  1. i have the blue one and i dig it, it looks cool and plays nice, the 8 way/ 4way switch is good for maze games. i always figured it was made with early computers in mind, other than yours and mine i have never seen them or heard them mentioned.

the space age joystick is worth about $15 according to digital press and was designed by milton bradley

  2. no big trick, just goto ebay and search "game axe" or famicom, you'll find some. like i said before dont bother if you have a working NES, the US carts are too big to hang off a controller, if i remember correctly the best adp is called a honeybee or honeycomb. you should be able to get for under under $20. if all else fails just google famicom to nes and see what comes up. these are common items.

  3. i started collecting these things for a while, got about 6 of them and got bored with the pursuit. most of these things are fairly low quality like a sub mad catz controller. some of these mega joys actually have a slot in them to take famicom carts, so i added a pin adpt to mine and tried playing some games with it but the damn game would get knocked out when i moved the controller around, oh well. the sturdiest one is made by pelican and features all of the color dreams titles, and a very annoying rumble feature. the worst one is the Dr.Boy which looks like a gameboy color, avoid it except for novelty value.

while we're on the subject check the 2600 forum for a discussion of the TV boy thats ongoing. the activision 10 in 1 gamepad is pretty cool if you ask me but not for atari purists.

  4. indeed i peeled back the heavy white sticker and found the 1984 date, then i quickly pasted it back down in a fit of "comic book guy" mint conditional love.

you know just looking at the date makes me ask what if? how would the fate of atari and home gaming been different if this system had been launched in 1984? what if they had just skipped the 5200 and gone straight to the 7800...ah, what ifs are worthless, it still plays an awesome game of joust.

  5. sometimes i see some way overpriced genesis sports game in a thrift and then i'm amazed to see that some one bought it! like $8 for madden 92, or a copy of atari ET that goes in a day, who is buying these things?

i think another big reason is just that its been so long since atari was out that 90% of them have already been yard saled or thrifted. people are less likely to donate NES and up when they can funco it, or of course ebay it themselves. its weird though, two source of mine have had all their atari commons bought out recently, somebody is out there.

  6. flat stacked on a 5 level book shelf, in nerdish alpabetical order of course, all loose since i dont have the room for boxes. the neat thing is i have done the math and figured that this shelf will have the capacity to hold a complete NES collection, which i am now 170 games away from. the games are pressed to the back of the shelf so the contact end is more or less closed off from dust. while we're talking storage, remember 8 track racks are ok for atari, boxed SMS and GEN use VCR tape racks, loose SMS and GEN are a perfect fit for cassette tape racks. there are no good ways to store loose jaguar carts...

  7. i have TV boy II and it does matter if you have an NTSC (north american) TV since nearly all of the TV boys were made for PAL (euro) TVs. i have heard that a small number were sold for NTSC tvs but are pretty hard to find. some models are said to have an internal switch for PAL-NTSC but good informatin is hard to find. my solution was to play it on a commodore monitor, otherwise you'll have to put up with a rolling black and white picture. its a great device to have for all the pirate and obscure games it has built into it.

  8. playstation2 all the way, one visit to game store will settle this argument for you. take a look at the shelves and see for yourself, its about the games. i dont know what genres you like to play but the numbers are with sony. i'm not talking about console power i'm talking about selection.

i also have a new gamecube but i cant say there are a lot of games to choose from. in the long run i'll get an xbox too but for now the game is on the ps2, dont let the fanboys fool ya!

  9. there is a proud heritage of cheap determination in game collecting and i'd like to speak for that legacy. we are the thrift store, flea market and yardsale guys. the ones who take the stupid roadtrips and haggle over prices. we are a breed apart from the ebay fed "power buyers"! if its all about playing the games then it matters not how you aquire them. if its about collecting and bragging rights, well then ebay is like your parents paying your friends to hang out with you. this is my opinion, its not met to knock anyones thing (too much anyway) but instead to say that some of cant us see the trophy buck without the hunt.

and since we're bragging here- i have the largest game collection (all systems total) in new england and its nearly all from finds and trades...dont believe me? come to the next trademeet, enter the kings chamber!

  10. ok i know the story of how the 7800 was finished in 1984 and shelved till 1987 but today i found the smoking gun. a 7800 box with a copyright 1987 sticker pasted over the 1984 one. since this is the first 7800 box i have found tell me the rarity or oddity of this sticker.

by the way it was just the box, in great shape for 50 cents at a flea market.

  11. of course this depends on how much space you have...and on how many consoles you have set up. i use a metro steel wire rack shelf with 5 levels standing around 8 ft high and 4 ft wide. the good thing about these shelves is that they expandable and open so your wires can snake anywhere they need to, thru shelve levels or out the backside. i f you cant picture what i'm talking about think of the shelves you'd see in a professional kitchen or garage. these things became sort of "loft living funky" and trendy hardware stores carry them for marked up prices although they can be bought directly from kitchen supply companies. mine currently holds 26 consoles, 18 of which are hooked up and ready to play, via a tricky radio shack switch box system.

  12. i'm prepared to take some mocking for this...

i LIKED the game.com, seriously i picked it up for cheap at best buy just before they disappeared from the shelves. it was sort of a challenge going to all the stores in the malls and tracking down the games at the sunset of its short life. i used to play duke nuken, sinistar and mortal kombat on the train home from work every night. well then i got a nomad and serious collection of dead AA's and...

  13. the sega PICO, the socrates...anything like that, i actually threw these out when i aquired them in a giant bundle. i'll probably never spend an evening playing my studio 2 or channel F but at least i could, unlike most of the 32x and sega CD stuff i've found. the games dont matter much if the hardware is doomed to fail.

  14. yep its down all the way now...which is a damn shame since theres a lot to like about the site. as for the content issues i dont care less about the girly pics, theres a long story to her presence on the site that i wont spool out here. its seems the forums there are going thru an akward stage, its classic gaming community but the focus seems to be slipping from the games toward the community itself which makes for a lot of nonsense sometimes. still though its a great resource, if i need some input on a gaming related issue the responses are fast and on the money for the most part...hope to see it up and running soon.
