Can Atari Falcons still get on the internet?
Paolo replied to Sean39's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Well, a Falcon can give a nice web experience, actually. No Flash or Javascript currently, but otherwise you have a good basic web browsing. You have Highwire, Netsurf, Link, and CAB with various degrees of compliance. I suggest Netsurf, that is a currently developed multi-platform browser, to be used with MiNT (I don't know if TOS/GEM is suitable, since you need the LAN drivers). Highwire is also good. Various e-mail programs give you a good choice, ICQ and IRC are covered, too, and you have two or three solid and functional FTP programs. The first suggestion is to check what option to choose on the physical side of the connection (EtherNAT, NetUSBee, ...) -
You know, I was going to use that jingle while bootstrapping my Falcon, but I didn't like it much, so I went searching and used an original jingle instead. But, yes, it's cool that they used that tune in Jag. I ever read the story of that, where programmers were told to use a very minimal amount of memory for the booting screen, so they had to manually "score" the tune in memory...

Hmmm... my package left the US on Dec 9th, and it doesn't have much to travel... but still... (I'm glad I didn't choose to pack here (IT) and then slingshot overseas...)

HI, STONE! Maybe we have some news, here: nearly 50 copies may be well be the *rarest* Jag game in existence!!!111ONE! This should blow BSG off the water big time... I think I'll list mine for, hmmm..., say, ... 1500 Euros, starting bid 1499, reserve at 5000, hehe! You know, I still hope to get more gameplay, and every now and then I give a spin at it, sometimes trying to play "nice" in order to go far, and sometimes playing "hard", in order to get, well, you know, ...

Help with ST display problem please guys!
Paolo replied to grant74's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Heh, you might want to chose carefully what to run on that ST, and set up a nice show while making your connection tests. Oh, and don't forget a friend with a camera! -

It is also my understanding that those new-fangled TVs aren't such tolerant as our old-style CRTs, so it also might be the case of your Bravia not liking Jag's sync... In this case you might need to go through lots of hops to correctly feed your Bravia. -
I like pinball fantasies, but the fact is that I had Obsession on my STe, and *any* other pinball game pales... its music, its smoothness, ahhh! ( )

Robinson's Requiem now available for the Jaguar CD
Paolo replied to Songbird's topic in Atari Jaguar
Heh... when I read that you need "isopropyl, old t-shirt and a credit card" I immediately thought "why do I need an old t-shirt and isopropyl for buying a new JagCD?" -

OK, thanks. I'll wait for Nick's order page. -

Oh, boy! Jus two days off AA and look at this! I was sure Carl had something really big up his sleeve, since we didn't hear from him for a nice while... Now, I am in doubt whether ordering from Carl himself, since I always had a nice experience buying directly from Songbird, or waiting for Nick. Time for special price is running out, and I don't have enough details about Nick's deal. Can someone update me? -
I somehow imagine who can it be... :-)

Atari and Microsoft and the ST
Paolo replied to carmel_andrews's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Sorry, I keep calling Worpad as Write... However, both are just good as Notepad as far as for writing text (now that Notepad has overridden that 32k filesize limit). Being an half-*ssed wordprocessor doesn't make it any better than a texteditor. (and, by the way, even so they have a long way to go to reach features like auto-indent, sintax highlight and other features that Atari texteditors have had since -well- forever) :-) -
This really saddens me. She surely haas been a nice and helpful person. Rest in peace, Alison. My condolences to her family an friends.

Atari and Microsoft and the ST
Paolo replied to carmel_andrews's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Used every program ever made, have you? However did you find the time? Jokes aside, was Write ever on anything else? Was it some weird sister to WORD or an early version of it. Never understood that product and not much about it out there information wise. Hehe, I used a pretty lot of software (on Atari, on Linux, on Mac and on Windoze), and even a lot of editing software (1st word plus, redacteur, papyrus, msword from the DOS version onwards, easywrite, easy, wordstar, neo/open/star/libreOffice, and someone else. But NO atari program *ever* clogged my floppy or hard disk with temporary files. Just MSWrite. Also, Microsoft Write is on every Windows version up to now. I assume it started being a minor sister to Word for Windows, and later being an enhanced 'notepad'. -
Using an Atari keyboard with Mac/PC

Nah! The noSTalgia effect is more -ahem- effective if you plug the Mega/TT keyboard to a Mega/TT machine -
Atari and Microsoft and the ST
Paolo replied to carmel_andrews's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Oh, boy! I had Microsoft Write on the ST and it has been the worst program ever made. Ever! It was the *only* program that wrote loads of temporary files on the floppy, without cleaning up when closing. It was a joke of software, and a testament to how good coders at microsoft are. -
Oh, come on CJ! Everybody knows that 'One firebutton is all we need!' Are you corrupting our childhood memories???

What is the probablity of ever finding a Battlesphere gold?
Paolo replied to MAYAman's topic in Atari Jaguar
I don't know why, but I still clearly remember that the charity thing ended with BattleSphere original, not Gold
