Not true -- Nintendo has not sold any hardware at a loss since the original NES. They really trumpted that fact about both the N64 and the GameCube when they released. Both of those systems were released cheaper than the nearest competition at the time.

Atari did make a lot of Blue Lightning games, but you are correct in stating that they were never officially sold. Blue Lightning in-store demo is another game that I think could be better classified as "Uncirculated."

They certainly are very unusual in that they were used in amusment rides outside stores, but they are Jaguar games nonetheless. Just because you couldn't buy them through normal channels doesn't equate them to something like a "Cruisn' USA" board, in my opinion.

Personally, I think that it equates very much to a Cruisn USA Game board. When that game is in attract mode, it specifically says that it is running on the Nintendo Ultra 64 game system, and these two games do not state that they are made for the Jaguar during their usual play modes.

I think of your lists as the official release lists for any company. Sega has the Dreamcast checklist, and in many ways yours is the Atari Jaguar checklist. Would Atari really have said that those two games were officially released?

Given that someone produced these carts, they run in a normal Jaguar, and several are floating around, I think classifying them as extremely rare is not inaccurate. I don't really think we should make a special category for oddball games that didn't follow the normal distribution channel.

In that case, would my Alien Vs. Predator pre-release demo be a "regular" release? It was produced by Atari and a few of them were circulated amongst people who were interested in programming for the system to show off it's strengths. I believe that I have the only known one right now, but there is a good possibility that another one or two could show up.

It is important that the game notes detail where these two games came from and that you couldn't just walk into Toys 'R' Us and buy them (Skycopter doesn't have any notes right now and the Speedster II notes need to be rewritten).

Might I suggest making a seperate category for games such as this then. They really don't fall in the category of being a regular game, but to the same extent I agree that they shouldn't be classified as prototypes. Perhaps "Uncirculated" would be a better term?

  4. Interesting

R3K was the name of the game that Team 13 began for Dark Kight Games. After the two companies parted on bad terms in early 1999, the R3K project was dropped. The only pieces of the game that still exist is a computer version that was done in Visual Basic so that the development team could learn what it wanted to do before putting it into a smaller console.

I know all this since the GOAT Store is made up of the previous Team 13 members There is no true "prototype" for R3K, although if people are interested perhaps we could put the game on the GOAT Store for people to check out.

  5. I want to once again bring up the issue of the two Jaguar games that are ranked 9 that I don't believe should be ranked as such. The first is Speedster II and the second is Skycoptor.

Since these games were never produced and released where a person could purchase them over a counter, I feel that they should be ranked as prototype games, if anything.

To draw a comparison, would a N64 collection be complete without a Cruisn' USA game board. The game states that it is running on the Ultra 64 chipset...

    Anyone agree? Disagree?

  6. All auctions close tomorrow!

Also, the Web site *should* be working, but the hosting company likes to shut us down every so often without warning so that they can update their systems. Last time they did so, our order system freaked out and wouldn't let anyone order.

    Rather annoying...

  7. Hey everyone,

Earlier today, the GOAT Store put up table prices for people attending the event, in case you want to show anything off. There are a limited amount of these tables (there will be smaller plots available on the event day for free!), but if you want to show off anything cool, you might want to get a table right away! They are only $16.00, and include admission to the event (which is $8.00).

There are also dealer tables now available.

The link for tables is here.

As for tickets, those are also now on sale, and if you purchase them in advance, you will get $2.00 off the price of admission.

The link for tickets is here.

Over the next week, we're hoping to have a bunch of news about some of the great things that you can see and do while you're at the event. All that is confirmed so far is that there will be lots of pinball, classic computers and classic video game things to do!

  8. Uhhhh...

Well, I've got a guess. I used to play Theme Park all of the time, but ever since Roller Coaster Tycoon came around, I just haven't been as fascinated by Theme Park.

If I remember, if you do not have enough security forces, thugs can get into your park and beat up the help. They randomly appear, and you need to make a larger security force to deal with the rowdy kids.

Unfortunately, immediately after something like this happens, the market becomes depressed for a while until the safety level is back. Just like anything...

