You'll fine it here, it is a real good tool and fun too, and easy for beginers.

All of the color register stuff is marked in the disassembly of Alien that I did a while back (also, the gfx layout is explained how the 2 tables relate...in addition to including a straightforward method of hacking them). Check out this thread for a copy:
http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=79884
Feel free to use any additions that I did

WOW Nuky thank you so very much!
I thought I'll try reading source code one more time, again 90% I could not understand but when I got to thje color registers I understood them, you have them very clearly marked for Bit Hackers like myself.
I found out in source code it never list the first two zeros, and LF$ I just ignore it is what comes after that is the address so I found them and both Hot Pac'em and Hot Munchkin are really looking good with the new colors!
Hot Pac'em looks so good if it was in the old days Atari would have sued if they did for KC Munchkin you better believe they would have for this, it looks good!
But I am not putting the new ROMs in because they look so good and now I know where the bonus objects are and the colors for them you must have listed to I'll look, I am very much thinking of changing all the objects to fruits and vegetables.
So in stead of space ships you would be gobbling cherries, strawberry eggplants pumpkins tomato's what ever else I can think of.
I never made it far in real pac man so I am guessing but that sounds pretty good.
Thanks so much!

Oh wow those like dune buggy cars I forgot about those!
Yes those would be cool, more points for the cars now that is a cool idea.
I still need to work on the people sitting on top the truck but haven't the time right now.
unless you can get that but I'll work on it if not that is cool either way.

everyone I improved hot Munchkin and Hot Pac'em, maybe I'll do the same for Alien too.
I switched the byte at location 00B9
from X-XX-X-X normal to XXX-X-X The effect is darker color ghost that are not washed out like the original.
More solid colors.
I may do this for Alien too.
Enjoy, and still looking for the color registers, I'll find them.

While trying to find color registers for my hacks Hot Munchkin and Hot Pac'em Going through Alien I found some amazing effects hidden in that game.
So it will be a while but I have an idea for a new game Astro Man in Psychedelic World.
I can make the maze shift like water and the colors of the man change and the colors of the aliens change plus the dots move all over the place.
These are some cool effects I found not sure yet if the game will crash with these set that way but I am still exploring the Alien ROM.

Update: WIP May change
Here is a picture of the new Intermission Screen and a game screen with some new enemies.
Still working on the Game Over Screen
The Hockey Mask is The Humungus, The Leader of the Bad Guys.
Mad Max: I'm just here for the gasoline.
The Humungus: I am gravely disappointed. Again you have made me unleash my dogs of war.
Oh no I don't like the cars, just the motor cycles like the movie, the truck was just like the movie that war machine as a matter of fact I was thinking of putting some riders sitting on top of the truck just like the movie had.
I love the intermission screen though, that is really cool!
Wade
I just tried the screen goes nuts on me and when I went to move it then the truck didn't show up at all. Since the graphics are limited the people would have looked like this.
*
**
That is one I was going to put three
Done in flesh color like the heads on the guys on the motor cycles.
the sprite must be too big with people sitting on top.

Neo Since you are in on this now is there a way to make the car, bikes and truck bigger like what David Crane did in Grand Prix, or would that be a major re-writing on the program code to do that?
Wade
Without rewriting code there is no way to make the sprites bigger then they are in Fast Food.
You could always switch to a top-down view, but I like the side view better. I don't have a lot of time to work on this but I will try to make some intermission screens.
No when I was first thinking on doing this I was trying to decide top down or sideways, and I felt and still do top down you lose a lot of detail, like those motor cycles I made, those went through 4 designs before I hit on the right combination.
The car was originally thinner because I didn't realize on the screen the spirits stretch a little when I realized that I made the car bigger to it's present state.
Same with the trucks I had to keep building them up and especially with the tires.
I was actually toying with the idea of color bikes and still tossing it around but hadn't tried it because in the movie everything was dark dreary and colorless just the color of old metal.
however in the game having all the bikes look like that felt something was missing, so when I saw your colors on the bikes I do really like that it improves it.
Your tire rotation gave me the idea to take that farther using all six frames I thought of how to make them even better. I have to say I was feeling this hack was not as good as my ET's Candy Bars or Pac Munchkin, because I felt it was done and ran out of ideas. I am so glad you are helping me because this is really ending up a awesome hack!!!
Thanks and I love the box art you did excellent work!

Here's a few screen, never actually played Fast Food so I'll save my game impressions for later :-)
I like the theme/idea of the hack though.
I like the way this one is turning out. Good idea!
Thanks Neo!

Everyone I am deeply honored and very pleased to announce Neo has joined me on this project, I was done with it, I did a lot of work to get that very many hours two days all night long into the morning hours even! lol
So I thought it was over but Neo showed me it can be so much better yet and has helped me.
He has ideas yet for it.
So here is the new improved Joint Pac Munchkin/Neotokeo2001 effort, he has taken a good hack and made it great.
I am very happy to share this effort he is a master hacker here, it is an honor as a beginner hacker to have this recognition.
The newest join effort Wade/Neo
Mad Max!

