Sirius, not Synapse. Tony Ngo did Bandits and Squish'em for Sirius before Park Patrol. The guy who wrote the C64 port of Pastfinder did Blade of Blackpoole for Sirius. The programmer of Zone Ranger did Repton for Sirius. And don't there exists a 2600 version of Turmoil or Fast Eddie from Activision? YES!!!! Squish'em was a darn good game, I think it would be excellent on 2600 maybe spider man or crazy climber could be converted to Squish'em? Wade

At first I thought this was going to be like the Incredible Gina Sisters (on C64) it was really a rip off of Super Mario Brothers, but looking at your screen shots it looks like a very unique game you have made. Wade
-
Could it be made without scrolling like just have the play field as wide as the screen, that might be more do-able? Wade
-
A simple way around Bolder Dash is to do a port of the C64 game Super Rock Fall, it was just like Bolder Dash. Wade

I have a demo of some new Donkey Kong it looks really good but the full screen flashes a lot, it looks like the arcade I think. I don't know why that never went past demo, like look at the picture I can make, forget the picture I want the game. lol I voted for Scramble and fixing Wizard of Wor, I would like to see Gorf arcade someday with the Galaxians back. but when I was reading through the post and saw the real time adventure would be based on Dark Tower! I have that game, it is awesome way better then Dungeons and Dragons much less to keep track of and figure out. It was just if I remember soldier food beast that was it if I remember made it with much more action! So I would like to see that someday. by the way I own all the champ games most I bought when they were new, excellent job on Lady Bug!!!!!!

2600 Defender Arcade - Pretty Much Complete!
Pac Munchkin replied to PacManPlus's topic in Atari 2600 Hacks
Well I'll let you know how it is looking in stella, it seems to contsantly switch between solid letters to striped letters similar to Phaser Patrol letters. Is it supose to do that or should they be all solid constantly? Wade -

Well you did it again I thought the first was awesome, but you managed to blow your first draft out of the water!!!!!!! WOW AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!! Really great logo! The scroll you are right needs a little work it seems to go between clear and fuzzy almost like supercharger text in phaser patrol does but more fuzzy maybe because of the scrolling? Wade -
I know the spot that you are talking about. It is really difficult but still possible to make it thru. When you restart you have to make a quick left or right without error to keep from hitting the island. I have been thinking about tweaking it to make it easier. I would sure appriciate it a little easier, wow I was doing great then I hit that spot and lost everything in a few seconds game over! LOL Wade

Planet Raid is a great hack of River Raid. It was the inspiration for my own Space themed River Raid hack which turned into Alien Menace. Don't miss it. Now I am not sure which one I have I know I have one of those, and I will get the other now that I know. I played this River Raid wow I really like it, it seems imposible at some point there is a bridge then a rectangle island very close if you get killed there you are placed behind the bridge again that is ok but very little room to move over in time to not hit that island. Wow this is hard! Wade PS just checked yes I have both and both are great hacks I love, I have so many I hadn't remembered those until you mentioned them thanks!

Maybe something like Neo did for me like this "idea and graphics PacManPlus additional graphics and technical programming SuperCat" Oh LordHelmet had a part of this too, my involvement wasn't much so I except nothing for me. Wade PS probably all real names would be best. -
This is so cool it really looks like a sequal to River Raid! Wade

Much agreed, it just keeps getting more amazing, the things being done for 2600 games! Maybe you and Supercat could have something like me and Neo with Mad Max? That is cool, there is a respect both ways, me for starting it and him for taking it beyond where I thought it was finished, it was just the beginning. Wade -
LOL I love the story, great idea!! Wade

I have gone through the whole thread and at no time do I see where Frankenstein's monster was called Frankenstein? Frankenstien was the doctor or maybe 'Mad Scientist" the monster was called the monster by both Tim and I. But I am glad to know his first name was Victor, I could not remember that and just called him Frankenstien like I had some teachers that just called me Casaldi. lol Wade

Eh, ship color is my "fault". The red was a bit too hard too see, so I lightened it up. Hue's not great, but with the 2:1-slope planet I think the brightness is good. BTW, I'm bummed that nobody commented about my title screen pic. I really wasn't joking (a WIP, but awesome even so) OHHHHHHHHHHHH MAN AWESOME LOGO!!!!!!!!!!!! You can do that, wow excellent, oh yes you are the one that did the scanner you are a quite good hacker! Wade -
Frankenstein's monster has taken Frankenstein's pet tarantula! LOL Maybe Frankenstein needs it to feed Igor! LOL I love this, the look and I can't wait to download it.! Wade

