you are a anti-extraterrestialist Inky. E.T. should be shown the same respect that the mad bomber or Adventure Square get. -
Atari's Landfill Adventures, I now have the proof it's true.
iguana replied to Spud's topic in Atari 2600
cool thread. I tend to believe this story. for a couple of reasons. 1st at the time there was little resale value in those carts. Carts were going for very small amounts and the price would not really cover shipping them, and the risk that they would be coming back from retailers. It is not uncommon at all for businesses to throw away product in order to take the tax break. The tax break was probably more than the profit margin so it make perfect business sense to throw them out. 2nd. Destroying them (crushing and burying) makes perfect sense in that scenario. The last thing needed would be these carts out in the public. It would be a PR nightmare to admit that you failed miserably in your business model. Wall street would not look favorably at it, and at this time there were already many issues with Atari on the street. Best to destroy the evidence. It is also not uncommon to destroy the merchandise. Examples include Chuck E Cheese destruction of Video games. 3rd there is not reason at all to suspect that a reporter would make up this story. It only makes atari look bad so it is not helping them. Who would benefit from the story? no one I can think of. I do not think that only ET carts were there. I am sure it was just a Hodge podge of different stuff they wanted to get rid of. I think it fits Kassar's MO and Atari's MO. They both were holding on by finger tips. Kassar probably wanted to hide the fact that there was huge amounts of unmoving product. After all he did have some insider trading issue later so it would not shock me that he tried to manipulate the corporate perception. This just justifies the "secrecy" in which this operation was conducted in. -
What arcades still have great classic video games?
iguana replied to 128bytes's topic in Arcade and Pinball
well for anyone near the Jersey Shore. If you go to Seaside Heights onthe boardwalk to the old indor Carosel. in the back there is a whole secion of classic Arcade games. I stumbled on it this past summer. droped a few coins in them too. Drank some coke. like the good old days! Well except my kids screaming at me to get out of the old boaring games so they could ride the rides! -
Best I ever had was a lot of 75 games ( mostly common 2600 some not so common and a bunch of boxed 7800) 3 2600 systems including a boxed and complete heavy sixer and a 7800 aobut 10 joystics and paddles all for 48 bucks. It was blind too. I knew it had 3 2600 and about 50 games (that is what the seller told me) Since I was just starting out I figured what the hell, it is a good way to get some games. THat used up all my carma though.

I would have liked a Dungeons and Dragons like Intelli. I liked that game.

I remember paying 249 for my atari system (actually My mom bought it) at Sears We paid less because my Grandmother worked there and got a discount. I remember games coming in at around 25 or so pre crash.

while sitting on my couch and whatching SPRINGER and drinking my PEPSI, INVADERS broke into my house and robed me. Living in Pensylvania I called the KEYSTONE COPS to report it. htey told me the OUTLAWs were on the loose for some time now and that I should leave for a few days. I said I would except that I had LOST LUGGAGE so I had to use bags instead.

imne are on shelves in the basement where I store them. I lost a lot last year in a flood, but now they are all high and dry. Most of my other stuff (that survived) uis in boxes on the shelf. I pull them out as I want to play them. My collection is more for play than for display

cool! I even forgot to vote!!!

how about when 8 was enouph or 16 bits??? we don't need no stinkin 16 bits (ok that may not work)
-
I would go to NJ or lower NY and of course PA. I have LL on the atari anthology which is ok, but like Trey said. I need the thrust handle!

Nintendo Revolution: Back Catalogue = Free! (?)
iguana replied to Lost Monkey's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I think they will offer quite a few and for free (though I doubt all of them) eventually they may move to a small fee but only small. the reason is because it is not about profitability or marketshare but about stock price. N would make very little on a pay service for old NES or SNES games. lets face it, we all love the classics, but the average 15-25 yr old could care less abou zelda or techmo bowl. This service is goodwill and more importantly the street will see it a value added for little or no cost to N. just another reason for you and I to buy the system but there really is not cost added to the system to do so. The street will also assume as I do that if N ran into trouble and that service was hot, they could charge a small fee and use it all pretty much for the bootom line of the machine. It will also distract some from the fact that it is not as high powered a machine as the other 2. I think a year after the release it will be marketed as the 'Apple" of consoles and marketed to a nitch market, where it will do well and make money keeping the street happy and being forgotten by most the mainstream young gamers. -
is this a hard game to find? I can not seem to locate it anywhere and have looked for like a year. am I just on a hopeless quest? Has anyone even seen one of these at auction or something. just give me hope!

worked. thanks