Do you plan on releasing it on a cart?
Actually I am sorry to say I can't do cartridges, I don't have any way to make or even know how to make cartridges.
Thank you very much I am very glad you like it!

I took snap shots of this game but do not know how to put them in here, I tried attachment but that attaches as a file, I tried insert image but that ask for a URL.
Oh well I do have photos but can't show them.
This is color hacked too it looks pretty nice.

Hey everyone I just spent a few hours hacking this I call it Mad Max like the movie.
You are Mad Max driving in your black car after the creeps that ran over everyone you ever knew including your wife and baby daughter.
You were once an officer of the law but these creeps keep getting out and killing more people you are out to stop them from ever harming anyone else you are the Road Warrior!
They ride on their motor cycles towards you , you must run them down but watch out for the trucks if you hit too many trucks your car is destroyed and it's game over for you!
This is a work in progress right now I am working on.
It is looking pretty nice, although I wish I could do big sprites like in Activision's Grand Prix.
How they did that I don't know there is a limit 8 pixels wide for sprites.
But still I did make everything look pretty good I think, just smaller than what I would like to have made.
The trucks look cool!
I need to find out how to get rid of some of the shaking of Max's car.
It is hard since I am working against formerly 6 frames of animation so it can be any of those or all of those together.
I do have it down though it is not shaking nearly as much as when I first did it, wow then it was blinking in different places that was bad!
It is nearly done and turned out pretty good but I am going to need to spend a lot of time on the words in the game and get them to say something about Max.

One of 'em seems like a reasonably familiar idea.

http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?s...amp;hl=Munchkin
Holy crap, I just realized I did that hack over a year ago! Didn't realize I'd been around here that long.
Wow I see that was your first hack and now it's my first hack too, yours is pretty good too, I like what you did with the sounds too.
Checking out the addresses Nukey gave you I couldn't make them out, in hex, I would need to look up lesser significant byte and higher significant byte and add them for every one of those.
I have the addresses like this from Bit Hacker.
0f2f Scared ghost color
0f35 Bar color player one
0f34 Bar color player two
0f2b Ghost
0f2c Ghost
0f2d Ghost
0f2e Ghost
0f33 Maze color
0f32 Screen color
0f31 Pac Man color
then these two addresses I found affect the ghost how they track and attack normal or sadistically.
0566 & 056c
So anyone here that does not know hex like I don't really can use these addresses in Bit Hacker , Showgfx or Hack-O-Matic.
He put the address not on the left as I thought but on the right I see now. Looking back and forth between the two now I see Nukey's has I'll use Pac Man color $ff31 where bit Hacker says 0f31. I just noticed that for all of them so it seems to find in bit hacker I would change the first f to a 0?
If that is the case this opens up a whole lot to me and just shaved very many hours off my future hacks!
I am starting to see that road map!!!

Those are pretty cool. Too bad you didn't base the Pac hack off one of these
Hack-em - http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=55226
8K Pac-man - http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?s...pacman&st=0
Nukey's already done the hard work you'd just need to change the graphics. Also I think the source is in his posts so you could more easily modify the mazes.
-Jeff
Thanks Jeff,
I want to be a much better hacker before ever trying Nukey's stuff, his hacks make my jaw drop, that is a pretty tall standard to live up to, my hacks aren't that good yet.
Source code does me no good I can't read it, I am a bit hacker.
Also I am not sure about hacking 8 K that gets into bank switching I know nothing about that stuff.
Well I'm just a beginner hacker, I can do graphics very well because I used to do them for games in the 80's on my Commodore 64, I had this program called The Arcade Game Construction Kit, by Borderbund, that was so cool, if ever a programmer makes something like that to create games from menus for the Atari VCS There is going to be a big boom in great video games I am sure.
It was so easy to use and made games as good as any you could buy.
I made a KC Munchkin type game with I think I had 10 screens of mazes and each screen had a different kind and color so some have out lines others had solid walls it was really cool.
That was my greatest game I ever made, until these hacks it has been years since I ever did anything with games other than play other peoples games.

There seems to be a constant background noise, even before the game starts, but that might just be the emulator (older Stella).
I don't hear any background noise with the current development code (in CVS), or with the latest release of Stella (2.2).
I agree with you , mine has no back ground noise I use Stella X 1.4.1
The only thing I changed were the graphics almost two weeks ago, my first hacks these were and now the colors.
I hated those original colors as much as I liked my first hacks I knew they could be better. that was why I was so excited to post that and share it with everyone. I wanted everyone to feel some of that excitement I felt in my break through.
Wade

