our next trademeet is right around the corner, sunday june the 16th here in boston. This seasons meet is sure to feature lots of great games for trade and loads of cool stuff to play with. its a good chance to unload some of your doubles and meet like minded collectors, not to mention the cook out and free beer, weather permitting we will be playing warlords under the stars.
highlights of this meet will include-
2 vectrex systems up for trade/sale
full on multiplayer gaming action...uh yeah
a handful of folks from this board
games from dong to playstation and of course everything atari, including our resident homebrewer joe grand and some of philly classic leftovers. check out our web site for all the details and try to make it out. http://necg.cjb.net/

i'm not aware of anyone who will have bugs bunny or POLO for sale at our get together though its possible. to but it plainly the more of you who bring yourselves and your trade items over the more amazing the deals will be. dont get the idea that you have to have top grade ultra rare items to get in on the action either, most of us are still looking for all sorts games, including the not so rare ones. its also a good place to unload that extra hunk of hardware taking up space in your closet.
so on with the rest of the details, theres a spiffy little press releae and directions on our website, see the events page http://necg.cjb.net/

well, while our trademeet will certainly be "the classic gaming event" in new england for that weekend we're not up to any sort of philly classic mega show, this is more like a party that involves loads of video games. on the other hand we will have joe grand on hand with some philly classic copies of his amazing home brew game SCSIcide, and there just maybe a very rare prototype game to play...
either way if you live in the region you really should come by trade some games and have a beer.

this is a short message just give everyone the date, its sunday june the 16th. as always the trademeet will be here in boston at my place in jamaica plain. you'll be hearing more details from me in the weeks to come and i'm open to any ideas or suggestions anyone might have to make this trademeet the best one yet.
heres a few ideas i've come up with - i'm going to have a cookout, thats right, in addition to video games there will be food! there will be beer, even if i'm the only one drinking it! there will be even more games set up to play, the theme this time is multiplayer, so bring over your favorite carts and controllers! as far as the trading goes thats up to you, we have a nice tradition of giving away extra systems and letting things go for super low prices, i hope that continues. hopefully with so many new names on this mailing list we'll see an excellent turnout and many happy trades made.
more details and directions will be posted in due time to our charming website http://necg.cjb.net/
hope to see you all in june

here we go,the site is up now. stop by, take a look around. everyone is encouraged to send us some mail, a profile, a store review whatevers on your mind. its our attempt to make game collecting in new england even better
scott (aka club ninja) has fashioned a nice website for us and now its ready for visitors and submissions. people who responded quickly to the last email will see their profiles and store reviews already in a place of honor, for everyone else keep watching as the site is growing pretty quickly. thanks to everyone who replied, keep the trade lists coming, hopefully now that the site is up people will understand what we're looking for and what we plan to do.
oh and one last thing, we're teaming up with the Quebec classic game collectors group to form a north atlantic super free trade zone!
-
thrift stores aint what they used to be thats for sure. try the flea markets guys, that where i make most of my finds. it doesnt hurt to spend some time with the yellow pages either. last week i went to a used goods trade in store and found bags of 2600 and INTV games. i would have never found that place if hadnt done some searching in the phone book first. what have you got to lose, sit in the comfort of your own home and make some calls to game, electronics, and pawn shops. also, bug your co workers and contacts, this has paid off for me very nicely. flea markets, thats the key though.consider picking up rare items you dont need to use as tradebait for games you want.
oh yeah and once again come to our trademeets, even if you dont have much to trade there are some very low cost deals to be had on consoles and such.
-
hey zeptari,
where in mass? you gotta come to the next trademeet, we've got something for everyone, not to mention the free beer.the website is starting to come together and the next meet will hopefully be the best yet. lastly we are the reason you never find any games around here, there are at least 30 of us out there scooping them up.
-
come on its not so bad here in new england, there are lots of games if you know where to look, lynx- bob's video games fall river MA, not too far from RI at all.
all of you need to get on my mailing list for the new england trademeets. we cover all the classic systems. the next one is in june here in boston.
-
for whatever its worth i have all the action max games sealed and up for trade. why listen to what others say about this system, get em and see for yourself (take this crap off my hands)
-
all your questions about dcmame should be answered here, there are two versions of this out there. the emulation is quite smooth for many of the older games but is not up to speed for the later neogeo fighting games.
http://www.geocities.com/bigmykes_site/mamed/faq.html
all of the games for both the stella and mame are stored on the disc, no need for the vmu there. there are a few bugs, like on the mame ms pac man for example the bottom of the screen gets lopped off but there is a seperate arcade perfect version out there as well. there are also decent emulators for the NES and colecovision. as with any discussion of emulation i should point out that there are issues with playing roms you dont own. big mikes site should cover what you need for burning, be sure to use the self boot buddy.