2600 Defender Arcade - Pretty Much Complete!
Pac Munchkin replied to PacManPlus's topic in Atari 2600 Hacks
Hi: Thanks for the post. It isn't to say that it's not my hack, It's just that I never felt right with it in there, and now moreso because there's been a few people that have helped me. Exactly like you said; it's a community thing, so for me to take all the credit for this hack isn't right. I did start it, so I will be making carts of it, but that's about it. Also, Wade mentioned that the look of the landers changed? Not in the one I posted (see screen shot). Also as far as the ship, I've been doing comparisons with MAME to get the looks of the sprites (except the bombers) and there seems to be *something* toward the nose of the ship (not quite sure what it is - see picture). But a few people have complained about this so if people think I should take out that little bump by the nose of the ship, I will do so. Yes that is the red color of the three lights the blue is next then the orange, they seem to change colors back and fourth, but I think if you do it in red black red it achieves that same effect, or a closeness to it, and that is close to what you have now. I zoomed in on it at probably 100x using my firefox picture zoom. I see what you mean about the pixels being twice as wide, maybe you could go down to 5 pixels to get the look of the arcade 9 pixels? These are just little things oh but that color orange I don't know where that changed but it should be back to the red you had just before it, not the first red but the one just before it went to orange. Anyway I am liking this hack you are doing a great job, and I do think you deserve credit and respect. Wade -

Just thought of an idea, you say stella works until you try to load that game, and you can not change the stella setting back because it closes down. Ok here is my idea it is a duct tape solution but it may work. Re-name the game so Stella thinks it is another game and goes back to automatic, then you can select the right setting for it. Wade -

Thanks. I knew about the screen going blank or the game not looking right after the title screen and that we have to reload, but whatever setting I tried is now locked in and Stella totally closes itself down if I try to run the game. Looks like I'll have to wait until the next version unless there is an easy way to edit the file Stella stores the information in. Wow sorry man I tried helping as much as I knew but you need someone with more tecnical experience with Stella. Maybe re-install stella? I see that you love ET I hope you liked my ET's Candy Bars game! But back on topic try maybe re-installing Stella and then setting the cart type to F6SC for this newest version of Arcade Defender. Yes the color is messed up now, that orange color not like the arcade defender. Also the landers are back to the wide bent leg landers instead of the thin straight leg landers like they were changed to? The arcade has the thin straight leg landers. I think the explosion can not be changed for the reason it looks at least to me that all explosions share the same sprite, I noticed shooting a lander or bomber looks the same as when my ship explodes. Of course they all could be different just the programer decided to make all the explosions the same, not sure I would have to check, but I did have an idea to make the ships explosion look more like the partical ball rather then the lines. something like this. OOXOXOXO OXOXOXOX XOXOXOXO OXOXOXOO Ahh looks too much like a checker board! LOL It would need work but it is Bob's hack. Wade -

I now actually use the new Stella now that I actually have some hard drive space for it to run correctly. The setting I found was F8SC for the 8bit version and F6SC for the 16 bit version. If you chose the wrong one your screen goes black when you load the rom but if you press tab it will still get you to the properties to change to the correct one, remember after the change you need to let it load then press ESC and reload the rom. I just checked my Mame Defender and yes the landers look more thin in the arcade version also the bombers too. The ship I was a little surprised to see has no sight that we all thought we remembered on it, that was the flashing color windshield? I was wondering if the ship could be black and red or stripped in some spots to give a more appearance of looking like the arcade ship maybe for the windshield black red black red? On the other hand it might just look like pieces missing? Color scanner is great too, I am glad to see the best hackers all working to make this incredibly like the arcade probably even passing off the original Stargate game it started out as. Wade -

Execllent work!!! Yes your ship is better than the one I came up with, and the people do look much better not standing on platforms like they are waiting for the bad guys to pick them up! lol Wade -
I re-hacked my ET's Candy Bars for the Z26 colors, it looks way better now! Note this is hacked for Z26 colors on Stella the maroon score bar is blue and the guards are almost invisible, on Z26 all the colors are perfect now, the guards are very easy to see wearing a darker green then my earlier hack of this. The candy bars are chocolet brown like I had on Stella you can clearly see everything, ET is the dark green I had on Stella. basicly I did this because ET's Candy Bars looked very poor on Z26.
