  1. Which Atari game console has the best design? My suggestions: 1.i 2600 VCS 4 switch darth vader (mix between traditional VCS design and modern electronic-art) 2. 2600 Junior short rainbow 3. 7800 NTSC 4. VCS 6switch (the classic) bad design 1. 5200 (too big) 2. 2600 long rainbow (you can t see the power lamp 3. VCS four switch (poor man woody) 4. Jaguar
  2. I own the CV-version which is not very good (bad control and scrolling). I know the Intellivision-version which is very impressive (good sound and gameplay). What´s about the VCS-version? Is anybody selling a PAL-version to me?
  4. Today I remember the day I got in touch with the VCS for the first one. It was Christmas-day in 1979 when my brother got his VCS (6switch, blue Sunnyvale-made-sticker on the back, bot not heavy sixer). It came with paddles and joysticks and Combat. Naturally Combat was the first VCS game I ever played. A few days (or weeks) later my brother bought Street Racer and Chopper Command. The next games where Space Invaders and Asteroids. The Asteroids cart had a bug and he changed it to Missile Command. What are your memories?
  5. I would like to see 2600 reviews with a rating system, maybe from Alex, Albert or Tempest. Comments are welcome!
  6. My top-ten 10. Midnight Magic (very realistic- for the 2600 of course) 9. Zaxxon (not the Arcade-game, but challenging and "feels like Zaxxon") 8. Smurf ( better than the Colecovision-game) 7. Enduro ( super driving game for the 2600, fast and colorful) 6. Fatal Run (good graphik, and complex) 5. Star Wars: The Arcade Game (fast and arcade feeling) 4. Stargate (a debugged Defender) 3. Pitfall II (complex and good graphik) 2. Crystal Castles ( complex and good graphik) 1. Solaris ( the masterpiece for the 2600) not in the list, but very good: Mario Bros., Mr. Do!, Ghostbusters I and II, Road Runner, Missile Command, Defender, Decathlon Space Shuttle, Circus Atari, Xenophobe, Joust, Moon Patrol, Jungle Hunt., F 14 Fighter, Popeye, Q-bert, Double Dragon, Space Invaders, Pole Position. Flop ten 10. Swordquest-series (boring) 9. Donkey Kong (feel unfinished) 8. Reactor (what is going on?) 7. Dark Chambers (very boooring) 6. Mouse Trap ( it hurts my eyes) 5. Aliens Return (boring) 4. Star Wars: Jedi Arena (boring, no fun) 3. Star Wars: The Empire strikes back (boring) 2. Night Driver ( no challenge, but it was made in 1978) 1. Space War ( is this a game?) not in the list, but very bad: Battlezone, Frogger (Parker), Demon Attack, Demons to Diamonds, Congo Bongo, Air-Sea-Battle. Comments are welcome
  7. War jemand auf der 8-Bit Messe in Frankfurt am 24.11.? Kann mir jemand davon berichten wie es war? Findet in Deutschland in nächster Zeit eine ähnliche Veranstaltung statt?
  8. Do you think this is a good game? I don t think this is really improvement to River Raid.
  9. I own a Missle Command card (PAL) with a 1991 copyright. It is the latest copyright for an Atari VCS card from Atari I have ever seen. My Salu Ghostbusters II says 1992 on the box, but 1990 on the card.
  10. Tempest: I have german CBS Colecovison Catalog which promotes Wizard of Wor for the CV, the 2600 and INTV. There is a screen- shot of CV Wizard of Wor on the back of my german CBS Colecovision-package. The catalog promotes Solar Fox as a Colecovision-only-game. There is an article number for CV Wizard of Wor (I think its from the german distribute called "Arxon", a former game-factory in Germany).
  11. Wizard of Wor and Solar Fox was originally planned for the Colecovision and translations for Atari VCS and Intellivison. I wonder why the CV versions where never released. Only the Atari versions exist. In my old CV catalog there are ordering numbers for this CV games, and Wizard of Wor was one of the CV starting titles in Germany. Are there any protos? By the way, is there an Intellivision-Smurf? I need a screeenshot.
  12. Which was your favourite video game magazine in the classic area? Mine was the german magazine "Telematch". It had connections to the electronic game magazine. Anybody knows "Telematch"? The reviews of the classic games where very critical and pazifistic. The blamed games such as "Robot Tank" and "Battlezone". Battlezone was rated 5 on a scala from 1 to 6 (6 was the badest). The Telematch guys loved games such as Space Shuttle, Wing War (Coleco), Decathlon and Q bert (all rated 1).

