  1. I was going to post on YakYak when we had some firm plans, but it's a good point well made. If anyone else (Link?) has a Supergun they could bring along I could supply some arcade-pcb gaming goodness...for a start I've just bought Radiant Supergun Stone
  2. Version 0.91's out right now... Stone

Does VJ use hardwired colourmaps or something? I only ask cos Worms was similarly weird until it was tweaked a little... Stone
  4. Loading times interfered with gameplay, and they preferred to move to cart rather than completely rewrite the game engine. Seems fair enough to me Stone
  5. I'd go for VidGrid (ace!) and a cart game, or Blue Lightning if you liked Afterburner Stone
  6. Sounds to me like a duff CD. Got any others you can try? I can post you a BJL demo stuffed onto a CD if you want... Stone
  7. Long ago...long ago Not with my cart...I was almost as confused as Tyrant, I just concealed it better Stone
  8. Speaking only for Phear, it's not down to its commercial viability...Nintendo paid VERY big bucks for the exclusive rights to the title (on the N64 as Tetrisphere), and part of that was the understanding that games based on the concept would only ever be released on Nintendo consoles. Which sucks Stone
  9. A load of ST stuff from what I recall...you're not missing much Stone

    Jag game vidz

I've got a neat little collection of Jaguar-related vids (mostly 30secs of so of in-game for different games) which I think I culled from www.atari-jaguar64.de - not sure if they're still there. If they aren't, drop me a PM and I might be able to sort you out a CD-R Stone
  11. And they didn't even need anti-piracy protection to have this effect It's a good game (slightly marred by the loading times); don't let your first experience spoil the effect Stone
  12. We had plenty of beer...the food was only a problem because I hadn't had anything to eat since 6am and was starting to get a bit tipsy Stone
  13. Planned? Surely 'plotted' is more appropriate Same venue as last year, plus a room...right? First thing I'd change from last year would be to organise some food properly, making sure there's enough to feed everyone who wants it. I didn't get around to eating on the first day cos you hungry lot scoffed all the sarnies before I got there If that means having it behind the bar and making people pay for it that would be fine by me, but a repeat of this year's would make me unhappy, cos I need feeding Second thing...more Jag stuff! I thought we had too many retro people around Third thing: more planning for the network(s). Laying out the consoles / cables beforehand would have simplified things a lot...likewise making sure the carts don't get swapped, cos the incompatible Aircars messed things up. Fourth thing: Make sure Tyrant doesn't organise any tourneys, he was getting all hot and bothered Fifth thing...I can't think of a fifth thing Seriously though, it actually went very well (especially from my point of view ) so I'm pretty much happy if it goes along broadly similar lines...food is important though, I'm sure you agree with me Nick Stone
  14. Define 'rather rough'. 1.2 rings bells... Bear in mind if you use a CD bypass method to load a badly-copied CD it will often shaft the gameplay. Stone
  15. Whether you have socketed BIOS or not just depends on the board revision. No reason for it, they just took it out on later models to save some pennies. The green wire is probably a patch from where they didn't realise they'd screwed up until they'd ordered 500,000 boards Stone [edit: I can't spell ]

    Jaguar T-Shirt

That sounds cool...but screw the new Atari, it's a perfectly legitimate Japanese word, and if you use the old (nicer) fuji they won't do anything Funnily I got asked if I could help out on release dates when wearing my Atari shirt (big fuji + name, on dark blue) at JagfestMicro; it wasn't for a good 10 seconds that I realised he meant the new Atari, and it transpired he didn't know about the old one Stone
  17. I was told it still had placeholder graphics. I couldn't figure out how to resume after a ref decision either But then it wouldn't surprise me if they were trying to get it rushed out as a last-ditch effort Anyone else spot the BIWN advert? Stone
  18. Thanks The chip is easy enough to make if you own or have access to an EPROM burner. If not you could try local electronics/repair stores and get them to do it for you, even somewhere like Radio Shack might let you testdrive a burner if you ask nicely/social engineer a bit Or just ask, plenty of people here can hook you up. Sadly I'm all out now...and my burner needs a severe overhaul Stone
  19. You should only need: Red Green Blue Horizontal Sync Vertical Sync Ground. Though I've seen monitors that work with RGB/ground and composite sync only, and I think the official Atari cables use seperately wired grounds for Red, Green and Blue (using multi-shielded cable - one shield per colour and an overall shield). Try both and see Stone
  20. Damn, missed it...never got around to buying my own CF I'm just as confused as belboz - I can't see why it would be at all useful to anyone who wasn't burning their own encrypted CDs from scratch. Seems to me some of the newer releases are more noise than signal Stone
  21. Look on page 2 It's just got two switches on the back-right (non-functional, they're plugging holes in the case ), two on the front 'corners' (region and LED colour) and two on the back (identical to Jay Smith's) which switch between BJL and Stub94 and short out the BootROM, respectively. Never quite got around to fixing that one I have picked up some more stuff since that post all that time ago though, maybe I should take some more pics one of these days Stone
  22. Nice try Linko...what is it now, 9 months since you actually did any work on your project? Given the latest news, guess now I know what you were doing instead Besides, I try never to announce anything, that way all my insane ideas can be quietly binned if they wouldn't have worked Stone

    AvP

Well... ***potential spoiler space*** (for those who want to go into the films knowing nothing ) In the novels the yautja often did all sorts of idiot things for really rather bad reasons (especially if they hadn't been Blooded yet) so expecting them to behave themselves all the time is a bit much Also, wasn't Arnie unarmed in the final bit of Predator? I seem to recall he killed him with a tree, though the last time I saw it was a *long* time ago Looks like we could be spoiled for choice in 2004, this looks awesome and I just found out today there's a Punisher film coming out too...guess I'll have to go see them all Stone
  24. Either way, the ROM was loaded on afterwards (my guess would be in the testing phases, I'm told ROMs of near-finished games were shared around the office for those with Alpines to play with). I know this isn't the board D2K was developed on, because Jeff said he only ever had one, and I'm looking at it right now. Sorry Stone
  25. It's a good point, and it certainly seems to me that a lot of collectors in Jay's position have ended up making similar decisions purely on the basis of 'their hand being forced' by the fact that other people think in this way and couldn't be relied upon to 'have some common sense'. Personally I think a lot of it's complete madness. But some of it is really unavoidable...with the bigger companies (example: Total Carnage is owned by Midway) they often hold onto their IP with complete fanaticism which completely transcends all reason. And if these companies are the kind that hire people specifically to chase up IP infringements (which many are reported to do; best example being Nintendo) then you end up with an increasingly unattractive prospect for anyone trying to release stuff. I'd be the first to agree it's ridiculous, but what can you do? At the end of the day it's up to the individual retailers if they want to shoulder personal liability if things go sour, and there aren't too many willing to do so. Stone
