A Video Game that Inspires Peace: The Oregon Trail
ewing92 replied to Rev. Rob's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I too share this memory, just in a different computer generation. In 5th grade, on Friday's at the end of the day, we had "fun time". We could drink pop and get on the computers. Always, no matter what, out of the four computers, at least 1 person was on there was playing The Oregon Trail game, on our fancy Windows '98 computers. The game was just awesome. It was one of the first PC games I ever played, and for that matter one of the first games I actually sat down and played alot besides games on my Genesis. -
"Classic Plastic" sale at Game Crazy 3 for $15
ewing92 replied to Lost Monkey's topic in Classic Console Discussion
True, I enjoy it a lot more when I go to a store and feast my eyes on some classic video games, than going online and looking at a picture of something that will take a week or two to get here. On the GameCrazy side of things, I picked up 2 Dreamcast games, Sega GT and Tony Hawk 2, in the 2 for $5 sale. They also had other sales going on, including a sale on peripherals in the front of the store. I grabbed a PS2 Wireless Logitech controller(one of the giant ones) for $2.99, and an Onimusha 3 PS2 Katana(even though half of it was missing). My biggest complaint though is that there isn't one near me. My town isn't that small(Marion, OH), but they are missing some major places such as Best Buy, Target, White Castle, and Hollywood video to name a few. -
Add another 10-0 to the score board. Wait, am I too late for this one?

Or, maybe it's his PS2 that doesn't work right? Sort of unlikely, but I have a friend who bought his PS2 in '01(surprisingly it still works), and when he tries to play certain games they don't work for him, while others do. See, he rents from family video, and he rented God of War I, and it didn't work. He took it back, got a new one, it didn't work, and then repeated it once more, still no luck. So for that case it was just his crappy PS2. So if he has an old PS2, that may be the case, but if it a slimline he is definitely lying, because I haven't encounted a single game that didn't work on a slimline PS2. Well, I guess you could ask him what kind of PS2 he has, a fat one or a slim one, and see if he's lying or not, that just seems kind of weird to ask though.

How much did all of that run you? I have to see if my local computer store has anything like that . -

The big problem I have with it is alot of it seems to be a little too predictable, like the chair one, telling how bad it was. @AtariJr:I checked out that site on the Saturn that you made and just want to give you props, It's a great site, I know I'll be going back there when I eventually buy myself a Saturn. -
The wonderfulness that is Microvision!

@Rev. Rob-Thanks for the info, i basically knew nothing of this system until now. Are the games okay, as in playable? What does the unit look like without a cartridge on it? -

My dad plays Grand Theft Auto style games, and he used to go to the arcade alot when he was younger, he used talk alot about going to the arcade and playing Joust and Frogger, and stuff like that, and he played me in a couple rounds on the 2600 a few months back. He plays GTAIII, Vice City, San Andreas, Saint's Row, True Crimes etc, and that's about it. Probably the next time he plays a video game is when GTAIV comes out, not too bad for a almost-44-year-old guy. -
Pretty good articles, it sums up alot of my thoughts and I found myself agreeing with just about everything he said.

Exactly. Myself being one of them. I would be on the HD-DVD side if they had more movies, I think Blu-Ray has more correct?, and if the HD-DVD 360 add-on was worth getting, I heard that it was a pretty shitty one compared to a stand-alone player. If I had waited to get a PS3 instead of buying a 360 last year, then I would definitely be on the Blu-Ray side, but I am just coming from a gamers perspective, as MS vs. Sony console war, MS vs. Sony format war, the wars are the same thing in my book. I will hold off until they come down to a consumer-friendly price range, until then DVDs will be my friend for the next 10 years, or until one of my friends/family has a Blu-Ray/HD-DVD player and i get jealous. As for actually choosing one based on technical specifications, I'll have to do my research. Right now though, HD-DVD seem to be going down in price alot faster than the $700-1000 Blu-Ray Players.

I played the demo and loved it, $10 does seem a little steep, so i'll hold off for a while, at least until i get Castlevania:Symphony of the Night.