OK. Got them now.
By the sound of the first post you just pulled apart carts and glued stuff together or something.
There seems to be a constant background noise, even before the game starts, but that might just be the emulator (older Stella).
Oh no what I meant by I had to butcher a few dozen ROMs is unlike most seasoned hackers that know source code and can read it my approach to hacking is like carpet bombing the whole ROM until I hit something that changes, like in this case I was looking for color registers.
Once I find the registers then I know what to do from there with my understanding of binary I can put in the numbers I want to.
I tried disassembling ROMs twice and could not make anything out of what I was seeing.
For example I did find PF0 which is play field color, but I was expecting to find a number to change next to it assembly does not work that way so that meant it was in one of the LDA's or STA's I don't know they both seem the same to me.
So I much rather just change every byte in the ROM to find what I am looking for, I go about 40 lines at a time, this approach I find everything I need but it does end up butchering a lot of ROM images. So I save the original in a separate folder and work on the one in my Stella X I run a line down 40 lines and see what happens do it again and again until the ROM can't take it anymore and crashes, then I start over where I left off.
If I find something changes I then go one line at a time until I zone in on it and find an address I need.
I admit it is a very crude way of hacking but I can't read source code so if I want to change things I need to explore the ROM.
Oh here is a tip to make Pac Man almost insanely hard to play if you want.
change the value of this address.
00566
also here seems to do the same thing
0056C
these are Bit Hacker I don't know what they would look like in Assembly.
If you change these it seems up or down does not make any difference the ghost are much faster and track you much more, plus when you eat a power pill they get away much better.

Everyone I am very proud to present you with my newest hacks Pac Munchkin and ET's Candy Bars! Every color in Atari's Pac Man I have Hacked!
These games will blow you away!!!!
I am still stunned over them my self.
I had to butcher a few dozen ROMs to find these registers but I found them it was all worth it.
These look good enough to sell on Cartridges!
I feel like these are my masterpieces so far!
Ok to tell you how these look and what I changed.
Pac Munchkin I did my first hack first
Screen color Black
Maze color dark purple
Pac Munchkin light blue
4 Monsters Red Green Yellow and Blue
I also changed the death sequence to be more like I remember in KC Munchkin.
This is so COOL!!!!!!!!! I am stunned it is mine, I have only been hacking slightly over a week now since my very first hack which was this game.
If I had screen shots I know you would be stunned I am this is so cool!!
Now ET's Candy Bars!
ET is a dark Green
The soldiers are all wearing a lighter green army battle fatigues
The screen color is gray for to concrete floors of the building
The maze color is dark brown for the chocolate candy bars
When ET eats a power pod the soldiers all turn yellow and run
Lastly I changed to color of the payer bar to purple for player one and gray for player two.
ENJOY these I am deeply proud to call these my hacks to think these were once Atari Pac Man is amazing!
They are beautiful, Pac Munchkin is bright and fun, ET's Candy Bars is dark and sinister.
Enjoy and let me know what you think too!

If Neo made it I know it is great!
All the more reason to make Mad Max then, I could have his car and those bad guys on the motor cycles Oh wow his car was back the screen is black I haven't found how to change the screen on fast food. It would need to be brown like desert.
the purple pickle I could make boulders these would be dark brown or gray, that might be cool!
Thanks for the info, I need to check out his Death Race 2000, I see I am not the only one that remembers those old times. lol
It wasn't too far back 70's I think, for me that wasn't too long ago at least. lol
But Mad Max I think was 80's.
Wade
-
I just hit my first wall, the thought being of simple phsyics DeathRace would not follow these rules. People comming at the car would be at a constant rate of speed in proportion to the car speed not coming at verying speeds the only thing that would come at the car at varing speeds would be other vehicals.
So this whole thing needs to rethought over.
Maybe Mad Max, after all Death Race 2000 is very dated, it is the year 2006 and earth does not look or act like that today.
Humm Maybe Space 1999 hack. lol
I used to love that show.
Well it was too violent anyway, I remember I made one for my Commodor 64 I thought was cool at first but after a while it got to me I couldn't keep playing it.

Anyone remember Frankenstein from the movie Death Race 2000 David Caridean?
I have been thinking of doing a Death Race 2000 game there was an arcade game like that too that was later turned into Turbo, as you ran over the people a little tombstone popped up.
This could be done pretty easy with fast food (no tomb stones), I need to think what to turn the purple pickles into if they were cars they would crash not get ran over too, so cars are not good maybe rocks hit too many and your car is out of commission.
I would need to think of how to do all the different people too.
Maybe instead of people vampires or living dead, death race was sick, even though Frankenstein was the hero of the movie.
I think if I remember he refused to run over old people.
Just some thoughts if I was to do this it would be a major hack and would probably take a long time to get everything right.
Plus I have no idea the problems I may run into yet.
Anyway if I do it it will have a similar story you are Frankenstein racing the death race.

Hacking colors with Bit Hacker
in Atari 2600 Hacks
Posted
The only thing I don't like about bit hacker is the numbers are very small and get cut off at the side so a B a E and an F all look the same, you need to find C or D and you know where E F or B come in.
I wish you could change the size of the numbers for one thing another thing that would be nice is the ability to load two ROMs for comparison, but you can load two Bit Hackers side by side it lets you do that.
