I've been thinking about picking up a 5200 and was looking around on eBay. Check out this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?V...item=1331633620 That's right -- $55 starting bid for a box with no cables, controllers or anything. Are some people over there just nuts, or is it me?

Heh! Not a topic you want to get me rolling on, believe me. All I'll say is that I'll stick with my trusty 2600, 7800, Lynx II and maybe pick up a 5200 in the future. Just didn't care much for the Jag, is all.

I am interested in obtaining a portable system and I want to know how the Lynx stacks up to others especially the Game Boy Advanced. How are the controls, batterry life, graphics, game selection etc. compared withe the others? The system looks really good. How durable is the system? Is it good value for the money? Any input is appreciated I have a Lynx II and absolutely love the thing. The system is durable, but the screen protector tends to get scratched. You can find a ton of great games for the system for next to nothing at eBay and local classic gaming shops (Game Xchange around here). Overall, it's a fantastic system that should have beat the Game Boy into the ground. The Lynx isn't nearly as powerful as the Game Boy Advance, but that should surprise no one -- the Lynx is around 15 years older than the advance, so there you go. However, games for the Advance are a heck of a lot more expensive, and I've found the Lynx is ideal for cheap, portable fun. The backlight on the Lynx is great as it allows you to play in the dark without that blasted glare from worm lights and such available for the Game Boy series. Sadly, the backlight contributes to the Lynx's insane amount of power consumption (4 or 5 hours from six "AA" batteries makes this system kind of expensive to feed). However, I'd rank the Lynx as a good value. It was a great one for me because I swapped on old Commodore 64 that had been taking up space in my garage for a Lynx and five games. Very good trade.

Blast. I should have held on to my Jag for a bit and traded it at this board, then. Blast. Blast.

Rats!!! All of this talk has made me realize I need to get a 5200. Frankly, the controllers on the ColecoVision are just plain horrible, although I enjoy the games I have for the system ("Pepper II," "Gorf," "Venture," even "Looping" and others). The controllers, in fact, are quite restrictive, and I'm not sure why so many rotten controllers were released (the ones on the Intellivision were particularly bad, and that Joypad I have for the Atari 7800 is decent, but not great). I haven't messed with a 5200 for years, and I can't recall if the controllers stunk or not. They couldn't have been that bad, otherwise I would have remembered them. Now, if someone figures out how to wire a PS1 dual shock into some of these classic consoles, the world will be a better place.
