As a business owner I can tell you why. It costs the company to be able to accept those cards. So they're carrying the two most popular cards only in order to save costs. Ebay wouldn't lose anything (directly anyway) by carrying Google Checkout. I understand - I have set up merchant accounts myself. AmEx also tends to take higher percentages of sales from transactions (though this is decreasing), so a lot of small businesses avoid using them. However, eBay loses money directly by carrying Google Checkout, since they profit every time money goes through their PayPal subsidiary. The one difference betwen this and a regular buisness though is you're not paying ebay when you buy something...you're paying the seller. I would think it should be the person getting paid who gets to decide which forms of payment they accept. Is it ebay that gets screwed by paybacks? no...it's the seller. Is it ebay that gets screwed by a scammer...no it's the buyer. Now if ebay was escrowing these auctions , then sure, they should be able to decide under which terms they will escrow, but as it stands, all ebay does is provide a market for people to sell their goods, and they're already compensated for that through fees.

Interesting. What has affected sales generally since Summer 2005 do you think? Actually I was talking about stuff being in a steady decline since 2001. The main reason being that supply has outpaced demand on a lot of the more common stuff. There are still people who are coming in and our hobby is getting bigger all the time, but at the moment more carts have entered the party than people. At the moment unless it is extremly rare it probably has gone done a little in value. Certain things have gone up in value though. Like rarity 5 and higher boxed stuff. And some loose rarity 9 games and most loose rarity 10 games are still going up in value. Every thing goes in cycles. At the moment the cycle is on the low end. One day this cycle will reverse though. Who knows, maybe the King of Kong movie will reverse the trend. I say it's the masses have moved on from atari. Look at NES auctions over the same time period and you'll see a steady rise in sales and prices. also look at some of the more obscure older consoles. You almost can't give away most O2 games even if they are complete. common intellivision games are the same. It's just there are more new collectors moving into the next console generation. Yes I agree that Nintendo is the hot item right now. But Atari still has it's supporters and the masses have not moved on at all. Last time I checked CPUWIZ, Bfstats, Marco, Wonder007,ianoid, and the rest of the big players seem to be not going anywhere. We still are getting new members all the time. If you don't believe me just check out how many people have joined Atariage this year alone. Last time I checked it was over 2,500 people(on pace to be the most ever in one year). That is the biggest number we have had in awhile. Udisi trust me we have grown. The problem is that Nintendo explosive growth over the same time period has made it look like we have not grown. You know I am tired of people having negative attitudes about the system. For crying out loud this website is called AtariAge, yet sometimes I feel like I am going to a Nintendo Fanboy site. Look if you want to talk smack on the Atari 2600 I am sure there are a thousand Nintendo sites that would love to hear from you. But personally I don't appreciate being done on Atari's home turf. Yes, the big collectors are still here, like CPUWHIZ, Marco, etc, but the new growth in Atari collectors don't not exceed the amount of common games. There is a little new lifeblood in Atari, but nothing near the new lifeblood in NES or even newer consoles. I'm 27, and was 3 or so when my family got a 2600. Most big Atari collectors are older than me and have been in the scene since the mid 90's if not sooner. The majority of people who are nostalgic about atari are already in the scene, and the people who never originally played the system that join the scene are not nearly as large of a demographic as the nostalgic gamer. Also yes, Atariage has grown, but as you said.."Sometimes I feel like I'm coming to a Nintendo fanboy site" ... That's because atariage has grown to encompass classic gamming in general as well as modern gaming. (similar to DP or RFgeneration) I'm not talking trash on the Atari, I'm just stating an observation. At some point new blood will peak, and I think in the Atari's case, it has. It will happen to the NES too. Don't let the join date or post count fool you. I was here in 2002. I've seen things change.

Why all this fuss?.... 1)It's a homebrew....not like it's a million dollar item 2)It's tetris....yeah cool you can play tetris on the atari...or you could just play 1 of the 1000 other versions on any amount of systems 3)not like the rom ain't floating around....whats to stop anyone from putting it on an atari cart. who cares about what did and didn't happen with Hozer. Did we really need 2 pages about this?

Sotheby's extensive archive of original Atari marketing materials
udisi replied to bfstats's topic in Auction Central
well 2 things here... 1) Is this the first video game related Sotheby's Auction? I don't know of another one. 2)This seems a bit seep to me. Sure the mterials are neat, but I can't see them being worth $125k-$250k. -
I say who cares, they're all pirates anyway.

Whats a boxed NTSC Espial (NIB) worth?
udisi replied to Cassidy Nolen's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
Like they haven't been doing this for the past year? What makes you think they'd stop now -
Did you sell your other Wisdom Tree stuff? or you keeping that.
-
Definitly it's the tracking thing with me. I blame paypal because of their requirements. Right now a lot of UK people would love to buy stuff in the US because of the exchange rate.

How bout we all grow up, act like adults, and stop crapping on Riffraff's sale thread.

Be glad you got ebay to atleast fix your feedback. That's something, and that's better than ebay's usual nothing. -

Craigslist (River Patrol, Music Machine... etc)
udisi replied to EricDeLee's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
This has got to be a BS post. He doesn't just have rare atari stuff listed but his nes and snes stuff is also stuff you just don't have in a lot of 20 random games. He has a nes stadium events and a snes Starfox super weekend and all those atari games and doesn't know what he has?....I don't think so. -
yeah probably won't get paid for cause I doubt it exists. The seller didn't respond to any questions that I'm aware of. I guess we can wait and see what if anything the buyer says, but I don't think anything will come of this.
-
If he actually wanted to sell it, $2500 probably is a good offer for a loose one. Even one with Docs and a Box would have a tough time getting more than 4-5k.

Hasn't someone killed you yet?

I sure as hell hope so... I must have taken 50 photos to get just 3 good, usable ones. Damn new camera. Can anyone link me to or post a pic of a chip that can be written to? I have no idea what looks right and what doesn't. Hey dude..it's real. Get a good Atlantis label and close it up. If CPU thinks it's real...You have the real thing...Great score!! I tend to agree it looks real, but what keeps anyone from showing a random imagic board and saying they took it out of the cart? all he would have to do is ruin the sticker on a few carts. just playing devil's advocate