its a great idea, i basically have one but thats not what i started out to build. i took a gutted taito lime cab (jungle king) and rebuilt it. i used all origional parts for the outside (except i used a 4 button control panel) and gave it 100% new guts based around a dreamcast. i wired the controller boards wires onto the board of a dc controller with solder and used a VGA box to connect the DC to my giant monitor (from a university's trash). a small powerstrip and a pair of self amplified PC speakers complete the cabinet. tilting the monitor back to match the cabinets angle was probably the hardest part of the job, it was pretty tricky to fit the bezel over the screen as well but the end result is very convincing.
the idea was to have a mame cabinet running the dcmame ware (perfect for classic games, choppy on the newer stuff) and it worked, it plays an awesome game of stargate. recently though i have been popping the DCstella disk in for a spin. even a medicore game like space jockey seems a lot more intense with the sound and screen right up in your face, standing up a gripping the controls feels right. yar's revenge in particular really benefits from this!
good luck with your project, my advice: use wico sticks for your controllers, no way a regular atari stick could take the hard use.

heres a timely reminder of the upcoming classic games trademeet here in boston, coming up this saturday (2/23 4pm)
before you get into the main text heres an excert from an email i recieved from one of the attendees. atari historians take note!
"--Give me an idea of setup, size and so forth, I could make it VERY interesting if you want, I could bring up a big 2600 Demonstrator system (size of 2 coinops next to one another) and I could bring up various Atari prototypes to display and for people to try out like the CX2000, the 2700, a 2800 and so forth, willing to bring up some neat stuff.--"
thats right prototypes! plus all the other good stuff, like cuttle cart silliness, stella in an arcade cabinet and more.
On Saturday the 23rd of February i'll be hosting the third New England area trademeet here in Boston, this post is an invitation to all classic gaming collectors and enthusiasts in the region to come by and join us. As always the meet will be great chance to trade off your extras and meet some people who share your hobby. The meeting will be a casual affair, this is more like a party than a convention, no dealer booths or jacked up prices just people playing and trading games. Hopefully this meet will have something for everyone, from rare games for the advanced collector to cheap working systems for someone just getting started. i have a vast collection of items for trade here, covering systems from the 2600 to the saturn and i'm expecting to see some pretty impressive trade stashes from previous attendees.
the gaming theme of this trademeet will be "specialized controllers and the games they were built for" in other words we're going to play spitfire attack with the cannon, Virtual On with the twinsticks and so on... if you have any items that match this theme please bring them along (especially some somba de amigo marraccas!). i will be serving beer, soda and snacks and guest are welcome to bring over whatever suits them. the meeting should run from 4pm to the early evening, directions are pasted below and i'll be standing by the phone to guide the lost and confused thru boston. for those not familar with the city...yes this is a safe neighborhood with parking.
if you have any specific questions or would like to RSVP (would be nice you know) please send me an email--- [email protected] if you have any other questions or would like to let people know what you're bringing/looking for simply follow up this thread.

outside of the adventurevision all i should have all the classics covered, plus some obscure stuff like my coin-op vectrex, dinavision and the dc-mame cab.

hope you can make it, email me with any questions
-
glad to hear you're planning on coming, spread the word to any other local collectors you know, the more trades the better. email me ([email protected]) if you have any questions etc...
2600 stuff- joe grand will be there with his homebrew game SSCIcide, joe tells me he still has a few copies left to trade...after those are gone hozer vid will be the only source.