If I were you, I would wait until at least late June to start auctioning off your items, because right now the Atari 2600 eBay market is definitely depressed. And for those of us that trust it, it is time to go get some great eBay deals!

Also, he knows that we have identified the BIN as part of his MO and is simply adding some variety here by setting a reserve. I could be wrong and will apologize if I am. I don't think we should jump at every Quadrun auction either, but this is WAY too coincidental for me to buy.

I've been watching this thread but I haven't commented because I really haven't had anything to say until now -- Is it a coincidence that the wording on this auction is nearly the EXACT SAME as the bug90 et el's auctions?

I really hope it isn't, as I really enjoy eBay for what I can, but the fact is eBay doesn't police themselves very well (anyone tried to buy a Dreamcast game recently and noticed the hundreds of pirate game auctions are up there?)

I agree with this statement for the most part. Every so often I'll bust out SMB1 just to beat it the whole way through on one life. My fiancee really likes that game, but we never play it together anymore after I beat the whole game on one life (using warps) before she played. Now it's just Tengen Tetris for us

On another note, I'm surprised that no one has named Donkey Kong or Donkey Kong Jr. as their favorite Mario games.

I think it has the same problem. My original Super Mario Brothers Game and Watch was taken away by my teacher and then she lost it, so I never got it back (I had broke it pretty bad by this point anyways), but I got one of the rereleases and I can't beat certain levels because I find the same delay happens.

I used to be able to get really far in this game too

  13. I have to go with Defender 2000, followed very closely by Battlesphere. While I love Tempest 2000, I find myself popping in the soundtrack to Defender 2000 a lot more while driving or doing whatever.

    Same with Battlesphere.

  14. ROB's aren't horribly rare, but they aren't horribly common either. Basically, the whole issue is that they don't do anything much. They do move around, but not anything exciting.

Personally, I have two of them. One of mine has the whole Gyromite setup in functional condition, but I have no clue if ROB himself works (I didn't even know I was getting him in the auction!) I won him in the infancy days of eBay for about $12.00. My other one I picked up when the Nintendo was dieing for $15.00 and he works perfectly, as far as I can tell. Never tried him with a game, even though I have both of them.

The coolest feature about ROB is that he looks darn neat. I had my two with me at Jagfest 2K1 last year in the GOAT Store's display, and people always commented about how they were watching them.

One person noted that it looked like the "evil empire was taking over... with really cute robots."

While I don't usually claim to be very good at many video games, I can sit down with Super Mario 3 and go through the whole game level by level in a few hours. I did it once and timed myself to see how long I could do it in, and it was under five hours

On the SNES, SMB3 was enhanced with a save function, but the game felt a little different on the SNES.  Even then, the save function wasn't as it should have been...I believe it only let you save the last world you completed, so there was a good deal of repetition involved.

While I have Super Mario All*Stars and I love it, I agree that the feel just wasn't there. If we are going by the best Mario game though, Super Mario All*Stars would be it for me, as the "real" Super Mario Brothers 2 is incredibly fun! Am I the only one who has been crazy to beat it level by level the whole way through yet?

    quote
I think the best feature of SMB3 that was so under utilized was that Karuba's Bouncine Boot thing that you could slip into and stomp enemies with.  Sadly, it appeared in only one level(!!!) and was such a cool enhancement they should have utilized it more in that and future games.  Guess Yoshi kinda took it's place in SMB4 as he functionally did the same thing minus the tongue attack.

Yes! And I personally did not like Yoshi at all. In fact, I was horribly disappointed with Mario World after having played Mario 3 for hours and hours. I wish that Nintendo would release a game for the computer that would be just like Mario 3, except that it would also include a level builder. Think about the fun that a person could have with that!

Thanks for the kind words. I would also have to suggest the GOAT Store

How do you like Iron Soldier?

  17. I just thought about this...

I'm looking to sell some of my personal Saturn collection, if you (or anyone else) is interested. I have:

    ST-Key 1MB-4MB RAM Cart

Some blueish RAM cart that I don't know what it does

    Dracula X (import)

Marvel Super Hereos Vs. Street Fighter (import)

If anyone is interested, email me at [email protected] and give me an offer, and maybe we can work something out