    Zaxxon

This week i got my copy of Zaxxon for the 2600. Don´t think i am crazy, but it isn´t as bad as i heard. When you play the game on level 2 it is a real challenge. Naturally, the graphic is cutted down, but there is a real "Zaxxon feeling" especially the sound. Don´t blame coleco for this game!
  14. Hi, here are some highligths of my collecton: (PAL versions) 6switch woodgrain Asterix 4switch darth vader BMX-Air-Master (TNT) 2600jr short rainbow Fatal Run Quelle Compumate Klax with Manual Road Runner Original Joysticks, Atari-pads, Ghostbusters II Atari Track Ball Star Wars: Arcade Game, Jedi Arena Paddles Donkey Kong Jr. Gas Hog Aliens Return What would you pay for it?
  15. Suche Tauschpartner in Deutschland, speziell Raum München bei Interesse: [email protected]
  16. Which version of the woodgrain do you own? The picture on the 6switch is perfect. I have problems with the picture on my 4 switch at some games. View my recent posts for details.
  17. In my opinion, the Colecovision is a "third generation system" in one line with the Atari 7800 and Intellivision (16-Bit!) My list: 1st: Pong, Odyssey 1 etc. 2nd: Odyssey2 (G7000/ 7400), Atari VCS 2600, Hanimex 2650, Vectrex 3rd: Colecovison, Atari 5200, Intellivision, NES, SMS, Atari 7800 4th: SNES, Genisis, PC-Engine, NEO Geo, Turbo-Grafx 5th: Playstation, Atari Jaguar, Saturn 6th: PS2, Dreamcast Comments are welcome!
  18. What are the typical promblems with the VCS (power adapter, switches, joystick-ports for e.g.)? I think all 2600ers are very durable (in coparison with the colecovision for example), but the best-built is the 6-switch VCS. My list 6-switch 2600 Junior 4 switch wood 4 switch black The poorest quality control was in the Ireland factory, the best in Sunnyvale and Hong-Kong
  19. Just a quick question: Is there a PAL version of Track & Field? I can´t remember seeing it in German warehouses. I would love to play the VCS version, because I have the original controller from the C-64 Atarisoft version!
  20. I remember back in 1987 i got a C 64 to my birthday (# 16 by the way). I loved playing International Soccer with my friends, but nothing could beat the magic of my VCS (my brothter got it at christmas 1979). In 1987 the C 64 was the most popular computer/gaming machine in West-Germany, but i didn´t really loved this "beast". After a few years and several tapes, disks and cartridges i went back to the 2600. I couldn´t explain this, but the 2600 is really a symol of my childhood!
  21. It would be great if there are scans of all 2600 owner manuals at atariage. I only own the silver international manual for the darth-vader and the cheap 2600 Junior manual. Come on, AtariAge gods!

    Smurf

Back in 1983 i saw a very different screenshot (?) from the VCS-version of Smurf with blocky graphiks. The trees are very blocky and in the background of the first screen you see a ugly gargamels castle. The screen was shown in the December issue of the German magazine "Telematch" (counterpart to electronic games). Is there a prototype?
  23. Hallo Spaceball! Suche Tauschpartner für VCS, besonders in München Habe einiges im Angebot Melde dich doch mal auf meiner e-mail Adresse [email protected]
  24. I would love to see a Highscore-Section for the 2600 at Atariage. What do you think? Everyone shoud see my glorious Pole Position score (60.910) I made back in 1984
  25. I am not exicted about the new Infogrames- titles for the PS2 with the Atari-Logo. There is nothing Atari in this game-boxes. Infogrames and Hasbro did the same cheap thing- putting the Atari-Logo on there own games. The original Atari was a famous hard- and software developer- the Coca-Cola of Videogames. It would be better for the big Atari-name to dissapear for ever than printing the logo on some stupid Hasbro or Infograme-titels. My dream is a Atari-comeback with the money of TimeWarner in Sunnyvale with some old Atari-programmers. THIS IS ATARI - not the stickers on french Infogrames-Titles! th