This is second favorite for me, Oblivion will always be my number one. This is also second in addictiveness for me, first 2 days I had this game, i put about 20 hours on it, while Oblivion first 3 days i had it i put about 40 hours on it, but that may be do to being my first 3 days with my 360.

Went down to Columbus today, while I was there I went to GameCrazy across the street from Polaris Mall, and wow they had alot of stuff. Well, i figured that GameCrazy would have gotten rid of there stuff just like EB/GS but much to my surprise, they didn't. They had everything from NES to PS3, and nice amount of accessories and other stuff. Which, since my favorite gaming store, Game-O-Rama went out of business in '04, it is my new favorite video game store. This is the first time I've seen DreamCast games in stores for a long, long time, and I needed some DC stuff, since I haven't bought anything for it since I bought the system lot. Here's what i got for a total of $20.25 --Official Blue DC VMU ~$7.99 --Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 ~ 2.50 --Sega GT ~$2.50 (I have to take it back, doesn't work at some parts) --New Logitech Wireless PS2 Controller ~2.99 (The one that currently retails for $19.99 at Wal*Mart, it was in the front of the store, the super clearance area.) --New Onimusha 3 Katana PS2 Limited Edition Controller ~$2.99 (This goes for cheapest $70 shipped on ebay, but mine didn't have the stand or reciever, so that means I can't use it....*sigh*, at least it will look pretty good with my other video game items) -
It would definitely have to be Joe Musashi, from the Shinobi series on the Genesis, well i don't know, I'm not Japanese so it wouldn't seem right. My Second choice for a name would probably have to Albert Wesker, leader of S.T.A.R.S., from Resident Evil.

Are you serious? Holy crap that's great. That puts a smile on my face for sure. Now if only that inevitable price drop would come, I would get one.

Well, something great happened yesterday. I was on the computer and my mom comes down and hands me a pair of TI-99/4A joysticks, yes, out of nowhere. See, her parents got her the TI-99/4A when she was 10 or 11 years old, when they first came out in like '81, '82, I can't remember exactly when they came out, and she still has the boxed system with manuals/booklets, Parsec. and everything, and she let me use them/have them last summer. Well, early this spring I found the tape/program recorder she had that goes with it, not the TI one, but an Emerson one. Although It has the "to computer" cord, it came without a power cord. I think the old recorders all basically used the same power cord, although I could be wrong, and if anyone has one, I'd give you a few bucks for it. Yesterday she found the joysticks for it like mentioned above. So that's a whole gaming system/home computer setup, absolutely free for me. And I bought about an extra 15 games. i would have Speech Synthesizer. but I am truly stupid and passed it up when I seen it at the Goodwill, because I didn't know it was worth anything. That has to be my most regretted thing I've ever passed up at the Goodwill. Well everyone, now you know the story of my acquisition of my TI-99. Oh yeah, the question I was gonna ask, the fifth ghost, those joysticks look different than mine. They are the same design, but different colors. Mine are just all black, besides the logo, and have an all red fire button instead of black with red outline like yours. Maybe the other parts on mine are just from the old age, but the fire button is completely different color-wise. Were there more than one different joystick model made?

I'll try to see if I can make it up there in a few years, it's around Cleveland, correct? I live about 2 hours from there, so it isn't too far away, but it's still pretty far. EDIT: Nevermind, I was thinking of the CCAG, that's next to Cleveland, damn....

Look at his other auctions! this guy is crazy, if only he knew what he was selling.... I may have to start actually collecting for the 2600 now, his deals are just too good to pass up.

