remain. Add in the x command and the diags should work again. James
  8. I have`only seen 2 monitor type programs for 400/800. Both use the 4K at $C000, $CFFF. One has 2 4K banks that can be selected under program control. Would say that omnimon would be similar to one of those 2. Extra hardware is required to support bank switching tho. Don't know if any emulator supports bank switching the $cxxx. Also depends on what address needs to written/read to switch banks. James
  9. Any one havemanual for this? James
  10. Dos XE has A 8 place table of drive types. ie sector size , number of sectors per track etc. If your drive size/type isn't in this table, too bad. I saw this problem so decided to do something about it. I created a dos XE formatter that creates custom drive types, save it in dosXE and formates the disk. I used it to create 16 meg partitions but these fail. Apparently, an add in is required. Also DosXE buffers the sector map for each drive. 2 or 3 16 meg partitions quickly fills all available memory. There is a MAX usable size for DosXE in its current form. Need to find the thread on atariage for both the formatter and max size. James
  11. I do know the sparta dos formatter (cannot remember is it was 3.2. or 4.x) Formats SD standard speed on a USD and compatible drive using one of the fastest sector layouts possible instead of the atari standard sector layout. Have had comments from people that i sent disks to that load faster on their std drives back in the day. James
  12. That would mean finding the soldering iron, solder and a radial cap. All far too much at this point in time. P.S Complaining? Ooohhh hell yes James
  13. I pulled mine out after some years of non use. 1st turn on, got normal boot blue screen for 1/2 a second then nothing. After LOTS of messing around swapping and checking chips, power rails, verifying roms etc, I finally traced it to C7, part of the reset circuit. Only clue that I had was that after inserting Star raiders (which has a bit set to tell the os it is a diagnostic cart and boots it after minimal os setup), I could sometimes see the star field then disappears but mostly hear the sound it makes when it starts, constantly start and stop. I fixed it by feeding +5v into the + end of cap for a while. Maybe not a permanent fix, but did get it going again. James
  14. Re adding pics. Photo bucket has changed its policy. James
  15. The upper 2 don't have the black plastic side clips for the cards. They should have bare boards and small plastic retainer from front to back in the center. There is another way to check rom versions. pull out rom card, remove metal cover and quote the numbers on the 24 pin chips. One should end with 399. that is the math rom. the other 2 are....? James
  16. Found Miditrack III here. http://ftp.pigwa.net/stuff/collections/holmes%20cd/Holmes%201/ATR%20Programs/Applications%20A-Z/Midi%20Track%20III.atr James
  17. Bump again..... Any one have the manual? I used to have it but lent it to someone (some 20 + years ago) and haven't seen it since. James
  18. to test if something is working with 850, turn off everything, turn on 850 then turn on computer, no disk drives , sio2sd etc devices powered on. You should hear after a few command frame failes, 2 or sector size beeps then a big long beep. If not, something is wrong. If it does, problem lays elsewhere. That sound is the rs232 driver loading in to computer from 850. It can also be loaded from dos via a small program stored on disk. The rs232 driver is not required for the printer port. James
  19. I havent heard of that. It doesn't make sense either. I would have thought the hardware would be setup so this could not happen. James
  20. Very rarely go in to the city so i don't see these . I did go Wocka Wocka bout in 2013 for a year. Does that count???? James

  23. The 2K missing is the hardware chip area that can never be accessed. James
  24. Port1 has full complement of rs232 signals similar to 9pin pc type. ports 2 and 3 are same with reduced control signals. port 4 is setup to control a teletype printer with current loops. james
  25. sure it is a bug?. Digging through the roms of usd, indus etc, the 1st 3 sectors are 256 bytes long, the firmware just sends/receives 128 bytes and pads out the other 128 bytes to fill the sector. James
