It would be nice if we could see a screenshot comparison between the original arcade game and the VCS version. What do the other AtariAge-members think?

Mister VCS -
Today I got my Obelix-cart from ebay. It was a great feeling playing this game the first time after 16 years. The sprites are fantastic (Panoramix/Miraculix) and the gamplay is pure fun. Is there a NTSC game with another charakter like Taz / Asterix? I think was made for the European market only. It is strange that Atari decided in 1983 to release a game inspired by a comic that is nearly unknown in the US.

A few years ago I used to play Circus Atari when I was thinking of my personal future. It is a good game to relax, and while I was playing it I was thinking about the next steps in my life. While I was playing, I listened to the radio and had a fresh glas of beer near the VCS. What is your favourite?

Wer kommt auf die 8bit Tauschbörse in Frankfurt?
Mister VCS replied to Mister VCS's topic in International
Mister VCS

I don´t think that the 2600jr is a cheap 2600 from the technical side. The screen-display is sharper and cleaner than on a 2600 4 switch (which is the technical poorest VCS).And there is no "snow" effect when you press the reset or select button. Just like the 6 switch! On the other side I miss the retro feeling when I play games on my Jr. My favourite VCS would be a 4switch all-black model with the internals of the Jr. or the 6 switch. Mister VCS

There is an another error: The title-screen says "Midnite Magic" instead of "Midnight Magic"! What is the story behind this? Who was the programmer?

Is there a proto for 2600 Galaga? What is the story behind Ataris decision not to release a 2600 Galaga ? I think it could be done. Galaxian has some good graphics but the gameplay goes boring very soon. But it is a better version than the C 64 Galaxian, which looks like basic-written game. No one who owns Phoenix or Space Invaders needs a 2600 Galaxian.

In my childhood (the highdays of the VCS) i owend several rare games, but unfortunatly i gave it away for other common games. For example i owned Obelix, Beamrider (not rare but uncommon in Germany), and Buck Rogers. On a bad day I changed Obelix for Demons to Diamonds (because of the strange game title), and some day I DESTROYED Buck Rogers. Now I am looking forward to get Obelix from ebay (after 17 years). I think it was a funny game. And i remember the day i saw in a german warehouse Pengo, but this day (1984) i decided to buy Crystal Castles. I never saw this game again. What are your memories?

I often heard that the VCS Defender was a dissapontment (not as bad as Pac Man, but most Atari-fans think it could have been done better). I am a "fan" of VCS Defender! I like the blocky town more than the "vector" hills in the original-game. It is more challenging to defend people from a (blocky) city than humanoids in the hills. I loved the imagination as a child. The bad thing is the fact that your spacship dissapears when you shoot. But I think it was well done for a 4k game (was it 4k)? I know of course the superior update Stargate, but it was made 3 years later.

I heard that Atari stopped supporting the 5200 in 1983/1984. Why was Atari producing cartridges for this system in 1986? The 5200 was dead since 2 years! Did they re-release the unit in 1986? In Germany the 5200 never saw the light of the day, because Atari Germany didn´t want a competition between the 5200 and the 600/800 XL.

Z_ero: I don´t use a switchbox. The german Atari consoles didn´t included a switchbox. We just plug the antenna-cable in the antenna-in of the tv set.

A few weeks ago I got my first woody 4switch 2600A made in Hong Kong. Crossbow told me that the picture quality on the woody 2600A should be better than on an all black 2600A. When I played with the system on my 1995 Sony TV set I got the same ill effects as with my all black system (fuzz and static on many games, but not at all). What is wrong with the 2600A? Back in the 80ies Atari must had some trouble with his costumers with this cheap-made systems. The picture on the 6switch Hong Kong 2600P is perfect, with all of my games, and the 2600jr is even better than the 2600AP models.

I know Atari stopped supporting the 2600 in 1991, but was there an official press-release or a concret date? Another question: was Atari moving from his headquarter in 1984 when Tramiel bought it from Warner?

Back in the late 70ies /early 80ies the G 7000 was in competition with the Atari 2600. Today I looked at the G 7000 screenshots at DP and I am depressed! The graphic is a lot more primitive then the most 2600 games. Just compare Q-bert, Frogger or Demon Attack on both systems. Is there a way to program graphically advanced games on the G 7000? The 1990ies Amok is´nt impressive atl all.

I remember back in 1979 when my brother got his VCS, it was a Sunnyvale sixer but not the different looking heavy-sixer. The sticker on the bottom was blue, and the plastic around the switches was differnet from the later models (my english is bad, so I explain it as "a wall around the switches, the plastic was "higher"). Unfortunatly it was broken in the early 1990ies and today i did not own it). I haver never seen this VCS version again! Is there a pic of this model on the net?

Is there a chance to catch a copy of this game in cartridge-format? I am very interested.