I borrowed this game from my friend until I can save up $60, and two words, truly amazing. This game is, and I can actually say this, the BEST racing game I've played in my life, period. I was so psyched about this game for so long, and within the time span of 48 hours, I've spent about 25 playing this game, the rest sleeping and stuff. This is the most I've played a game straight since I first got Oblivion. I sucked at the demo, as it was more realistic than Forza 1, and I didn't play it too long, but after playing this game for about 5-10 minutes, everything adjusted perfectly and just felt right, this is one of those must have 360, and defines the racing/online racing genre. The online in this game is absolutely amazing, even though I've only spent about 30 minutes there racing because I was too busy doing other things in the game. But what I did play, i loved it. The people there make it great also and it feels more like a real-life professional racer even more when online. Normally in the game, you would bump into the AI to make a quick pass and hope to wreck them, when in online, you would only make smooth passes and try to not wreck into the other cars, out of courtousy. This is just normal standard online circuit races, I don't know if it's that much different than Forza 1 in that regard, as I never played online much with that one. Other modes include tournaments, auctions, live race feeds from other online games(Forza Motorsport TV), and a few others. The online auction house is really great, i messed around with that a little bit, but not too much though. Also, every time you complete a single player race, your times are posted on a scoreboard for that track/car class. Right now I have $650,000 in my bank, over 30 cars, 4 of them race cars, and have completed 2 endurance races. i am currently at Level 24 in the Career mode. This will be the best racing game until Forza 3, I can almost guarantee it, due to Gran Turismo being fucked over by Sony due to taking out the rumble feature in the controller, so unless GT5 does something great with the motion sensors, then Forza 2 will when the FM/GT batle. Time to go finish the rest of my race.

well, the pawn shop finally had something good! I asked about 3 months prior to last weekend if he had any classic gaming stuff, he replied "like snes and back? no we got rid of all that." And so I thought he'd never have anything like that. Well, i was bored and had ten bucks in my pocket, so me and my friend walked up to the pawn shop to look around, and, when I walked in, he had 2 full rows of nes games, and tons of systems, many overpriced however, some N64 games(more than he usually does) and a bunch of other crap. i picked out a few things, all NES, Genny, N64, etc.(cartridge games) were $2.50 apiece, not the greatest in the world, but pretty good compared to other places, including online. 1.)Tetris-Complete, with manual, box, registration card, poster) 2.)Donkey Kong Classics-Loose 3.)Star Wars Episode 1 Racer(N64)-Loose I'll be going back next weekend to see if he has anything else, and maybe pick up a few more NES games. -
i might try to play it on single player a little bit soon, i don't feel like starting up the 360 now though, as much as i am in the mood to play this game, I need to try and get some sleep for my last day of final exams tomorrow.

any chance of them airing it again soon? I watched the last 15 minutes of 80's Tech, no video games at all, and I've been looking for it to some on again ever since, and damn it! lol I missed this one too because I didn't come on here yesterday! -

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that this guy is hilarious, he is the only reason I really go to ScrewAttack.com and is what made me realize the sight is okay. I don't watch any of the other people, but there was an audio log that i listened to about a bunch of shit today, really informing too, the lawsuit that a company is filing against Sony for Blu-Ray, I really hope that that goes through....kind of, just because then the PS3 will then be affordable. Okay, enough of me babbling on about Sony's lawsuit. Getting back on topic.... The cussing in it doesn't bother me at all, it adds a kind of "home touch" to it lol, as weird as that sounds, he yells and cusses just like I do, just I don't say the phrases he does, I could still picture myself sitting there cussing out the TV because of some damned game. That and I grew up with parents that every other word that came out of there mouth was cussing, literally. I can't wait for the next video to come out, and I didn't know about the DVD, but I will no doubt get that, they should sell it at f.y.e., instead of just online. I really enjoy watching this guy, every video i really find myself busting out laughing at how truly bad these games are. Some funny phrases..... "Bimmy and Jimmy?" --Double Dragon 3(I think, I can't remember) "Argh! I'm the Jaguar, and I'm 64-bit! *SNES replies* You ain't 64-bit, get the fuck outta here!" --Sums up the Jaguars success lol. "I have Blast Processing! *SNES replies* Oh, and what's that? *GEN respones* I..It...It's Blast Processing!" --lol Yeah, the Wii tribute was pretty good, I liked it alot, and I also very much enjoyed the system reviews, over the A5200, SCD, and 32x. Just my opinion about this guy. -
no, not yet, only online with 4 other players.

I have gold again, and wow!, what a difference, and reading my previous post I have a lot of typos... Well, this game is actually good, real good in fact, I beat it on insane mode yesterday, almost breaking the 100,000 point barrier, this is a great 4-player game, just not a great single player game.
