  1. French instructions? Well on a dodgy photocopied sheet maybe. I've got a few German instructions in my PAL boxes, in the same style layout as the English ones.

And if you don't want your PAL 7800 games (Double Dragon, Kung Fu Master, F18 Tomcat etc), then I'd be happy to take them off you

  2. Is this the US C64 version of Commando perhaps? I think there were two versions, one written here in the UK and one written over in the US. The UK version is decent enough, but only has 3 levels. However the MUSIC is absolutely brilliant, and well worth the reason to download and play on an emulator. Better than anything the 7800 sound chip could hope to achieve now!

  3. Mitch - I would also be interested in Touchdown Football besides Robotron and Winter Games. I know WG doesn't work on PAL machines, but as it wasn't released here anyhows, makes no difference, just want it for the collection. I was told Robotron wasn't released on PAL either, and I haven't found anyone in the UK with a PAL copy of it. If you want to mail me and discuss a trade/sale, then you can write to [email protected]

Trade wise I have the following PAL 7800 stuff (boxed w/ instructions unless otherwise noted):

    Basketbrawl (no instr)

    Xenophobe

    Fatal Run

    Motor Psycho

    Fight Night

    Planet Smashers

    Dig Dug

    Mean 18

    Mean 18 (no instr)

    Jinks

    Food Fight (shrink)

    Hat Trick (shrink)

    Super Huey (shrink)

JagD - sorry, no Videopac stuff, I only collect for C64 and 7800 at the mo. Still interested in the PAL Scrapyard Dog if you want to sell it. Anything else you might be after that I could have?

  4. Well I'm still missing Scrapyard Dog from your list JagD, so I'm interested in that one you have. Maybe Ninja Golf too, currently getting it from someone else, depends if he can find it though.

Anything you are after PAL wise? I've got a fair few trades including Motor Psycho, Basketbrawl, Xenophobe and Dig Dug. Failing that, hard cash (US$) I suppose!

  6. I'd be interested in the Robotron and Winter Games boxed with instructions (as neither were released here on PAL AFAIK), and a 7800 compatible lightgun if you have one (still trying to find something to play Sentinel, Meltdown etc with!).

If you want anything PAL back, I do have a fair few to trade, including Mean 18...

  7. >i've been getting all my stuff off ebay.

    >who are HES? How much have you been paying

    >for your cartridges? i averaged out all the

    >prices i paid and it works out about £3.50

    >a cart; all but 3 were boxed and half are

    >still sealed in shrinkwrap.

Probably a little bit more on average, just depends where you get from really. But most of mine have been shrinkwrapped as well. I'd say the two 7800s, lightgun and 40 different games have cost me around £250 so far, I will have a few dupes after this too.

HES = Home Entertainment Suppliers, an Australian company who published both licensed and unlicensed cartridges for a number of machines such as 2600, 7800, C64 and Nintendo. A number of the non-Atari brand 7800 games were published in PAL by them, which makes that route the best way to get them.

    >i released yesterday that 5200 = 2 x 2600

    >and 7800 = 3 x 2600 I always wondered why

    >they chose those numbers.....

    >why 2600 in the first place?

No idea, but the multiplying up was deliberate. Having said that, the 5200 was originally going to be the 3200...

    >i thought sentinel was going to be a

    >lightgun version of the BBC micro game. I

    >was EXTREMELY dissapointed when i got it

    >and found out it wasnt, because that would

    >have been a GENIUS idea

I thought it might have been a version of the Synsoft "Star Raiders" clone for the C64, before finding out it was a different lightgun game. No idea what this BBC version you are talking about is now, never came across that one...

  8. I need all the ones you do apart from Super Skateboarding. I also need Centipede and maybe a couple of other PAL ones I can't think of offhand. Most of those listed are likely to be found in Australia, as HES (different to the US company of the same name) released some themselves.

As for the lightgun, there wasn't one specifically made for the 7800. Most people (like myself) end up getting the XG1 which came with one of Atari's computers instead. Works fine apparently. Or you can use other makes with a little rewiring done.

  9. Welcome to the fold!

Like yourself, I live in the UK and have recently just started getting into the 7800. And funnily enough when the current orders I have are processed, I'll have 40 games collected as well (and a lightgun too). I've been trying to find out what games were NTSC only, and so far it's come down to the 2 Froggo games and Robotron. Don't know anymore at the mo. Perhaps you can enlighten me as to what you've found out.

    >Is there any way to play them on a PAL system?

Not as far as I know. Some of the hacks you'll find around are for desperate US owners trying to play Sentinel on their system! But for now, I don't know any conversion method. Just a case of collecting and never playing I suppose...

    >did the pro-line controller ever get released in the UK?

Not as far as I am aware. One to get in from the US. It's not too bad, similar to the controller that came with the 2600 Jr I think.

    >also do master system light guns work on the atari?

Don't think so directly, but can probably rewire it. I'm sure info like this is featured in the 7800 FAQ on this site.

    >did the 5200 actually get released in the UK?

No. That's a definite answer. It's NTSC only. If you want to collect for it, you'll have to import from the US and then either rewire or homebrew a PAL conversion board so you can plug it into a TV. I have friends who have done this, so if you are REALLY keen on getting one, then I can find out how to do it properly.

  10. I currently have 40 PAL 7800 games, was wondering how many in total were not released outside US (ie. only NTSC) so I know realistically how many more I have to get? Presumably the Froggo games weren't, but after that...? Just not sure. I heard Robotron wasn't either...
