Well, it's an interesting philisophical debate, the use of generalized computing vs. specialty gaming machines... Well, here's something else -- what do you a call an xbox that's equipped with a keyboard, a mouse and a copy of Linux? What's really interesting these days is the line between computers and consoles appears to be blurring a bit with each generation of consoles. I wonder how much more "computer-like" the next generation of consoles will be. Remember in the 1980s when every console manufacturer out there wanted to make an add-on device that would transform their game machines into honest-to-goodness computers? That can easily be done now.

Wow, this argument's been around since the days of "my Apple ][ is way better than your Atari." Some things never change...

Uh, oh. I see a bad trend developing -- the Wil Wheaton thread!

Hmmm. Mountain Home, huh? It isn't that far from Benton

New Dreamcast releases - Your opinions
HawgWyld replied to goatdan's topic in Modern Console Discussion
An opinion? Sure, I can do that (but, just remember it's probably worth about as much as you paid for it). The packaging, pricing and etc. looks great. However, the content is none to appealing. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who just love puzzlers and dance games, and it looks like those folks will have some decent titles from which to choose. Regardless, it's great to see the Goat Store showing the DC a little love. But, that's kind of what y'all are good at -- supporting systems that have largely been abaondoned. I hope you folks continue to support the old DC, and I know I'll be watching to see what else is released. -
Well, I certainly do. I also believe the famed "SpyCat" written about at length in the latest edition of "Weekly World News" will be a crucial component in the U.S. war in Iraq. Frankly, this thread is one of the funniest things I've seen in some time.

Atari's Landfill Adventures, I now have the proof it's true.
HawgWyld replied to Spud's topic in Atari 2600
Hey, hey, hey! Leave ol' Hawgie out of this particular spat By the way, looking forward to the convention in June. I'll have a smaller camera this year (thanks be to God). -
Why are YOU waiting to get your PSP?
HawgWyld replied to onkyo_emu's topic in Modern Console Discussion
The PSP? What's that? How does it stack up against my Lynx and Game Gear? -
They still are...

Wow! Bubble memory. Haven't thought about that in ages. I remember quite well a multi-part feature in Color Computing magazine about how to put 128 kilobytes of bubble memory in a TRS-80 CoCo. The author was downright amazed the thing would "remember" data when the machine was switched off. We've come a long way in the past couple of decades.

Yeah, the fact "Wesley Crusher" wrote that thing kind of takes the sting out of the criticism, doesn't it?
-
Hey, it's just a genre like anything else. What's interesting here is how people have posted things along the lines of, "I don't like sports games ... except for that one over there and this one over here."

Final Approach! Loved that one when I was younger, even though it is an extremely boring game. And, I still have to sneak in some time on it every now and again.

any one heard of a system called fairchild
HawgWyld replied to wrldstrman's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Hmmm. Thought Arcadia 2001 stuff wasn't too hard to find on eBay... -
Aha! Proof, once again, that every 2600 game out there has at least some fans.
-
I like it, although the screen flicker drives me nuts. If you want a true kick, play the Bally Astrocade version of it some time -- The Incredible Wizard is probably the best game for that system.
-
Wow! That's sure to cool interest in the thing quickly. Space Jockey sucks!
-
Super Football -- looks almost like it could have been an NES game!
-
Agreed! If the Trac-Ball I have worked worth a damn with the 7800 version, it would be even better.
-
Hey, uh, didn't some of the early xbox commercials feature a couple of loser kids playing DOA III?
-
I don't know. Some of those "Head-to-Head" handheld sports games were great. The football variation of those was more fun than a barrel full of brass monkey...

Games so bad they shame your colection
HawgWyld replied to sega saturn x's topic in Classic Console Discussion
No, you don't have a problem. One must really, really, really try to love the Jag or he will hate it. The hardware was fine for that system, but the games outright sucked for the most part. -
And, I was simply stating there are plenty of us who love cel shaded Zelda. For the ones who don't, well, there are plenty of other games (and consoles) out there, and thank goodness for it. By the way, I'd wager that all of us who have purchased a current generation system are interesting in lighting effects, higher resolution and all that, too. It's not an "either or" proposition, given the variety we have out there these days.

I do believe they made one of those for the SNES -- Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. That's a wacky one!

Exactly!
